McCain's big running-mate rollout

Romney and Giuliani helped supply Wednesday night's "paranoid" conservative politics, while Sarah Palin showed she's no Dick Cheney.

The letters thread is now closed.

@Effie Perine

honey, if you think you can beat the GOP by focusing on the issues, you are delusional. Where, exactly, have you been the last 40 years? The average IQ in the US is 100. Half the US population thinks the world was made in six days, and half the US population rejects evolution. More than half the US population STILL thinks we found WMDs in Iraq.

I am a graduate of the USAF Academy. I thought I'd make the Air Force a career. I ran smack into the politicization of the military, and I left after doing my time. I am ashamed of McCain. He is NOT a smart man. He has NEVER earned a nickel that didn't come from the taxpayers or that didn't accrue to him because of his status as a senator. He's a patriot? Why? How? Exactly what makes you think that his patriotism can't be questioned? Where were you in 2004 when the GOP AND McCain slime went after his honorable service?

And as for the tramp, well, I call them as I seem them. Plenty of families DON'T have their sons and daughters become teenage parents. She and her husband are BAD, neglectful parents. The truth hurts, but it is the truth.

Just what is a "hockey mom", anyway?

What does it mean, exactly? Other than having at least one child that plays hockey, what makes a "hockey mom" different from all the other American moms out there?

For example, does a "hockey mom" have a full-time job outside the home?

Keep Passing the Popcorn

When I first heard that the GOP picked Palin as VP I knew that it would be comedy gold. I am not disappointed.

Thanks to John McCain for the free entertainment!

Palin's speech

Ok ! Hear we go again the same old Republican speech she gave many reasons not to vote for the democrats but no reason to vote for the republicans but this year folks empty rhetoric means nothing I have to laugh at the news media all they talk about is how exciting it is to have a woman on the ticket but what about substance as usual the media is caught up in the history of it and not the reality that palin is just a puppet for the republican right. John MCcain is not a maverick he folded to the right wing just to be elected president I was reminded of the last 8 years of economic, foriegn, and moral decline of our country I feel our country no longer cares about whats right only about what sounds good.

Times are dangerous

Obama simply need to go on This Week and point out that she loved by the GOP bases because she is lock and step with Bush/Cheney.

The lowest approval rating ever and she loves them.

She is clearly out of touch with real Americans.

so she spits in the face of the media

and they refuse to call her out on lying about the bridge to nowhere and several distortions of her opponents? man, don't you just hate the liberal media, always backing down from nut-job conservatives.

the gloves come off.

Petty, Shallow Palin

This was a joke right?

I've never in my life heard someone talk so much, and say so little.

Watching this convention and its delegates was like watching a lunchroom full of rowdy junior high kids- lots of noise and put downs but nothing of any substance.

Here's a news flash for Palin- our economy is in the sewer, foreclosures are at an all time high, the war in Iraq drags on and on and sucks 14 million dollars a DAY after it, millions of Americans have no health care...and what do we get?

Hockey mom jokes.

But in typical GOP fashion- when the majority of Americans don't want what you're selling, just bash the Democrats who have infinitely more to offer this time around.

Pathetic.

Very good speech

Wow - most of letter writers here are a bunch of morons... At least give her a little credit, the speeh was brilliant even if you dont agree with all of her views. The shrill, condescending reactions of the left are exactly why the Republicans are going to win in a landslide in November.

Family values

The new republican values they support premarital sex unwed mothers its hilarious I am so frustrated how the right wing republicans lose there morals to win elections I have to laugh when I hear the right whine when the left talk about her family well how things change. I hope Americans don't get caught up in the hype this is a dangerous time and we need to take this election serious lets remember if it wasn't for the community organizers out in the trenches there would no successful mayors she sounded foolish.

Simple Test

If your political resume still has 'PTA' on the first page, you're not ready to run for Vice President.

And she's a creationist! She wasn't qualified for that PTA job.

I'm amazed she put her kids in her speech at all. They're collectively a null. Positive from the soldier son negated by the pregnant daughter, positive of bearing a special needs infant negated by taking a 24/7 job that means she won't be doing the parenting. And she loaded them all down with random syllables for names.

What is that sputtering sound?

Its the noise that the irrational left makes when a smart, likable, funny, composed, competent and conservative woman like Sarah Palin hits a political grand slam in her first at bat.

And the anger in that sputtering is a result of the recognition deep down that she exposed Mr Obama's great weakness. How better to do so than with her line that 'A mayor is like a community organizer WITH RESPONSIBILITIES!' That is a two-edged sword that goes right to the heart of both his inexperience and her experience.

No doubt some on the left are taking comfort from the belief that it was only the rabid right wingers at the Convention who were impressed. But as with so many other things, they are wrong. People in towns and cities across the US know the real thing when they see it--and they saw it last night and it is going to make a difference. Just watch.
