Was Cindy McCain dressed as an Oscar statue? I can't look at this picture without sunglasses.
Because kids are NOT the prisoners of their hormones, like so many of these apologists are claiming. Nope, intelligent kids make intelligent choices, supported by their parents.
Wow your neurosis are really showing. Mother and father complexes and penned up sexual tension. Maybe Salon isn't the site for you Dataguy.
Have you joined the Cult of Sarah? Obviously, Sarah is the Most Important Person in the United States, because only such a REALLY REALLY REALLY Important Person would Crucify her own daughter for her Sacred Duty to the Nation.
Would you do that to your child? Wow. I sure wouldn't. But that's the Fundamentalist Wack Mindset. She is going to Destroy her Child to Save her.
Let's contrast Sarah's de-facto accomplishments to the documented record of Joe Biden. In spite of the fact that Obama's 3:00am VP announcement was a direct, and not-so-subtle, slap at Hillary and her supporters for her Primary criticism of his notorious and painfully evident inexperience, the Clintons are ecstatic over Obama's pick of "Jawbone" Biden as his VP. A man who can speak eloquently ad-nauseam while saying absolutely nothing of substance. Biden, advertised as the brain-trust for the Obama ticket, is the same foreign policy "expert" who told the Israelis that they would have to passively accept a nuclear armed Iran, which of course would eventually guarantee the destruction of their Nation. The same individual who stated that the "Surge" was doomed to failure; and, who promoted the partitioning of Iraq into three separate nations, which would have precipitated a violent Iraqi civil war; and, assured the eventual incorporation of Shia Iraq into Iran. Sounds more like a single digit IQ than an expert! The McCain camp will certainly exploit Biden's former prolific praise of McCain; his multiple assertions that Obama was not sufficiently experienced to assume the Presidency; and, who correctly noted that the White House was not the proper venue for Obama's: "On-The-Job-Training". Obviously Obama was smart enough to recognize that he needed a "Handler" close-by 24/7; and, no-doubt has scheduled Biden for remedial training in diaper changing. It's a good time to invest in "Pampers". It's become apparent that Obama has some insidious need to constantly poke the Clintons in the eyes. One has to wonder if an "angry" Michelle Obama is prompting such responses! However, the Clinton's, astute in the way of politics, will simply re-enforce their base of supporters in preparation for a now certain 2012 bid. Greg Neubeck
If the shoe were on the other foot would the righteous R's resist making comments on how the dissolute D's are undermining family values. Once again it's the old double standard.
It should be fair game to ask Gov Palin where she stands on teaching birth control as part of sex ed in public schools.compare this "outrageous question" to Bernard Shaw's question to Dukakis in the 88 debate. See more double standard
"But that exactly is the whole point of the right. They feel that life has been devalued and that society pushes people to abort less than "perfect" children. A disturbing aspect of the pro-choice movement is that kids with Down's and some other disabilities are being systematically erased from our society through abortion."
I hear this all the time, and am totally confused. Remind me again why this is bad, why aborting a Down's child is not a really really good idea. Personally, I just have no problem with that. Same with Tay-Sachs, same with any number of other conditions.
Abortion is a really good solution to this problem. I endorse it without reservation for such children.
Again, we have the double standard - can't you people see that the reason Bristol's pregnancy is news worthy is because her Mom's party is the party of "supposed" family values? These are the people that condemn un-wed mothers, these are the people who pretend to live in "Ozzie and Harriet" land, these are the people who want sex education taken out of schools, these are the people who want laws determined by their personal views on religion. These are the people who 'name call' and judge others unfairly, all to make themselves feel better by attempting to make others feel worse. Yes, these are the people of the Republican Party and almost everyday, they engage in the same behavior, they are contributors to the same scandals, as the people they claim to be better than.
Well, this article isn't sexsist. It's about holding the mirror up to their faces and guess what, they really can't stand what they see.
Sarah Palin and John McCain exemplify the reasons in which the Republican Party will lose the election in November - they're living proof that when you point a finger at someone, you have three more pointing back at you.
Abstinence only doesn't work. While I agree this is a family matter, but by accepting the nomination supposedly with Palin knowing her daughter was knocked and being very vocal in her support for abstinence only education Palin knowingly threw her daughter into the public debate. You can't tell me that if the Obama girls were teens and one of them was pregnant the right-wing wouldn't be having a field day with this.
Was this meant to be a joke? Her lack of experience is a matter of public record. Now more than ever experience and knowledge of international relations is more important than ever and this is a woman who in her own words "never really thought about Iraq". Her prior political experience before being Gov. of Alaska could literally fit on the back of a postcard. Worst case scenerio: McCain dies in office and she takes over as President. Ya really think this woman is up to the task? She's the Harriet Myers of VP nominations, IMHO.
No, the only issue to work through is that you support a ticket and a candidate that puts religion first, not our country.
The Palin pick was a red meat pick to get cold, hard CASH from Christian conservatives, period. She is not qualified for the job, end of story. To state otherwise, is just to be dishonest and play partisan games.
Some of us didn't support Barrack initially, but we know that the problems we face require careful and diligent attention that the Republicans have failed to address. The Palin pick only highlights these failings and confirms that it will be just more of the same with McCain. That's the issue we are working through, while you and McCain want to play it "cute."
You, and by your support of McCain, have apparently just decided to try to ignore it or detract from it. It's not going away. It will still be here four years from now IF McCain wins. That's the salient issue of our time and is what is at the heart of the matter. The Republicans have failed miserably and they only have ideology to rest on.
So, take your tired, sophomoric wit and freshman intellect over to another crowd that doesn't care that our country needs a major correction that McCain will not provide.
