How Democrats are fighting back against Sarah Palin

The Obama campaign is working the press, avoiding a full-scale assault, and waiting for Palin-mania to subside. But is that a smart strategy?

The letters thread is now closed.

Defining Palin

I think Obama's team is missing a critical window to define and subsequently dismiss Palin. Their present strategy sounds eerily similar to Kerry's 2004 Swift Boat response; ignore, take the high ground and hope for the best. I'm worried.

Salon's Palim-o-rama!!

Yes, Salon continues its marathon coverage of Sarah Palin -- yup, yup, it's ALL-PALIN-ALL-THE-TIME!

Palin's a dominatrix, Palin's a feminist, Palin's an extremist, Palin's this, Palin's that...

What fun!!

And while Salon keeps covering Sarah Palin, they don't have to cover the actual issues.

And in the meantime, hopefully Obama will lose!

And then Salon's top brass will rejoice!!!

Why? Read all about it at Salon: The Parody!

Lipstick On A Pig?

Yeah, I know. Obama, you're playing right into their hands. Only these people are allowed to have a -- shudder -- sense of humor. They say something outrageous, it's 'funny'. A leftie says it and you're toast. And the righties are reacting over your quip just as expected -- howling in outrage. They'll be wringing this out for the next few news cycles. C'mon, we have to deal with these folks just like you would with a very, very spoiled child, a spawn from hell, because that's basically what they are. And forget about compromising. Take the Raid to these vermin. Take no prisoners.

Palin and BIG OIL!!!

Use Palin/Bush to talk about BIG OIL. She is their poster girl, their minion. She sees the gravy train like many others in Alaska. Big oil wants more and more drilling rights. Why should they talk about the drilling rights they already have, those rights are money in the bank.

Attack the strength

It is true that the Democrats should define Palin before the Republicans create a lasting false impression that she is a maverick and reformer.

But the real gimme is that Palin overshadows MacCain and how strong a leader can he be when his number inspires more, speaks more forcefully, and connects better than he does. Some people are not meant to be generals. And they shy from the spotlight when they realize they can't measure up.

Why did Republicans need a Palin/McCain ticket? Did they realize reformed mavericks are transparent? Did McCain lose his ability to lead when he sold out his beliefs, capitulated to and collaborated with Bush Republicans?

In this case her strength is his weakness.

Obama need to get tough

It is time for the Obama camp to roll up thier sleeve and fight back, (HARDER).... I hope the camp is loooking at the blogs. We need Obama to talk about the Supreme Court, NAFTA and all the other real issues we face us in the next administration. Stop taking and/or responding to Palin. She has enough baggage to bring herself down all by herself.

Lipstick

Right; Obama said their policies are "Lipstick on a Pig".

Sarah Palin at the Republican National Convention: "You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

Barack Obama, a few days later at a campaign rally: "You can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig."

Obama claims he was not drawing a reference to Sarah Palin, and Salon clearly accepts that. Given the hoots, catcalls, and raucous laughter following the punch line, most if not all of his audience thought otherwise. Don Rickles might be able to get away with such humor, but a serious presidential candidate? Not so much.

Is Palin making a differents

I am 65 and yesterday I registered to vote for the first time.Just to vote for Palin. So,I would have to say she is going to be the changer for a lot of people. I am phoning, writing blogs, posting, emailing and praying. Things I have never done.

"You can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig."

Now that there is a PRESIDENTIAL size gaff.

Why Obama is just as slick, smooth and refined as "W".

Fighting Back

Today I did my first session working ever for a political campaign.

The GOP is out to destroy the country by lining their pockets at the expense of the American people. This is plain. They have no plan, no ability to govern, no sense of morality.

The GOP is smarter, tougher, and more RUTHLESS than I can ever be. But I will fight for my family with my time and my money until this election is finished.

A gamble indeed

Obama's campaign team seems to believe that, at least in this election cycle, voters will allow the rational side of their brain to overrule the instinctive urge to associate with and support those who appear to be of one's own "tribe". McCain's team is betting that, just like in elections going pretty far back (arguably all the way to the beginning of the TV era), the majority will use emotional association to choose.

How many episodes of The West Wing have the Obama folks been watching? In that imaginary universe, arguments are important and sincere and determinative. To which I say "Hollywood make-believe".

Have no doubts, if Obama does win, all the forces of the modern-day Right will be immediately at work to undermine him. Their working philosophy is battle, their every action will speak "This man is not my President!" Because any Democrat, Carter, Clinton, or Obama, is of the Other Tribe.

It is not enigmatic, this behavior. For two hundred thousand human generations, we learned that the most dangerous animal in the forest was not a lion or bear, but Homo Sapiens of a different group. This thing we call democracy, in practice here in America, E Pluribus Unum, is only eleven generations old. How can rationality possibly prevail?

@ the 60 yr old first time voter...

Has this day set a record for first time letter writers? Rush Limbaugh & his ilk must have been VERY busy working up the troops.

My 3 children will vote, too, 2 of them for the first time. I'm more interested in their opinion, quite frankly, than the opinion of someone who could watch this world go through hell for 65 years, & never once vote. And the one thing that makes such a person vote is the fear of an intelligent, educated black man, vs an unpleasant man and his snarky female VP choice? Thank God other elderly people have better sense.

How Democrats are fighting back against Sarah Palin

How do you define someone who is already defined? A dedicated mother of five who loves her country. How do you redefine a women who fights against corruption and special interest and wants to represent the American people? How do you redefine a women who defends life and wishes to protect and help those who are not so fortunate. Dedicated, loving, compassionate and the strength to fight for America is what Sarah Palin is all about.
