  • So Getting Married Makes It Okay?

She's 17 and pregnant and her mother is running for VP. Boy, do I feel sorry for her. But, the solution is that she marry the father. Excuse me, but I think that compounds the error and doesn't make their prior error okay. I have absolutely no information, but if it's a shotgun wedding it just makes things worse and not better. And, excuse me, but I don't think that a shotgun wedding is a family value. I just hope that there is someone in that family that will talk some sense to everyone.

  • So Much For the "Social Reformer" Tag

Nice to know that I'm not the only one here that can see through this "family values" double-talk to the truly rotting core of hypocrisy beneath. Barack Obama wisely said let's leave this alone. We have bigger things to talk about. Yet the double-standard is too big and too important not to point out.

So called "social reformer" wants a pass for his/her own behavior while dictating what other people should do in their families and their lives.

Barack is right. It should be a private matter. But because the GOP is in thrall to the Christian Right, it will not be. Too bad for Bristol.

  • Let's play "I'm Sarah Palin"

John McCain asks me to be VP. Should I agree?

    1) i lied in my support for the bridge to nowhere. Should I tell John? NO

    2) My child has Down's. Should i run for VP? YEESSSSSS YSSSESSS YESSSSSYYSSSS YSSSSS

    3) My 17 year old, who I haven't seen for 6 months, appears to be pregnant? Should I tell John? NO Should i run for VP? YYEYEYYSYYS YESSSS YESSSS

    4) I joined a treasonous party which advocates independence for Alaska . Should I tell John? NO Should I run for VP? YYEYYSYSYYSYS YEYYSSS ES YESS YESSS YESSSS OH GOD YESSSS

    Back to myself....

What kind of monstrously incompetent mother would run ror VP with this SHITLOAD OF SHIT over her head, knowing that she was going to run into a FIRESTORM OF SHIT?

She knew all this, and STILL CHOSE TO RUN.

She is a monstrously incompetent MOTHER. She is possibly the least qualified person in AMERICA to be POTUS.

    AND JOHN MCCAIN CHOSE HER!

  • I don't get it

I am a mom of a teenage daughter. I cannot imagine knowingly subjecting a young pregnant daughter to the 24 hour news cycle....TV, the Internet, and traditional newspapers. She knew her daughter was pregnant, and she accepted McCain's offer. Just so we voters can all appreciate what a loving, caring martyr, I mean mother, Sarah Palin is....I feel sorry for the poor young girl.

  • What ELSE IS there to do in Alaska?

Besides bang like Caribous in heat?

  • Change The Name of This Article, Please!

This is beneath the usual standards of salon.com.

  • Bristol is a very lucky single pregnant teenager...

She has a loving and supportive family that will enable her to get married, have a baby at 17, and be able to raise her children and presumably complete her education or whatever it will take for her to have a roof over her head and food on her table.

It's great that she has a safety net under her to catch her when she is a statistic of her mother's failed policies.

If this most supportive model family cannot make her mother's policies work, what hope does the average family have? And taking care of their daughter in a loving and supportive manner when there is a policy failure IS NOT the same as have an effective policy.

And isn't she lucky that she was able to "decide" whether or not to have the baby and whether or not to keep it? Just like her mother was able to "decide" to have her down's syndrome baby.

The majority of teenage girls in this country do not have a family that is willing and/or able to support her should she become a statistic of a failed policy. Too many families are having problems making ends meet and having the time to raise, support, and educate their kids WITHOUT having to take on the responsibility of being a grandparent in addition to raising their kids.

As much as I agree with Obama that kids are off limits of campaigns, if looking at Al Gore's personal energy footprint is an issue when looking at energy sufficiency, then Palin's ability to personally implement her core initiatives should also be an issue. And so far, she does not seem to be doing so well. Of her three primary issues, energy, anti-corruption, and pro-life, abstinence only teachings, she seems to have some pretty big questions on two of them.

  • A private matter? NO

"Barack is right. It should be a private matter. But because the GOP is in thrall to the Christian Right, it will not be. Too bad for Bristol."

Well, that's the politically correct thing to say, and Obama needed to say it.

However, he is wrong, although he can't say that.

    1) She knew the kid was knocked up, due to her negligence in supervision of this daughter, WHO GOT PREGNANT AT 17.

    2) She concealed that from McCain.

    3) Her lust for power is so strong that she has decided to sacrifice her daughter on the alter of political heat to get the VP.

This story is relevant because it demonstrates that this woman has such a monstrous lust for power that she is disqualified from the office.

  • Sorry but... Governor Palin made her family and her children a

central part of her stump speech. From the moment she was "introduced" I found it highly distasteful to use the birth of a down syndrome child for political purposes. She made quite a large point of her son going to Iraq on September 11. There are other prominent politicians with sons serving in Iraq who never mention it. Probably because it seems wrong to take the service of their sons -- who may lose their lives -- and use it to bolster their own political appeal.

As presented, her "personal story" is supposed to be the central part of her appeal. Her family is fair game because she put them out there to advance her political career.

  • There's a Reason Why Bristol has Baby Trig Plastered to her Chest

And why she is draped in a flowing white blanket while holding him. I mean come on, she only needs a burp pad on her shoulder, not a white robe.

Ahhh.. a white robe! A young woman, her face framed by pulled-back dark hair, a baby held close to her at all times, a white robe atop her clothes.

She is being iconized. She is supposed to remind us of another dark haired, white-draped young lady cradling a baby who lived more than 2,000 years ago.

I kid you not. The GOP is Mary-izing this girl. And it will work. Remember, though Mary had a baby, she was a virgin. They are making Bristol look like a virgin mother. Get ready to see Bristol carrying that baby with her day and night.

But don't ask me who is going to hold that little baby when her own child is born. Certainly not her busy, busy mom.
