to being Vice President?
Don't think so.
Can I be VP too?
with a beehive hairdo reading a scripted speech designed to inflame rather than inform.
Is this 2004 all over again?
I ran a deli. Can I be VP too?
Well, that's executive experience, ain't it? I guess you're qualified. You'll have to run as a Republican though. Oh wait ... how good are you at lying through your teeth?
@Palantir
"Sarah Palin is dangerous because she brings out the two worst traits in many of Obama's supporters"
Which makes her exactly the kind of person America needs at a time like this.
I missed Romney's speech - thank goodness - but had the bad luck to see Guiliani.
His speech was pretty much the definition of "smarmy." He sounded like the teacher's pet that all of the regular kids wanted to bash in the hallway between classes.
My favorite line from his diatribe: "When I was a prosecutor, I learned that when the facts don't fit - change the facts." In other words . . . lie. That is exactly what he did last night. It was nice to see him, John McCain and their two diabolical looking trophy wives smirking at his "jokes" about Obama, and his comparisons between Obama and Palin. In Republican World, not only are they equal - Palin is BETTER than Obama.
As much as I would like to, I won't say what impressions I get from Ms. Palin, but suffice it to say that I do not perceive her as Mr. Obama's equal, and the fact that she would join in a lie as outrageous as the one being told by the Republicans - namely that she is ready to be President of the United States - pretty much proves it.
My main problem with the Republicans in general, and the McCain campaign in particular, is that they seem to want to pretend that they had nothing to do with the last eight years - to my mind eight of the most shameful years in American political history - and act as though Barack Obama and John McCain are just two differing agents of change, and that all we're really talking about is methods and experience.
That is a load of crap. If I were Obama, I would start every speech with a list: Iraq,Guantanamo,domestic wiretapping at an unprecedented rate, Katrina, Alberto Gonzalez, Colin Powell quits in disgust (even though he didn't say so), $4 gas, Enron, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Bear Stearns . . . do I really need to go on?
If the Democrats were running a monkey, I'd still say "Throw the bastards out," but since they're running one of the best-qualified, most charismatic candidates ever to seek the office, this is pretty much a no-brainer.
Rudi Ghoul-iani's forever night of the living 9-11...
most of them older than 50. Most of them are immigrants. I am very pleased to announce that while most of them had planned on voting for McCain BEFORE Palin was put on the ticket, NONE of them will now vote for McCain. They see Palin as an affirmative action hire - and an incompetent one at that.
The SCGLM is so busy wondering how many swing voters Palin will bring, they are completely ignoring the working class men who think she is a tramp, an unfit mother who is neglecting her children, and someone who has been placed in the VP slot because of her gender.
Fellow contributors: a comedic pause follows.
@starrs writes:
<< What a novelty to have some truths spoken about the democratic nominee. ... He has never accomplished anything. Increased taxes will kill our economy (sic) actually result in less job growth and opportunity and security!! We need reform not tax increases. The chosen one by the media is not the right one to lead at this time- he cannot make decisions without committee approval because he has no experience. He has never served but had plenty of time to write 2 egocentric books. I completely disagree with the republicans on some issues but I was very proud to see a strong woman. What a transformative moment to see the VP holding her baby -- not someone else's. I have waited a long time for this!>>
@starrs you are certifiably ignorant. If Palin’s screed was a novelty then you are a nominee for a Rhodes Scholarship. What truths were spoken? Seriously, how can anyone without a drool cup write as you did: He has never accomplished anything. Anything? Increased taxes pay for programs that help morons like you get the help they so deperately need. BTW: had you listened to what Senator Obama said, “95 percent of American taxpayers” will receive a tax break. @starr, if you are in that top 5% get a tutor. Oh, yes, about those “egocentric” books. Those two are autobiographies where writers write about themselves. How dear @starr would you have them written? And finally about that holding the baby business: for well over half Palin's screed the 7 year old was holding the babe; Dad did a turn as did Mrs. McOldFartyPants. Not a big leap to imagine Palin off-loading this to a nanny while she minds the government stuff.
@copper
This equally brilliant mind, writes in his cleverly titled “Very good speech”:
<< Wow - most of (the) letter writers here are a bunch of morons... At least give her a little credit, the speeh (sic) was brilliant even if you dont (sic) agree with all of her views. The shrill, condescending reactions of the left are exactly why the Republicans are going to win in a landslide in November.>>
Reading @copper reinforces my fear of the phrase: jury of your peers. First he insults all contributing writers then asks us to support his position on her speeh (sic) which he asserts was brilliant without so much as an iota of proof or support. I for one miss the connection between how this speech triggers shrill, condescending reactions posits a Rethuglian victory. We leftists must be in some kind of mental and emotional Gordian knot: we are so constrained we can't stop the momentum of this hate-fest. Well, if @copper says it’s so then it must be.
@copper follows up with the cherry on the sundae in a later entry:
<< Someone actually called Palin a tramp in an earlier posting. I automatically stop reading when I see something like that and dismiss the persons (sic) views out of hand. Oh, same goes for the use of the word Nazi as a descriptive term for anyone who is not literally commiting genocide.>>
Warning to all: @copper is a person of high sensibilities and the super human powers to stop reading when an ad hominum developing is detected. You are also a hypocrite. @copper can refer to all who are writing as a “bunch of morons” but don’t be calling Palin a “tramp” and no frivolous use of Nazi. BTW @copper, none of the other entries save yours uses the word Nazi. But it is nice to know info. Helps me form a mental image of you.
Just because you can provide an entry doesn’t mean you should. And if you do, at the very least, present a structured argument with facts in support of your ideas – few of us really care how much you liked it, how it was easy to dance to, or how you could “relate”. Sweeping generalizations, conclusions lacking support, and opinions without a shred of evidence are anything but persuasive or informative. Misspellings and grammatical errors don't paint you as stupid but bubblegum prose gets you there instantly.
