What is the relevance of Bristol's pregnancy?
How about the simple fact that parents whose teenage daughters get pregnant have NOT done a very good job of parenting?
So, Obama's grand-mother was not a good mother?
You know, Obama's mother was 18 when Obama was born, and no, his parents were not married, as if that really matters.
Ask Obama if he thinks his grand-mother did a poor parenting job.
Right on. I hadn't considered just how callous she must be to knowingly subject a 17-year-old girl, pregnant and likely embarrassed as hell about it anyway, to the scrutiny she'll now receive. This woman is naked, arrogant ambition defined. McCain really must be senile.
Palin will be dropped from the ticket and in a year's time she will either
A) Have her own "Judge" show
or
B) be a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars"
BUT all kidding aside: Barack is right, family should be off limits and he proved to be the bigger person in making his statement. In a perfect world this wouldn't be a big story, but guess what?
This speaks volumes regarding both Mcain's judgement AND Palin's parenting skills. What part of the message about 'teen abstinence' did Bristol not hear? Or was Mommy too busy off being super mayor-governor-former beauty pageant winner with a gun person? They can certainly try, but this can't be spun by the Republicans. All of the sudden teen pregnancy is okay for them? "Well at least she's going to have the baby and not abort it." Are they on crack? If Obama or Biden had this going on in their families right now it would be game over.
Just curious
Is there a case for statutory rape here
No, almost all states have what are termed Romeo and Juliet laws that decriminalize sex between two people close in age.
In fact, there is controversy because in many states such laws do not include same sex encounters. Amending such laws either through the courts or legislature is part of expanding gay rights.
Unless "Levi" is substantially older, then there is no statutory rape.
You couldn't write better satire than what has become public since last thursday! The Palin saga continues...can't wait to see what crawls from under the carpet next!
the father is 25 years old
what's wrong, xanthro, is that Palin MADE IT AN ISSUE. Her strident Abstinence Only/anti-education stance has set her up to be shown as a confirmed FAILURE.
Furthermore, the fact that she'd willingly subject her troubled children/grandchildren to the glare of 24/7 media scrutiny shows that she is indeed a terrible mother.
What kind of kid pregnant at 17 decides to keep the baby and get married? The issue isn't abortion--she could have given it up for adoption and pro-life people would have called her a heroine. A girl who decides to throw her life away like this, to raise a kid when she's in her teens--no college, no career--is junk.
I'm amazed that an ostensibly middle class educated mama like Sarah Palin would tolerate this. It reflects adversely on her and on her family.
Honestly, now-- this woman simply needs to withdraw her nomination for VP. She has too many private responsibilities to be VP, and it's just WRONG to do to your family what she is doing to hers.
I have three kids-- one teenager and two smallish ones (4 and 5)... I can tell you that when I had a 4-month-old baby who was entirely normal and had no special needs whatsoever, I barely had time to brush my teeth and I certainly could not think straight. And I didn't have a teenager at the time-- he was a sweet-natured 10-year-old who was not yet thinking about sex, drugs and whatnot.
So it is a mystery to me, how Sarah Palin thinks she can take a break from her special-needs 4-month-old baby and her 17 year old who as she mentions desperately needs the support and care of her family, and go run all over the country to get elected VP...
Is this a moral choice??? Is this a choice we'd hope our mothers make for their families? To put our private issues on display like this, neglect the children, all for the sake of a political job?
See, that's the thing about Evangelicals. THey claim the moral high ground but when you really look at it, their behavior is frequently just desperately nastily immoral. No mother I know would do this to her family. Palin, apparently, didn't think twice.
Don't expect the republican parrots to back off Obama's parentage now. Hannity has been doing so all day, saying "we don't talk about how Obama's mother was 18 and unwed" brawwwwk... "we don't talk about how Obama's mother was 18 and unwed" brawwwwk... "we don't talk about how Obama's mother was 18 and unwed" brawwwwk... Unless it's black-on-white a la Genarlow Wilson. Then you deserve 10 years in prison.
1) She knew the kid was knocked up, due to her negligence in supervision of this daughter, WHO GOT PREGNANT AT 17.
2) She concealed that from McCain.
Number two is a bold face lie. The information was volunteered at the very beginning of the process. As was her husband's DUI 20 years ago, and Gov. Palin citation of for fishing without a license once.
Once again, Obama's mother got pregnant and gave birth at 18.
Stick to the facts, lie really aren't needed.
Huge difference between Obama's mother and Palin's daughter. Obama had absolutely no influence in the life of his mother. However, Palin raised the daughter and we see the outcome. Nice try, but they are not even close.
Face it, McCain's pick is a disaster, and this is only the start.
You see, Fennel, college-educated Sarah doesn't raise the children. Barely-educated husband raises the kids, while Sarah earns the bread. Not exactly corn-fed flyover values.
