  • Everybody believes the end is near.

Do you realize how silly this is? Right now some of the smartest people on Planet Earth are testing a scientific device, in Switzerland, that a few think might turn Earth into a black hole. Are they crazy? When they first tested the Atomic Bomb some were afraid that it might trigger an uncontroled chain reaction and destroy the earth. Both of those scenarios were /are held by the smartest people on earth. The "end of times" is involved in both theories. Quite frankly it doesn't matter what you believe as long as your belief system is not forced on others. Those that are so concerned with this Palin religious crap ought to hurry out and get a life before that black hole theory proves true. Think on the bright side if that happens we wont have an election so everything will be peachy keen.

  • Assemblies manifesto

Today in our American culture, many people have turned their adoration from the Creator to the creation. They have gone to the extreme and are now worshiping the earth...

This is a little wacko, is it not? There is a huge difference between trying to minimize pollution/preserve species and actually worshiping Mother Earth.

  • This article is intolerant

One's religion or lack there of should not be a litmus test for vice president. This is slanderous (yet another example) against the governor of Alaska. Obama was not criticized for being a Christian. He was criticized for staying in a church for 20 years under Rev. Wright. Rev. Wright was a controversial figure b/c of his radical views about white people and America. The more you and your ilk smear Palin, the more popular she will be. Maybe you should think about that.

  • Another right-wing whacko who's involved with AoG

    John Ashcroft.

You're entitled to believe whatever you like. You're not entitled to my respect if you choose to be an idiot and swallow lies fed you by religious whackjobs. And no, I don't just mean the Pentacostals.

  • Her Church

Re: I've had the thought many times that Jesus and the whole gang of followers was gay. An all male group, the single female "fag hag," MAry, always serving, never at the dance, doing the laundry, etc. etc. And he started a movement that feeds into repressing every sexual activity not approved by men. The Catholic Church barely tolerates of women, God only knows how Jewish women can live with shaved heads and all the rigamarole of that faith. And on and on with all the various snide attitudes when women get "uppity." Palin is a product of two of these churches. God help us if she and the prospective vice dude get in office.

  • Extreme Religion

Would you say her church is more or less extreme than the one Obama attended for 20 years?

  • Reason or supersition; you choose

I have known many Pentecostals over the years and some of them have been fine outstanding people who would literally take the shirts off their backs to help you. But supporting someone like Sarah Palin isn’t about backing kind and generous leaders. This is about putting a candidate in office that has the intellectual judgment to be able to handle an international crisis without being biased by a book that is a 2000 year old political tract written by ignorant, power hungry desert tribes. Being enamored by the trite bromides provided in the Bible is one thing but taking this book as the literal word of god and being willing to help shape history by being an accomplice to ushering in these silly and childish so called ‘prophecies’ is something else completely.

Screw the controversy over wolf killing (a particularly sensitive issue with me), her so called feminism or all the other crap that is coming out over her nomination as the Republican VP. There is only one thing that really matters here and that is Palin’s medieval worldview. There is no way to genuinely believe in this kind of trash and then not end up use policy as a means to help bring this ‘end time’ malarkey to fruition.

If American’s keep putting these evangelicals in office with their puerile vision of the ‘rapture’ and the ‘tribulation’ we will end up with an apocalypse that will make the bible’s look like a picnic. And it will have nothing to do with fulfilling biblical prophesy; just our own stupidity and a just reward for siding with ignorance and superstition over reason and intelligence.

  • pointless

This article attacking Palin's faith is pointless. The majority of the left-wing fringe hates religion anyway, but you've somehow given a pass to Obama's black liberation theology where they preach anti-Americanism and racism against the white man. The AOG may believe in creationism and the rapture and may even speak in tongues. Who cares? Is that any worse than people fainting in black churches because God has spoken to them? Not really. Obama's campaign just wants some paypack for the whole Wright controversy earlier this year and figured Palin is a good target. Big big mistake, Barry. All it will do is bring your spiritual mentor back to the forefront of this campaign. Remember the last time this happened? Hillary started winning primaries! The earmark smear also will not work since you were guilty of it for the first 3 years of your tenure in the Senate. Oh, and stay away from the experience BS as well. That one definitely isn't your strong suit.

I know, I know, the Obama campaign says they have not officially sent 30 lawyers up to Alaska to dig up dirt on Palin. Sure and you didn't really mean the Republican party was going to us your race against you when you said you didn't look like all the other President's on our currency either. Let's see you live up to your own statements yesterday of focusing this campaign on the issues. I doubt you'll do it though because you're just a man-child the Democratic party regrets nominating now for POTUS. Should've chose Hillary, morons!

  • Unsurprising beliefs - disturbing ramifications

While the beliefs and rituals of the Pentecostals don't surprise me - I've experienced snake handling as a means of Christian worship, and devoted countless hours to studying religiosity in America - what concerns me is the way in which her beliefs seemingly influence her political drive and worldview. And that makes her:

    1) A crusader.

She sees the conflict in Iraq as divine. Yet it was started on false premises by men who created the evidence out of whole cloth. So in some ways that makes Pres. Bush a messenger of God - which isn't a leap of logic if you've ever spent time in a charismatic/evangelical congregation in the past 7 years - rather than a fallible sinner like the rest of us.

    2) A hypocrit.

She has zero problem with lying about her accomplishments because she has been "prayed over" and delivered to the moment by divine intervention. Whatever she says or does, therefore, is right in the eyes of God. Heaven help anyone who disagrees with this, or happens to attempt the same.

    3) A theological scholar.

She speaks of "growing up" in the Wasilla church - and this is important - even though she's been a member only since 2002. She may believe in her "rebirth" in the faith as a true second birthday. (Yes, there are people who celebrate the day of their baptism as a birthday.) So as a 6 or 7 year old, she seems to believe that she is fully in tune with God's will and Scripture as to pronounce what is wrong and right from a moral or ethical standard (for others anyway). Even if it might be on questions that have caused theological debate since the days of Martin Luther taking a hammer in hand.

    4) Unquestionable.

Every question that is nuanced or difficult could receive an answer that is delivered from an it's-God's-will point of view. So she'll fight like mad to protect gun-owner rights from the 2nd Amendment (whatever "well regulated" means), but she'll completely ignore the 1st Amendment ... just as the current POTUS and VPOTUS do. Because to someone with such limited intellectual curiosity as to not question any word or syllable in the Bible as to whether it might be poetic license (6 days to create the universe? really?) it would seem right and just that no one should have the freedom to question the actions of someone so divinely inspired.

    Zealots don't frighten me.

    Zealots with power do.
