How dare the Republicans try to place such an unqualified irresponsible ideologue as Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the presidency? For years, her husband belonged to Alaska's American Independent Party (AIP), a political party which advocates that Alaska secede from the United States and form its own separate country. Does that sound patriotic to you? Only by the standards of Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and the rest of their herd. Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, is a living Poster Girl for the fact that Sarah's narrow "Abstinence Only" policy does not work. Yet, Sarah and her right-wing cohorts would impose "Abstinence Only" on all American women by appointing Supreme Court Justices who would abolish all freedom of reproductive choice. Putting Sarah Palin on the ticket is a calculated effort by John McCain to appeal to his right wing base. With McCain, it's "Put the Base First" -- Not the Country. John "Shoot From The Hip" McCain has just shot himself in the foot.
A grown (???) man who openly advocates attacking a child in the most vicious terms. Your letter proves my point. What a sad, sad person you are.

Only people worried about the pregnant daughter who's 17 is the press. Get real all you guys can dig up is she once flirted, and fished without a fishing liscense. Is there no ends to what the press will dig up and run with to get a charge. Even Obama has the guts to say stay out of the families personal life. The real enemy of this Country is the press, and the maggots who work for the press that continually try to outdo the other with rediculous crap. How about writng about the real problems and what each candidate thinks and can do about those problems, so maybe the best candidate can be chosen based on their political record, not whether their 3rd cousin got caught urinating on a bush. Keep writing your crap, the public sees right through it other than the idiots that post in Salon, and of course Slate.

Although never quite as pretty as Jude Law, I was in my youth often summoned by Hansom Cab from my rough East End dwellings and whisked to Tite Street Chelsea for Oscar Wilde's after dinner amusement, yes.

The US electorate has become so misinformed, disinformed, indoctrinated and confused with right-wing propaganda since the Reagan regime that Rove wanted McCain to campaign with one of Dubya's rented cattle as the VP nominee, just to show it could be done.

No, Miss Manners, I advocate attacking her mother, and by extension McCain, for their hypocrisy and demonstrably wacky views on sex ed, and reckless judgment, respectively.
Sure, she's entitled to a career, despite the fact she has kids.
Nobody's yet mentioned that with dad out of town working all the time and mom so busy with politics, the kids basically raised themselves, so let me be the first to point that out.

Now lets get back to sex. Strangely enough America is currently out doing Britain when it comes to sexual hypocrisy and prurience. And that takes some biscuit I can tell you.
I'm a little perplexed.. Until the last few days, I was under the impression that premarital sex by teenagers and out of wedlock births by the same are something that society generally does not approve of.
But now we are going have the spectacle of a teen aged unwed mother and the sperm donor (to use Dr Laura's term) being feted on stage during a national political convention. To the best of my knowledge this has not happened before.
I have one pubescent and one almost pubescent granddaughter and I'm wondering what their grandmother and I should say to them should the question of premarital sex and out of wedlock births arise, particularly so in light of the upcoming situation at the RNC. Y'all are aware, I'm sure, that children tend to ask awkward questions and I could really use some help in trying to come up with answers.
Could some of you social conservatives help me out here? I know y'all are the arbiters of all things moral and I'm just an old liberal/progressive, atheistic dirty fuckin' hippie who has no clue when it comes to morals. What is the party line on unwed teen sex and motherhood these days?
