There's enough circumstantial evidence about Sarah and Bristol Palin that make it quietly clear: Bristol is the mom, and Sarah faked a pregnancy to cover for her daughter. Sarah's pregnancy didn't show according to her staffers and a Time Mag reporter even in the 7th month--in stark contrast to pictures of an obviously pregnant Sarah when she was carrying her first child. Bristol disappeared from high school for 4-5 months before Trig was born--she supposedly had mononucleosis. But mono clears the system in 3-4 WEEKS. Wasilla High students say that they saw Bristol in a pregnant state during her school absence. Bristol was given three traffic citations while out of school, supposedly laid low by mono.
Meanwhile, Sarah goes to TX to a governors' conference on an airplane when was supposedly 8 months pregnant--AFAIK, a big no-no for a pregnant woman. By her own recount, she realizes that her water is breaking on the morning of a speech she's supposed to make. Sarah claims she cleared it with her doctor to give the speech--and did so HOURS later. She then GOT ON A PLANE AND FLEW BACK TO ALASKA TO GIVE BIRTH. I've seen estimates of that flight time range from 5-10 hours--someone help me out here. None of the flight attendants noticed her looking pregnant or uncomfortable. Newspapers covering the story when it happened quoted the attendants who remembered Sarah Palin as being extremely pleasant, not observably pregnant...and in no discomfort.
Palin lands in Anchorage but does not go to an Anchorage hospital specializing in premature births--yes, Trig was one month early as well as Down's Syndrome. She drives back to Wasilla to give birth, but Trig's name doesn't show on records there for children born on April 18.
Does it matter in the end? Well, it shows that Sarah was ready to go through an elaborate deception. It makes me trust her a lot less. It makes me think that she TOLD her daughter to carry the child to term. I think that if this rumor is true, it'll sink Palin's VP shot.
But guess what: all the issues affecting YOU AND ME remain unchanged. Unemployment, recession, inflation, shocking food and gas prices, two wars without end, an erosion of our civil liberties, a collapsing health care system, global warming, tax cuts for the rich, declining real incomes...feel free to add to the list.
The Palin soap opera doesn't change any of that. It's just another reason to avoid the McCain and Company like the plague. The Palins and their children show that McCain used poor judgment in picking Palin. If Palin has lied to the public about Trig, she should go. But ultimately, the matter conceals the real fact that McCain is too old, out of touch and unstable to lead this country. He'd be lucky to live out his second term.
