Robert Duval made a great movie called "The Apostle." That. IMHO. records the tone of such churches. If Palin is like most of that ilk, --and I am an RC-- I think I know and appreciate her all the more.
Sarah Palin is very frightening!
Some thoughts from some other "wise men":
Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived. (Issac Asimov)
Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful. (Seneca the Younger 4BC-65AD)
Do not pray in my school, and I will not think in your church. (Unknown)
Men never commit evil so fully and joyfully as when they do it for religious convictions. (Blaise Pascal)
There once was a time when all people believed in God and the church ruled. This time was called the Dark Ages. (Richard Lederer)
You can not convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it is based on a deep-seated need to believe. (Carl Sagan)
Religion does three things quite effectively: Divides people, Controls people, Deludes people. (Alice McKinney)
Those who believe absurdities will commit absurdities. (Voltaire)
I have examined all the known superstitions of the world, and I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology. (Thomas Jefferson)
AMERICA WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!
It is time to "take back" our country from these "Corporate Loving Religious Fanatics"!
AMERICA WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!
In the "Christian Spectrum" her church is Center-Right. We cannot call her a dominionist yet. She has not said or done anything dominionist, and that is a vague term anyway. She has not said anything hateful so far, e.g. against Gays.
So far, if I must summarize, she seems unwilling to throw the first stone, because she knows she herself is not without sin. So far, we see no tendency to try to yank the sawdust from our eyes, because she knows she has her own optical two-by-four. Why do you think she wears those huge glasses?
Wait and hear what she says. None of this general, theoretical stuff is sticking.
THE HUSTLER
Sarah Palin has made religion one of her talking points. Baptized a Catholic, she later converted to an Evangelical Church. Some reports say she chose a non-denominational faith, others report that she joined a place of worship that was Pentecostal in belief.
It was from this Pentecostal pulpit that she preached her mantra that it was God's will that a gas pipe line be built in Alaska. Sarah also used this platform to push for the banning of books that she deemed undesirable and it was from here that she trashed the 1st amendment that denies official support to any particular theology. She also used this method for her pro-life stance that would force any woman who was a victim of rape or incest to suffer the consequences. Sarah is no woman's friend.
Palin's beliefs also include "talking in tongues", a "religious" gibberish practiced by members of her church, which no one, not even the one doing the talking can understand. I assume she is talking in tongues when she appears in front of cheering crowds who seem enthralled with this mother of five, and an on the job trainee for vice president of the United States, who cannot distinguish a lie from the truth ...I wonder if they know what she is really saying? I wonder if she does.
Palin's fundamentalist faith is comparable to the religion of other devout believers who are known to engage in the handling of poisonous snakes to prove their devotion to their God..yes, .the same God who wants that gas pipeline in Alaska and urges His followers, according to the Gospel by Palin, to trash the 1st amendment and to ban "objectionable" books.
The gibberish, "tongues" and the use of snakes in worship supposedly emerge as a true test of the righteousness of the participants. In this case, Palin, by associating with John McCain is submitting herself to the ultimate test.
Sarah Palin, along with McCain, who to date has never even been baptized, even although he proclaims himself to be a "Christian," are in their element embracing this particular faith. They both talk gibberish and they both seem very comfortable in the company of poisonous snakes in the person of the GOP's Karl Rove, the man who brought us elections 2000-2008 and has been hired to help this "made for each other" pair of candidates.
It is only fitting that McCain , the professional POW, describes Palin as his "soul-mate."
I have nothing against the Pentecostal Church. I do believe the members of this faith should leave my choice of literature to me and stay out of my private and political life.
As for the snakes? Where the hell is St. Patrick when you need him?
"[pray] that our leaders, that our national leaders, are sending [soldiers] out on a task that is from God." She [Gov. Palin] added: "That's what we have to make sure that we are praying for -- that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan."
...
But as her testimony at the Wasilla Assembly of God demonstrates, she is motivated by the idea that godly forces are locked in spiritual warfare with satanic forces.
The testimony is quoted above, and it in no way theologically or rhetorically supports your conclusion. In fact, the kindest method to describe your statement is as a gross distortion of fact. Otherwise known as lying.
It's clear that what Palin is saying is that we need to pray that we are on the correct course, that God would approve of the plan, not that God DOES approve of the plan.
It's subjunctive mood, which while many may not understand the linguist term, they understand the meaning. It indicates a command, hypothesis, purpose, doubt, or supposition. You don't say, "I wish I was President" because you are not President, proper English says, "I wish I were President." That's subjunctive mood.

It's obvious that Palin is saying we need to pray that we are on the correct path, and not stating that God states we are on the correct path.
