sitka0230--You're the one jumping up and down making Bess the issue, not me. Yes, according to this article, Bess asserts that Palin targeted his book. As I have stated over and over, that is not the real issue.
I responded to you because you twice directly mentioned my name or posts in this thread, linking me to something I neither said nor advocated.
My point was clear, and you've affirmed it with the above, so is the future, don't link my with statements I haven't made.
Barack Obama has a 20-year on-going close friendship with Bill Ayers, an unrepentant terrorist who wants to make America into a marxist gulag, but Howard Bess is not afraid of that. No--he is afraid of Sarah Palin, who holds strong convictions that homosexuality is immoral behavior.
What is wrong with this type of thinking? It's idiotic nonsense, that's what's wrong with it.
It's the same kind of wrong thinking that would reach the conclusion, as Mr. Bess did in his book, that today's homosexuals are minister/healers in the mold of Jesus Christ--idiotic nonsense.
But according to Howard Bess, it is Sarah Palin we should fear, because she tried to warn her fellow Alaskans about his book.
David Talbot went digging for dirt on Sarah Palin, and he found some. But mostly he just got himself--and Howard Bess--dirty.
As someone who grew up in the Assemblies of God (but now belong to a UCC church, I am fluent in both religious languages spoken in this campaign. Please understand that there are MILLIONS of Americans that find the positions Ms. Palin takes on the "End Times" completely sane. What's more, and this is critical, those who hold these positions are taught that the ridicule they suffer on account of them only proves that they are true. Sarah Palin may be a fraud, but for the time being, there are millions who see her "religous persecution" as proof that she is God's Chosen Candidate. Those of us who would like to see Barack Obama elected must stop this line of attack.
That said, there is one thing that jumps out at me.
What documentation is there that Sarah Palin was directly involved in trying to force the local hospital to stop offering abortion for those who made that choice? Sarah Palin wanted to force women to fly to Seattle for an Abortion. Say that out loud. Sarah Palin wanted to ensure that all women who were considering an abortion were offered counseling in regards to the option of Adoption. No, that's not it. Sarah Palin wanted to ban Partial Birth Abortion. No, that's not it either, although a reliably true statement. Seriously, I want to see this commercial! If it's true, and can be documented, then the news must be spread. Sarah Palin tried to eliminate the option of choice for all Alaskan Women. Oh, and a picture of her with a sign would be even better.
Xanthro--almost every post from you in this letter section is a not-so tacit defense of Palin's actions.
For instance, you keep going on and on about how zero books were actually banned (even though Palin asked the librarian on at least three occasion her response to banning books). You question whether Emmon's (the librarian) firing was related to the book banning question and go as far as to dismiss the action since she was reinstated after an outcry from the citizenry.
My whole point in my initial thread was that there are people offering half-ass defenses of Palin's actions. You are certainly, without a doubt, among that group.
In the end, the question is not whether Palin actually succeeded in banning books, rather whether there was an effort to ban books. The evidence overwhelmingly points to the fact that she did have a desire to push the issue. What is even worse, it appears as if she was willing to destroy people's careers that stood in her way.
That is far too dictatorial for my liking.
Genius suggestion - Palin is a closet liberal! Here's my contribution:
Palin Is Poster Girl for Big Government Spending
"In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation."

I am afraid by the end of this campaign, Sarah Palin will be nailed to her cross, with a crown of thorns on her head. And she will get millions of votes because of it. Painting her as a religious extremist, as others have mentioned, is only going to make her more popular to the evangelicals. I grew up in Alabama, and now live in Massachusetts. For people who live in a liberal environment, it is totally incomprehensible that creationism, rapture etc. can play to the sensibilities of a majority. I can tell you without hesitation that the vast majority of my former acquaintances in Alabama will be voting for Palin, I mean McCain. No, I do actually mean Palin. John McCain- way to make a Faustian Bargain.
Below is a link to the issues agenda heavily supported by religious activists. If you weld it to fiscal conservatism do you get an extremely energized base?
Are these the issues holding back our economy, keeping us from victory in Iraq, fueling our our diminished standing in the world?

Has anyone noticed that today amazon.com is asking an incredible $500.00 for a copy of Bess' book, "Pastor I Am Gay"? Visit their bookstore and enter "Howard Bess" into their search box.

The country needs to wake up and realize that it would be a witch hunt if these two people got in office. Aside from the fact that under George Bush our country has lost respect, thousands of lives in a war based on lies, and now has chosen a woman who is a "good old boy" proclaiming to be a Christian who loves people. Well, if she cares about people she will let people live and not do so called book burnings in libraries. To see her bent over a bloody dead carabaou which she has just killed, and to hear that she flies over wolves and shoots them....she has no compassion for animals, the polar bears, etc. What makes us think she has compassion for human beings? Wise up, America. It's time for real change with Obama. Look at Wall St. today. Companies which have been in business on Wall St. for a century falling into bankruptcy. What part of George Bush would you like to keep in 2009? There are very important issues here that need to be addressed, i.e. domestic partnerships...not just gays, senior citizens who cannot be married because they will lose their benefits from a deceased spouse, women's rights which have been fought for long and hard and have made many strides over the past decades...
Let's keep religion where it belongs, in church. I am speaking as a Christian but I am not looking at a narrow gate to heaven, but a much wider one which allows all types of people, all colors of the rainbow.
You guys out there who just look at that pretty Eskimo face and there's nothing wrong with that, think again...a wolf in sheep's clothing. Don't drink the kool aid.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
