  • what a maroon!

He shows the warped fundamentalist mindset, or, "worldview," in his native fundamentalist patois.

    -- timbuktom

Poor timbuktom. So sheltered is his existence that he thinks the word "worldview" is merely the province of "native fundamentalists."

If he really knew what he was talking about, he'd know the concept goes back nearly a century, to the German cognitive philosophers.

Ignorance: it's a terrible thing to display -- especially in public.

  • @oneofeach4me

The real issue is when you want to ENFORCE them on others. I DO NOT want someone, man or woman, in the White House fighting about issues we as a nation have already overcome. We need to fix more urgent matters.

Which is oneofeach4me's attempt to enforce her view of what is important on the rest of us.

First, there is no such thing as a neutral position, even though you, blinded to your own presuppositions, seem to think so.

Second, we as a nation have not overcome the issue of abortion. The fact that it is still being debated today shows your assertion is not true.

And what could be more urgent than stopping the slaughter of the utterly defenseless for any reason or no reason?

  • @ T Suarez

I am not ENFORCING my view on you... I am not in a position of power to where that is even possible. Even if I was, it should not be up to me or YOU to choose what a woman can do with her body. I am not going to get into an Abortion debate with you on this forum. However, send me an invite to any thing topic related to it, and I'll gladly lend my insight. And sure, the fight still rages on, but the woman's right to choice still trumps the "defenseless" argument.

Middle of the road does exist, just not to you. Now I know why, it's because your damn eyes are closed.

  • The "Santayana Syndrome"--We've Heard All This Before

Most of us are familiar with the famous quote from the philosopher George Santayana, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it". The key word there is "condemned".

Sarah Palin is apparently another devout follower of "triumphalist" Christianity,as opposed to the far more progressive "penitent" Christianity so often associated with the actual life and pastoral teachings of Jesus. Triumphalists seem to be trapped in Manichean absolutes of Good vs. Evil, see the world as Black and White, with no Grays allowed, portray Christ as a God who helps football players score touchdowns, poor people get super-rich, one nation kick the crap out of another nation, and keeps homosexuals in the closet for life, or risk humiliation, stoning or worse. Their Christ seems to love global corporations, gas-guzzling SUV's, rampant American materialism and mindless consumption ("The American Way of Life"), endless billions of taxpayer treasure spent on obsolete weapons systems, but NOT on body armor or "hardened" Humvees, and the immoral conundrum of ending abortions and executing criminals, "pro-life" and "pro-death"...a twofer. They're gung ho for The Rapture, which will take place in Israel, where all of us demon Jews who don't get saved in time will go down to the fires of Hell while they, the true chosen ones, will float up to Heaven. THIS is what Sarah Palin and her ilk believe in. "Jerry Falwell in a dress" is a great image, and she has the added power of not looking remotely like Falwell.

We've seen, heard and read about this all before, deconstructed ad infinitum during the Bush administration, especially around the time he banned stem cell research and during the Terry Schiavo ordeal. Here it is AGAIN! McCain is either the ultimate bone-headed fool in this farce, because he didn't take the time to vet this woman and fully understand her extreme regressivism, or he's the ultimate cynic, because he did in fact know what he was getting, and he went and got it anway, and sold it to the electorate as a "brilliant choice"!

Despite a mountain of previous reporting and disclosure on the virulent tendencies and extremism of Christian triumphalism, despite Bush pledging allegiance to this worldview for 8 years, despite his disastrous record underscoring his historic unpopularity, despite McCain's documented status as his political buttboy, despite all this, a significant segment of the electorate is going "gaga" over Falwell-In-A-Dress, a female candidate who believes abortion should be prohibited even after rape or incest! "White women" are up 13% for McCain. Who, in God's name, are these white women? God only knows, and we are all condemned.

  • Publicity hiding the text

Why is there a publicity hiding the texte I am trying to read. How can I put it away ?

Thak you and excuse my english

  • @Xanthro

You are joking, correct? The linked You Tube video includes an interview of Bess. However, it also includes interviews of several other individuals, clips from local newspaper, etc. for it sources. No where in the clip does it "affirm that the source is Bess." In fact, the video is primarily about the firing of Emmons, not Bess' book being targeted.

What is absurd is this tacit defense of these actions. The facts are facts: Palin asked the librarian on three occasions about banning books and then fired the librarian for not being sufficiently loyal to her.

That, in itself, is terrifying and completely indefensible.

  • Better way to combat Sarah

Show that she really is a liberal! We have been trying to discredit her by showing what a right-wing fundamentalist she is. But... we would get further if we found liberal things in her record, or if we just spun the stories differently.

For example, maybe, we could say that Sarah caved in to a liberal ACLU librarian, and allowed dangerous homosexual books on the library shelves. Or, we can point out that she TRIPLED the taxes on Alaskan oil companies. Oh the humanity!

Has she ever done anything at all to repeal Alaska's liberal pro-choice abortion laws?!

There more than one way to skin a pit bull.

  • @suarez

"what could be more urgent than stopping the slaughter of the utterly defenseless for any reason or no reason?"

Stopping the cancerous spread of you fundamentalists, so protective of embryos, so cavalier with the lives of grown humans.

    THAT is far more urgent.
