Mike Madden knows what journalism is: just the facts, mam.
This is a fair and decent column. The first I have seen regarding Sarah Palin. The media is stirring up a hornets nest
and it is going to backfire on them.
Somewhat beside the point, but you wrote that "Palin flew down to McCain's Sedona, Ariz., cabin in secret on Wednesday..." The fact is that it's a multi-home estate, tended by a live-in staff, not a cabin. Let's not reinforce this mythology of the "McCommon Man and His Backwoods Sidekick".
Like, my vet, for example. He does this great spay/neuter thing.
as a mom with a career, I think Sarah Palin is reprehensible. Sure, she's entitled to a career, despite the fact she has kids. But she had a perfectly good one - being governor of Alaska. Fulfilling, challenging, well-paying. She's NOT entitled to make whatever power grab she wants and sacrifice her family for a shot at a job she's not even remotely qualified to perform. Just say 'no,' Sarah! Oh, wait -- that's for OTHER people.
I'm a lifelong Democrat but I'm completely disgusted by this nasty feeding frenzy. Let's be honest, McCain/Palin didn't turn Bristol Palin into a political issue, the extreme Left led by Crazy Kos did. They started this ridiculous rumor about Palin's youngest child and forced Palin to respond. The pathetic excuse that McCain/Palin should have known it would come out is just that, pathetic. It came out because the Left wanted to go after Palin and didn't care who they took down with her. I agree with Obama that children should be left out of it. Too bad so many of his supporters are too malicious to listen.
As for vetting, just because these are "revelations" to the MSM, how is that evidence that McCain didn't know? That Bristol Palin was pregnant was not a secret, she was clearly already showing. And Palin's political enemies in Alaska running around complaining that they weren't asked about her is beyond stupid.
I've never had a manicure in my entire life, I'm a former Marine
You surprise me. I hear the bars in San Franciso are filled with ex marines with the most exquisite nail jobs.
For years the Democrats have fought their Presidential campaigns like gentlemen, while the Republicans have fought like street fighters. The Democrat would hit the Republican, then extend a hand to help him back on his feet to finish the fight fairly. And you know what? The Republican would grab the Democrat's hand, poke him in the eyes, kick him in the groin, knee him in the chin, and then when the Democrat fell down, the Republican would circle around and stomp on his head until he won.
Sorry pal, but those days are over. Sarah Palin preaches abstinence and other nutso religious garbage and her little daughter gets pregnant? Ha-ha! I say, use Bristol to tear Palin and McCain apart. This time we win.
McCain's house, which is habitually identified as being a "cabin in Sedona, Arizona," is neither a cabin nor in Sedona.
The house is in Cottonwood, which is a small town with a Wal-Mart between Sedona and Jerome, southwest of Flagstaff. Cottonwood is about 20 miles from Sedona. And calling the house "a cabin" makes it sound like Abe Lincoln's birthplace in Kentucky. Does anybody think Cindy McCain would live in a "cabin"?
The place is a full-on, nicely appointed house with a lot of ground around it.
I guess someone with "Lad" in their screen name would know about homosexual bars in San Franciso.
Why is everyone so down on Sarah Palin's selection by John McCain?
Remember that as head of Alaska's national guard she commands more troops than he ever did.

[Voice Over:] "Would you like to live in an authoritarian police state marked by torture and governmental lawlessness?
Would you like to change the system our Founders designed (checks and balances, rule of law) to and imperial presidency? If so, McCain/Palin is your choice!
"Or maybe this is too much to think about? Why you don't we play People Magazine-style personality politics, wave the flag a lot, and pretend we're a patriot? That's right little sheep, come on over to the dark side..."

There is a high probability that McCain may not live through the next four years as president. And who will we be left with? President Pailin. Have the Republicans gone mad? Is America crazy? Someone needs to point out that comparing Palin and Obama on the basis of experience is pure bunk! She may be a good bureaucrat, but what does she have that separates her from the crowd? What´s Palin´s philosophy? What´s ner message for change or her position concerning America´s future? What does she have to show concerning her judgment? What capacity does she have to inspire and to lead? What standing does she have among international leaders? Would she even be able to relate to them? What are her foreign policy ideas? What are her domestic policy ideas? If McCain does not outlast this presidency, she would have to take his position. Is this a woman who is qualified to be the next president of the United States? At the very least McCain should have chosen some one who campaigned for president and took stands on the issues. This woman is getting a free ticket to the presidency of the United States. The media should be shouting this out!
...and I'm uncomfortable on this lefty site, but in the '60s Joe Pyne would offer wacko guests a one-way ticket to a socialist country. Sounds good in theory but it fails every time it's tried. There is no incentive for achievement and on and on. Put them in a bag, shake them up and dump them out, they're all the same...Lenin, Trotsky, Marx, etc. We'll always have Ted Kennedys around to play Robin Hood. Fortunately we have ways of stifling the John Kerrys who garner the wealth for themselves and dole out a pittance to the masses. John and Sarah can save this country from creeping liberalism.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
