"whether America is ready to elect a black man for president remains a vexing question for his supporters"
Senator Obama is not qualified and does not have the experience to be President, but you keep trying to make it about race. You keep also neglecting that the man is half white. The facts are Hillary or other Dem. candidates should have gotten the nomination but did not, which shows that American were willing to vote for Obama simply because they wanted a black man for President.
It's also unfair and misleading to think the republicans and independents who tend to be much more conservative or moderate would just change their views to vote for Senator Obama.
Stop using the RACE CARD!!! It is actually hurting Sen. Obama's chances!!!

The day I see Republicans promising to dismantle Social Security and Medicare is when I'll beleive anything they any sincerity about holding the group against socialism.
Moreover, when it's an individual it's socialism. When it's a corporate, it's a necessary bailout.
Phoney-ass'd Republicans are transparent...gimme mine, and gimme yours and pay me for giving me yours for the trouble it took me to take it from you.
Sarah Palin, an Armageddon and Rupture driven fundamentalist and extremist who as VP would have great odds of becoming President if McCain is elected, due to McCain's age and melanoma issues, said something that should chill the blood of every person on this planet, including small town America. She said that Georgia should join NATO, so next time it's involved in a military conflict with Russia, the US will be forced to attack Russia.
I wonder if small town America is aware that Russia isn't Iraq. It has a huge military and nearly 30,000 nuclear weapons, many of whom still targeted at US cities. How exactly would a conventional or nuclear confrontation with Russia improve the lives of rural, small town Americans and who will the burden of such a catastrophe fall on?

sorry...posting without previewing :)
Whites were polled in California when LA Mayor Tom Bradley ran for governor and they responded overwhelmingly positive for him. When the moment of truth came he lost in a landslide. That's a message that pollsters still must take into account. Most "cling to guns and religion" folks that I talk to insist that they would vote for "a Colin Powell" type black
and my guess is that he could have won in '96. Wealth is not the determining factor in identifing an "Elite". No one in "Fly Over America" would consider billionaire T Boone Pickens to be an elite. A down-home regular guy from a family of 13. Go back to the beginning of our history. Alexander Hamilton was an elite who was despised -- and he never knew his father-- because of attitude, not wealth. George Washington an elite who hung with regular people was loved. Obama qualifies as an elite because of attitude and regular folks pick up on that simple truth. His "citizen of the world" and condesending remarks re middle America caught on tape are there in the collective mind and he will pay the price on Nov 4th!
Then we'll finally have a black president.
Blacks and women are ok with us idiots as long as they're plenty dumb so everyone can relate to them.
Idiocracy is at hand.
This is 2008. Is anyone really surprised by this?
Great quote: "Obama, he's not our kind of people," said Middleton in a gruff, bitten-off speaking style, taking a break from canning green beans at the couple's double-wide mobile home. "He don't believe in the hereafter, and the Lord, the way I look at it ... he's Muslim."
What sort of leadership does a person who 'thinks' like that deserve? Why should anyone be surprised that the product of that sort of thinking is the administration that we have now? America has another opportunity to elect a president who graduated at the bottom of his class. Maybe that does reflect our collective values, What I know for certain is, if that sort of 'thinking' determines America's future, we don't have one.
The Republicans should be worried about how they are going to win over urban voters. I'm sick and tired of hearing about how small towns define America. Maybe that is the unfortunate political reality, given the inequities of the electoral college, but that still doesn't change the fact that the majority of Americans live in cities or in the sprawl around them. What makes New York City less American than Wasilla Alaska? Or Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Cincinnati... The question should be - how are Republicans going to win over the vast majority of Americans? How is a creationist, anti-abortion, book-banning, loyalty-letter-gathering person who doesn't have a clue about Bush's pre-emptive war policies going to speak to the rest of us Americans? We don't learn everything we know about politics and science from the local mega-church. We primarily graduate high school and go to college and work white-collar jobs. We actually have neighbors who are very different from us, and have to work with people who are very different from us, and we actually have to live with and get along with them. We pay the lion's share of taxes, and get the lamb's share returned to us. If it wasn't for us urban "elitists", the country wouldn't have enough money for Republicans to do their war-mongering.
