McCain's big running-mate rollout Romney and Giuliani helped supply Wednesday night's "paranoid" conservative politics, while Sarah Palin showed she's no Dick Cheney.

  • sad era for Republicans

Mayor Guiliani's mean spirited, snarky swipes at Obama and Govenor Palin's sarcastic and inacurate portrayals of Obama and Democratic values reconfirmed that I made the right decision to leave the GOP after 30 years.

I was saddened and frightened by the ravenous and enthusiastic response of those in attandence. They seemed to love the meanness. I pray for our country.

  • I'm only halfway through Shapiro's article. . .

. . . and I'm incredulous as to how much bullshit I've read so far. What reality is he living in? It's as if he's just making up this stuff. A quick glance at the letters shows me other readers have already exposed his bs, so I won't waste my time with that.

Salon is no longer a place I can depend on having interesting and challenging ideas. It has shifted to the bland middle, it is mirroring the consensus of the mainstream media. In other words, kowtowing to the power elite. Following in the footsteps of NPR. The question is, "Why?"

  • Wolfslayer Barbie

Anything Wolfslayer Barbie wants is God's plan. Wolfslayer Barbie knows what God wants.

God wants brave mighty hunters to chase wolves with airplanes until they drop from exhaustion.

Then God wants brave mighty hunters to shoot the adult wolves.

Then God wants mighty brave mighty hunters to leave the wolf puppies to die of exposure, God doesn't want brave mighty hunters to waste ammunition.

    Wolfslayer Barbie knows God's mind.

    God loves Wolfslayer Barbie.

Wolfslayer Barbie makes the Baby Jesus smile.

  • She didn't fall on her face...

Face it, she did a good job from her party's point of view. She was effective in rallying her base and the crowd in the room which was her primary goal. While the negativity may have been offensive, the concern I have is that this is the approach that has worked before for the Republicans. Despite her lack of relative experience on the national stage, she didn't look like a neophyte last night.

The real question is will fear work again? The worry is that it might.

And, frankly, we need to stop the comments about her looks, her past beauty queen status, etc. Focus on her position on the policies.

  • Rudy is not from "the plains"

The Upper East Side of New York is hilly. Please correct your metaphor.

  • More Than Speeches

She has good public speaking skills. It's about more than making speeches.

I'm from Illinois, so I know she distorted Senator Obama's record!

  • The traitor and the tramp.

So the GOP has been reduced to running a traitor and a tramp. The Dems had better go right after these people on what is supposed to be their strengths: security (the traitor's supposed strong suit) and values (the tramp's supposed strong suit).

The traitor puts our security at risk because he is incapable of solving a problem without bombing it; and he is supremely ignorant of basic geopolitical facts (he doesn't know the difference between a Shia and a Sunni, and he thinks Yugoslavia is still a country). He wants to be president so badly that he picks a clearly unqualified affirmative action tramp because he can't stand up to the wing nuts in his own party.

And the tramp: popping out baby after baby is no skill. Taking proper care of them - now that's an accomplishment. The tramp and her husband can't bother to monitor the whereabouts of their own daughter. Pimping her out to the media - and forcing her and that foulmouthed sperm donor into a hasty marriage - are NOT what most American families would want for their children. And this nonsense about teenage pregnancy happening in every American family - NOT! Plenty of American parents teach their sons and daughters values that protect them from teenage pregnancy. The tramp and her husband were AWOL on the most basic of parental responsibilities. And there is that little matter of the so-called pro life tramp flying all over the country after her water broke, avoiding medical care at every opportunity. The tramp's ONLY possible explanation is that she was trying to kill that baby.

Tramp. Traitor. This is the GOP vision for the US, and if the Dems don't get busy, this is what we'll have for the next eight years.

  • Why she's not just a bad choice, but dangerous

Her views are extreme and far away from the mainstream of America's heartland - she is against stem cell research (adding "scientist" to her rugged resume, apparently), she wishes to outlaw a woman's right to choose, and she would use the power of the state to tell you who you could marry, and who you could not. She complained, while mayor of her small town, about certain books on the town's library shelves, although she did nothing. But the request reveals either she was using the power of her office far beyond its mandate, or she was woefully unaware of the mandate she was given.

She is the Church Lady. And with Americans as silly, distracted and careless as they have become, I fear that one day she might become the Commander in Chief Lady.

  • She Kept Her Pants On! Film at 11:00

O.k., as I said, I didn't stay up to listen to her speech (in fairness I didn't do that for Obama either), but like Obama I am now getting the best clips from the evening.

My assesment is, "that all you got?"

That people are gushing about this speech does reveal the media bias towards making this a horse race. It was a decent speech, it hit it's marks, her stage craft was rather shaky and she was very clearly going off a tele prompter and reading a speech she wasn't terribly familiar with.

Her pants didn't fall down, her blouse didn't pop open, she didn't rip one half way through and blame the dog. So in that sense it was a success.

If that's her best presentation after three days of intensive work, I'm not impressed. She needed an out of the park home run, but her speech was decidedly in the park.

Her delivery style I can best compare to Lieberman on Helium, without the inovative ideas for national healthcare.

Stll no meat and potatoes on the most important issue facing the American People today, the economy, and they can call themselves a change ticket all they want, they are still the party of the incombant.

So yeah, she got the crowd excited, but that's sort of like saying KISS rocked the silverdome. No one comes to the concert unless they are ready to rock, and those that don't go simply aren't interested in the show.

Like KISS, behind the makeup and pyrotechnics, and canned applause, it's just an old man replaying the hits of the 80's, even though they wen't out style 8 years ago.
