"The difference is that Salon's attacks are based on the truth, whereas Hannity's are based on lies."

What a perfect rationalization. Sublime, truly sublime. The Germans had nothing on you.

You do realize, don't you, that the opposite can be argued just as persuasively... I hope, for the sake of those whose lives you may have influence over, that you recognise the juvenile sophistry you are engaging in.

  • Nuclear Weapons

The US has over 10,000 nukes, and hundreds of those are of the enormous variety, each enough to take out whole states. Together, enough to exterminate life on Earth, cockroaches included. But that's nothing.

Nothing in that paragraph is true, except the part about the US has over 10,000 nuclear weapons. It has over 30,000. None that are operational would be considered huge, much less enormous, because anything over a megaton is inefficient. No nuclear weapon ever devised could take out even the smallest state. The largest weapons ever made would have couldn't even take out a medium sized city.

You vastly overrate the effectiveness of nuclear weapons.

The Russians went apeshit making plutonium in the 1960's, so much it would take centuries to put it all into bombs, so they just stockpiled it, very, very cautiously. Enough to take the Earth's crust down to the mantle. The production waste alone was enough to create an accidental nuclear detonation in the Urals years ago, and they were being careful. Very messy. Tschernobyl was nothing in comparison.

No, in fact, both US and Russian space agencies are currently suffering from an acute shortage of plutonium. Russia has almost all the remaining stockpile, measured in a few kilograms, and that stock pile will be depleted in a few years.

There was no accidental nuclear detonation, which is quite frankly something that can't happen by accident. Creating a sustained critical chain reaction is an exceedingly complicated process.

You can have a run away chain reaction that creates a large amount of heat and may even release radiation, but to call that a nuclear detonation is like calling a drop of water the Pacific Ocean.

Since there is no way at all to get rid even a small amount of it, it is only a matter of time. I've been hoping for those colonies on Mars they've been promising so I can get off this rock.

Only a matter of time till what?

  • @RobbySh

By "RC" I am assuming that you are Roman Catholic, although I have not heard that term used in the US lately. I am Catholic as well. I'm glad that all these Catholics are SO accepting of Evangelical Christian chuches - and Sarah Palin - because the feeling is NOT always mutual! One recent story - my child had to learn a certain prayer with which I was unfamilair for religious ed class. She had either lost or forgot to bring home her copy, so at the last minute, I was struggling to find the words to the prayer. I went into what I thought was a religious book store and after looking around a little, asked the young lady behind the counter if they carried any Catholic books of prayer. She looked down her nose at me as if I were a bug, and said, very loudly, "We only carry CHRISTIAN books here, not Catholic!" Well, I burst out laughing at her haughty and uninformed act and left the store. I imagine that is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure that since we are not "saved" as Sarah obviously felt she needed to be from her Catholic upbringing, we are lumped into that group who will see eternal damnation, no matter how many 6:30 AM Requiem Masses (IN LATIN) you sang in your younger days. I'm just saying...be careful in whom you put your faith these days. They're not looking at YOU the same way.

  • How does this compare to Obama's Church

    Posner,

Where is the expose on Obama's church? After all he is the candidate for PRESIDENT!!!! Enquiring minds want to know.....

The largest weapons ever made would have couldn't even take out a medium sized city.

Tell that to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those were considered tiny by modern standards. How stupid can you get, neocon?

    Let's find out, shall we?

There was no accidental nuclear detonation, which is quite frankly something that can't happen by accident.

As if you know anything about it:

No, in fact, both US and Russian space agencies are currently suffering from an acute shortage of plutonium. Russia has almost all the remaining stockpile, measured in a few kilograms, and that stock pile will be depleted in a few years.

As if you know anything but your own lies - 34 tons is all the US State Department will admit to the Russians having:

    Russian Plutonium Poses Major Risk

U.S. efforts to dispose of excess plutonium were closely tied to those in Russia, which also declared 34 metric tons of plutonium as excess to weapons needs

    Boy, don't you feel stupid.

  • Another way to look at all this religious stuff

Sarah Palin's religious ideas probably are less twisted, kooky, and dangerous than the Republican Neo-Cons' lies and ideologies. VP Cheney and all his governing partners are deeply committed to conquest, torture, dungeons, oil, American myths, and "The Invisible Hand" of an unregulated Free Market.

They never change their beliefs or their approaches, even when they fail, even when they are proved wrong. Instead, they hunker down and act even more outrageously. The religious fundamentalists' approach fits right in with those Neo-Cons. Matter of fact, it's much easier to understand the fundamentalists, because they base everything on their concept of "The Lord," and they have a book where we can look up their motivations.

The Republicans are scarier. No logic. No consistent principles. No end in sight. No mercy. No justification.

No, in fact, both US and Russian space agencies are currently suffering from an acute shortage of plutonium. Russia has almost all the remaining stockpile, measured in a few kilograms, and that stock pile will be depleted in a few years.

    Here's a larger estimate:

    U.S., Russia Recast Plutonium-Disposition Pact

Russia has an estimated stockpile of 120-170 metric tons of weapons-grade plutonium

    http://www.armscontrol.org/act/2007_12/USRussia

It only takes a few pounds to make a bomb.

Creating a sustained critical chain reaction is an exceedingly complicated process.

Controlling a chain reaction is complicated, nitwit. Creating one isn't. How controlled do you think an atomic bomb is?

And these are just atomic bombs. The thermonuclear device is detonated by the much smaller atomic bomb and is vastly more powerful. Got any idiotic lying propaganda about those?
