The more I read about Palin and compare her to her real record the more scared I get.
She's not even close to reformer or progressive. That's a straight up lie.
Her record doesn't support her talk IN ANY WAY. Complete snow job.
Liberals say tax and spend on public works and infrastructure.
Conservatives say cut taxes, cut spending, and let business make a more efficient economy.
Palin and Bush cut taxes, but increased spending. That's neither conservative nor Liberal. That's moronic.

If you don't like this web site you can always leave. If you have a problem with people who have differing views sharing your country... well, I'm afraid nobody can help you there, though that's not a very American perspective.
The people who made this country what is is were militant liberals, in the dictonary sense:
lib·er·al (lĭb'ər-əl, lĭb'rəl) adj. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. (The American Heritage Dictionary)
The Founding Fathers didn't have any problem taking on the status quo and were pretty vocal about the separation of church and state. And they didn't just protest, they kicked ass. Plenty of Britis Loyaltists said, "If you don't like this country, leave." So they did. Be careful what you wish for, eh? Liberalism, especially on issues of civil rights and civil liberties, is a patriotic American tradition.
We've got a great culture of mixed capitalism here but not long ago that was also considered a liberal economic policy. Still is in some places. There's a happy medium where people can still get rich enough to buy and sell their own houses a hundred times over and let impoverished children get their check-ups and shots for free. Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, said taxes were the price we paid for living in a civilized society. Roosevelt said the essential human freedoms were freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, freedom from fear. As the richest, most powerful country in the history of the world, America is head and shoulders above any other country in its ability to provide those things to a majority of its citizens. Without putting our mixed powerhouse economy at risk.
I earn plenty of money. And Obama's going to be great for moderates like me.
...has spent a week sneering at, dismissing and smearing Sarah Palin, her husband, her daughter, her town, her state, her work... now she takes one poke back and everyone cries about being insulted. they just didn't expect her to be tough, and they're afraid. Even Obama's on the defensive, defending his record against the #2, much less approaching McCain.
Barack also used to be a Constitutional Law professor, which is kind of like knowing how the government works, including knowing what the vp does.
Palin used to be a tv news reporter, which is kind of like being eloquent, only somebody else writes your words for you, and nobody watches you at home and says "damn, that guy makes me remember the things that are great about this country, and makes me feel like they didn't all happen before my lifetime."
I live in Denver, and I couldn't help comparing the sometimes half-empty hall at the RNC to the energy flowing through this city during the DNC. If the administrations are going to be anything like the convention, you can keep the one that's full of nastiness and bitterness, with journalists and protesters being arrested sometimes even before they arrive in town. Give me the city where people were walking around and smiling even though the streets were crowded. Give me the city where the armed police spent most of their time posing for pictures. Give me the city where people talked about what we could do, that we could do it, that we could all do it and be part of it. Forget all those words--hope, change, country. Break it down past that. At its most basic, the difference between the parties this year is this: Obama's people are walking around saying yes, and Palin and her people are huddled together screaming no.
I vote yes.
Sarah Palin is dangerous because she brings out the two worst traits in many of Obama's supporters: reflexive sexism and sneering condescension toward small town people. There are any number of examples in posts on Salon today; both are nicely incapsulated in this screed:
Angry obnoxious condescending bitchBeing a supercilious cunt may qualify you to scream at 9 year olds at the ice rink and jab refs in the chest with your finger when your pre wifebeating asshole of a kid gets a bad call, but it doesn't make you qualified to stand up to world figures, some of whom are pretty fucking nasty and 10x more ruthless than you are, Sarah. Go back to Walrustown where you came from.

And it's not just online ranters. The Obama campaign's first official statement on Palin made a mistake, I think, by sneering at her history as a small town mayer. This ties into the infamous "bitter" remarks, as Palin made clear in her remarks. We keep hearing about how Obama needs to win over small town, working class voters. He's not going to do it if his campaign and his supporters obviously despise those very voters (Walrustown?).
As for the sexism, well, this has been much discussed already. I'll just say that I've never voted Republican in my life, and I won't start now, but I may go for Cynthia McKinney and the Greens this year. A big part of the reason is that I simply cannot stand how many Obama supporters think it's just fine to call a woman candidate for office a bitch, tramp, or cunt; to obsess about her physical appearance and reproductive organs; and to wallow in sleazy accusations about her parenting skills and alleged inability to be a mom and hold elective office at the same time. I do not think I am the only woman turned off by this, and I would not be surprised if it drove some to consider supporting the McCain/Palin ticket.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
