Re: "The people at the convention were mean to her and did run up to her to embrace her when she's wearing her Hillary button. Obama, she said, has to "earn" her vote."
That woman clearly feels marginalized. I think it would help if Obama on Thurdsay makes a direct appeal to the 18 million people who voted for Hillary by saying something like "We share the same values, you are part of this movement, and we need your energy and your committment so that we can all move forward together." Surrogates can only do so much. He has to close the deal.
And as a journalist, it's unprofessional of you
to ask me to take you on faith.
The media narrative that the Dems are split and
has been repeated endlessly and seems utterly
unsupported by any compelling evidence or facts.
See Eric B over at Media Matters for
a fact or two, if you don't like taking
jounalist's by there word. When Howard Fineman
says, "This isn't being invented by the Press
Core", I know enough to translate "This
is being invented by the Press Core."
I love Hillary. At 63, I get the idea of wishing to see a woman in the White House. But I am at a loss to understand how anyone who loves her would choose to elect a man who is her complete antithesis. It seems to me to be a slap in Hillary's own face, proving that some of her followers are simply voting for a WOMAN (or a woman who has been hurt by .. a man, a lifetime, unfairness) and have no deep caring for what she stands for. Hillary did not run for President based on how unfair she thought she'd been treated, as a woman.
She (and Obama) stand for getting our economy straightened out, fighting terrorism in something approaching sensible ways (on turfs that make sense), fighting for women's rights to make their own choices, getting healthcare and social security straightened out, and the list goes on and on. In every important matter, Obama and Clinton work for the SAME thing, which is the polar opposite of McCain.
Frankly, I lack sympathy for people who call themselves Hillary fans, who would vote for McCain rather than Obama. They do much like all Bush lovers do ... vote with their guts (oh, he is SOOO sincere!) rather than their brains. And I am sick to death of a president who doesn't have the brains to understand (or FIND OUT ABOUT)economics or reality in the war! Which is what McCain stands for.
To me, being a Hillary fan means fighting alongside her. Voting McCain should never be considered anything but a slap in her face.
"He has to close the deal."
He already has closed the deal, for sensible adults. For overgrown babies who cannot think outside of their little emotional crap, there is no deal to be closed.
he has appeared with Clinton supporters. He has asked them for their vote. He has come on bended knee.
But for the Hillary dead end wacks, there is no closure.
The reasons are probably 3:
1) Many of them are simply racists
2) Many of them are simply resentful and stupid
3) Many of them are Repukeliscumian trolls
Obama is the nominee. It is time for adults to act like adults, for them to come to their own conclusion, and most importantly, to STOP THE FUCKING WHINING.
Obama won, fair and square. Hillary lost, due to her own failures and the lack of competent hires that she made. It is clear, in retrospect, that she is a very poor manager, and this more than anything caused her to lose.
Obama will ask in a mature way for those who believe in the Democratic ideals that he represents to vote for him. He will ask respectfully. I know that he will not beg, which is what these PUMA clowns want.
But why, o why couldn't she have acknowledged that nobody stole the nomination from her.
Probably for the same reason that she didn't acknowledge that the world is round.
I ask this seriously--did you vote for George Bush in the last two elections? Your style seems a little Limbaugh inspired.
I'm glad you're voting for Obama (if you are) but disrespecting members of your own team is no way to win a game.
If you're on the team stop attacking so-called Pumas and use your energy to attack McCain...
I'm just making the observation that she would be stronger than him in the general.
According to public records of campaign donation history, PUMA co-founder Darragh Murphy donated nothing to Hillary Clinton, but did donate money to McCain's campaign in 2000. I couldn't find a donation by co-founder Will Bower to Hillary, either.
Most media is taking PUMA ranting at face value ~ especially FOX "News". Yet, who are these folks exactly, especially the leaders? I cannot find any detailed investigation of this organization.
Anyone remember Rush's "Operation Chaos" concept? I suspect these people are Republican operatives, since they don't resemble Democrats at all.
If you think this is all workin' to some productive avail, for all I'm really concerned, you can just keep on chasin' your own tail.
I have never, not even once (to my knowledge), voted, at any level from school board to president, for anything other than a Democrat. Never, not even once. At the local level, it's hard to tell at times, but like I say, to my knowledge.
So, no, I'm more than a yellow-dog dem. I'm a totally committed democrat, as many who grew up watching Nixon and his gang of fascist thugs became.
I am a Democrat.
Thanks for asking.
Clinton looked great and sounded terrific, it only she'd directly addressed the elephant in the room (carefully chosen metaphor!) with a comment like, "We've all heard about the PUMAs, but make no mistake - people withholding support from Barack Obama and the Democratic Party because they're unhappy with my losing the nomination are hurting me and all the causes I support, including women's rights.
She probably didn't address them because she knows that they're not an elephant, even though MediaCorp carefully positions their cameras to make the mouse look like an elephant.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
