I would suggest moving. God, that sounds so harsh.
I'm in a pretty white town. As in, less than 1% minority. I've had to use sports, music, etc to find my community. I understand about the singing. I can't listen to American Idol at all because those people go out of tune all of the time.
Small towns along the western Texas-Louisiana border are notorious as harsh, and that's not even racial. Far worse than where I grew up. I've heard the term "mean" a lot about the western border area. People still warn blacks not to stop in Orange County (Vidor) on I-10 between the Louisiana State line and Houston. That means fill up at Beaumont. It's a long drive, but the advice is good.
I feel for you. But what interests would work for you? When I was in Slidell I sewed. It's amazing how people race mix at the fabric store. I have helped quilt, although I never say that I can quilt.
We Catholics are strange, but there's so few of us there that our churches are often integrated. If you were in Dallas I'd say try TD Jake's church. It's interracial (although majority black) and the music's good. He's a good preacher.
It's ironic that we are in small towns, but the small towns are so different.
I know you are of good faith. I want so much to help you with this.
I wish this forum was less troll infested and misunderstanding prone. We all should be helping each other, not engaging the fools who like to set fires and watch things burn. The trolls make that so vry hard. They like to set us against each other.
look domini, we TRIEd to stop you from this ticket to suicide.
we spelled out why it was a bad idea, how he could never win electorally. He lost EVERY big electoral state but Illinois to Mrs.Clinton and every impt constituency.
We explained how Rove couldn't touch Hillary's unfavorability ratings further whereas Obama's were an easy target, you were well aware of Obama's empty resume, failure to show up to the job and ball and chain associations.
Now that he's sinking faster than Bush at a beer party and even the worst zealots can no longer be in denial, I just don't want to hold hands and make nice and sink with you. AKA smith might, but I don't.
There was just no Goddamn reason for the Dems to get defeated this election. It took a stubborn ostrichian determination of the lefty-lefts.
That's all.

Please. It's far far safer for blacks to fill up in Vidor anytime than it is for whites to stop in Port Charles and near all of SW Houston.
However, I'm sure that won't deter you.
Obama will lose this presidential race because he is black and that is horrible for struggling working class families. However, if he had picked Hillary Clinton as Vice President the womens' vote that Hillary would have brought to the ticket would have put him over the top.
I thought all the troll hunters had given you the boot.
I'm sure AKAOldmaid would agree with that very simplistic notion, however society's social interactions are as complex and ever changing as the moving currents of the deepest ocean. Hold on fast to your philosophy of futility, it will not enlighten you very much, nor increase your sense of clearsightedness or humility.
SS Obama gets rejected (resoundingly) by the American people
could SS Klyteey be using taxpayer funded equipment for his trolling...

There's not a fabric store in town. Can you believe it? Used to, every town had a fabric store, but now so many people just order on the internet. (Actually, I already have a fabric collection). It is getting to be perfect sewing weather.
Yes I sew, but I don't quilt. I could piece but the quilting ladies here are the coldest bunch whom I have ever met. They are almost all of the most conservative (need I say white) Church of Christ church in town.
It's ironic that we are in small towns, but the small towns are so different.
It's sad what has happened to some small towns. It seems like sometimes the bad has driven out the good. Harsh times for small towns. I blame Wal-Mart and other big box stores.

Yes, I know what you mean about the trolls -- of both sides. At least cynthera seems to be gone.
I am trying to get past some of my anger about the primary, but then there are so many who seem to have some sort of emotional investment in division.
At the beginning of the primary season there was so much optimism.
Well, I was wrong to imply that Obama would lose. I don't know. No one knows one way or another. I am reading a booked called The Science of Fear about how we let our fears get the best of us and are manipulated by the the media and advertising into fear. It gives a wonderful example of one-off predictions by well-known pundits pitted against a chimp. Guess who did better? Yes, the chimp. Choosing among random flashcards the chimp predicted outcomes 58% of the time. The pundits predicted outcomes only about 50% of the time.
So if these experts fail so often, who are we to put our pundit hats on and assume we know?
Anything could happen. After all, who could have predicted Sarah Palin?
I am thinking about scrapbooking. There is a scrapbook club here. I asked at the library but they have no information about book clubs. Even my sister-in-law in Wyoming who lives in a much smaller town has a book club.
(My daughter lives in Dallas, which is why I moved back to Texas. But I can't stand big cities and she can't stand small towns. I am just an old country woman I guess. I actually wish I had some chickens so I could have fresh eggs.)
Maybe when the election is over, I will check out the local Democratic Party -- although I have heard that they are quite "conservative." I worked for Kerry in 2004 and discovered that I hated phone banking with a passion.
I am just getting sick of politics now. Doesn't seem like it has gone on forever?
