That is the hard part about being a conservative. We believe in taking responsibility for our mistakes and not forcing someone else (like a defenseless baby) to do so.

You have GOT to be kidding?! Oh it just gets better and better...
In choosing Palin and having her accept, McCain is essentially hiding behind a woman and babies, effectively distracting Americans from looking good and hard at HIM. And the GOP still has the gall to call this guy a "hero" and "brave"? Oh yeah, he's a real maverick, paving the way for women on the ticket.
Really? BS! If that were the point he'd have chosen a QUALIFIED Republican woman, one who believes in "country first", as is his campaign slogan, and not one who was a member of and made a supportive video for a secessionist "Alaska First" group the founder of which said he "has no use for America".
If McCain were so "brave" and wanted to put a woman on the ticket for the sake of actually having her be respected he'd have chosen very differently -- but he didn't. He chose this one with all the kids, including the special needs little angel from heaven, as a SHIELD, knowing full well that anyone who's too hard on her - read: Biden, when they have the VP debate - will get called out for being a "bully". Not so if McCain had chosen a QUALIFIED woman without the baby shield.
And voila, just like clockwork, here comes Laura 'No really I'm okay to drive!' Bush the other day, lecturing the left about how they better be careful how they treat Palin. Oh really? Like you GOP'ers were careful with Hillary? Nah --- Hillary can take it, she's a big girl -- she has no extra-special gift from heaven in the form of a special needs baby.
Using this woman and baby (babies, plural, plus a teenage girl --- because McCain claims he knew beforehand)as a SHIELD against getting back what GOP'ers have dished out over and over to their opponents.
It's the most cowardly, pathetic spectacle you people have pulled off in a while, and god knows you've pulled off many.
Laughing? You better believe it. Not at Palin. At that dimwit McCain, your "hero".
HAR!!!
And she chose to have her baby. If it were up to her mother she would not have that choice.
I agree that the Palin family's current teen pregnancy should not be fodder for the press or campaign taglines. I hope, however, that we can still discuss the obvious lesson inherent in Bristol Palin's pregnancy. "Abstinence only" doesn't work. If it doesn't work in a strong supportive family like the Palins, how can we require that it work anywhere without providing our teens with appropriate reproductive health education and alternatives, like birth control. I'm sure the Palins taught their daughter to wait until marriage - so much for teens following parental advice that goes against their natural urges. Let's arm our teens with information and provide easy access to birth control. I don't think most of us want our daughters to "have to get married" at 17 and begin raising unplanned families. This is the 21st century. Let's use technology in support of intelligent life choices.
Were you Obama folks born yesterday? Didn't you know there were people who opposed Roe v Wade? Is she the first republican to feel this way? This should make it easy for you. What's the hoopla? Dissing Hillary and being protected by the media so we didn't hear about the Rezco slums and the Sinclair affair is not enough for you? Is it because Obama got such a measely bump from that multi-million convention. Look you don't have to type volumes about sex ed and abortion policy to prove your point. You're so smart and McCain and Palin are so dumb. You've got the HAHVAHD guy. You're going to win right? So what's your problem?
...that a woman who has made an entire political career out of stances such as the absolute opposition to any constitutional right to privacy should now expect and demand privacy for the daughter she herself thrust into the public spotlight?
Gay marriage may be destroying America, but unprotected straight sex is producing children who must live with Down syndrome or be raised by emotionally unequipped 17 year old parents. At least gay people won't accidentally conceive a sick child that must be supported by taxpayer dollars.
Sarah Palin is a right-wing, pro-life hero because she didn't abort her Down syndrome baby. Funny, if abortion really is murder, I would think that the simple act of refraining from murder would just make someone normal, not a saint.
The hypocrisy of people like Palin is astounding. And this is just her personal life... we haven't even started with her politics yet!
This column is exactly the way for Democrats to lose the election.
Daily Kos was way out of line when it refused to deal with any comments on John Edwards, but led the ugly charge against the Palin family with no facts and lots of rumor about Brig.
You have chosen to stir the ashes on the story of a 17 year old pregnant girl - WOW, what a wonderful liberal attitude.
Finally, to gnash your teeth because the GOP had to make some kind of accommodation to the terrible reality of Hurrican Gustav really exposes your totally shallow partisan self. If these were Democrats following Obama making the same decdisions and behaving the same way you would be singing their praises for their sensitivity and compassion.
It's people like you who made me leave the Democratic Party on July 15th.
I prefer Obama to McCain, but guys like you are not doing him any good.
As members of the Assembly of God church, do the Palins believe and speak in tongues? It a practice that is accepted and promoted inside the Assembly of God and other Charasmatic churches. I wish someone in the national media would ask Mrs. Palin is she has ever spoke in the "heavenly language." If she has been "baptized in the spirit" as her religion promotes, her answer should surely be "Yes."
