I do not understand how anyone can regard lieutenant governor of Alaska as a "national office," as the author apparently does.
The town Ms. Palin served (using the word guardedly) as mayor had fewer people than the small coastal California town where I grew up. Our mayor worked three afternoons a week and did a pretty good job, in between running her real estate business. I cannot imagine being mayor of Wasila was a bigger job. Well, to be fair, our mayor didn't try to impose censorship on our local library or fire the librarian. That might have occupied a little more of Ms. Palin's time.
I try to imagine our former mayor as vice president of the United States and kind of seize up mentally, although I can say unequivocally that I'd rather have her than Palin any day of any week.
