My six-year-old daughter and I were strong Hillary Clinton supporters, largely because of my daughter's desire to see a "girl" as president. When Hillary conceded, I explained that it was time for us to move on and support Barack, since he is the candidate who most closely adheres to Hillary's (and the Democratic party's)principles.
This morning, my daughter saw part of Hillary's convention speech on one of the morning programs. "Mommy," she said. "If she's not running for anything any more, why is she still talking?"
Fair question.
It's time to be Big Girls, children. We have an election to win.
This is your "hand of friendship"?
I'll bet you just lost half of the people reading this who were ready to get behind Obama.
Way to destroy any gain Hillary might have given your cause last night. And way to demonstrate why we won't be falling in line.
"I'll bet you just lost half of the people reading this who were ready to get behind Obama."
You're a GOP troll, and whatever you say is just crap.
Go back and report to John McManyHouses. You have no place here.
I thought Hillary was crystal clear:
The country cannot afford more Bush/McCain/Republican policies.
Campaign hard and vote for Obama.
There is no hidden message... no other meaning in her speech. If there were, then all the idiotic meme of the MSM would be correct about her, and I don't think it is.
I really don't know what else she can do to convince everyone she is 100% for Obama with no ulterior motives or hidden messages.
O dear Lord, save me from this pantsuit-fetishist and her husband, their galactic scale egos, and their cultists. Save me from the actual nominee, who is building a temple from which to address us all while handing the damned Republicans a monumental satirist's delight. Save me from Bush, McCain, and Liebermann. Is there no hope anywhere?
Thanks for contuing to make it so easy for me to refrain from voting for a Democratic president for the first time in my life.
"I really don't know what else she can do to convince everyone she is 100% for Obama with no ulterior motives or hidden messages."
Well, it comes down to the level of conversation. With the Hillary dead end wack jobs, they are either GOP trolls like whitecat or they are simply working from the reptile brain level. They are not rational.
Hillary made a clear and convincing argument. She clearly stated that she is 100 % on board with Obama, and that we cannot afford a Republican president at this time.
This has not altered the comments of many of the Hillary dead enders. Thus, I no longer believe that they can be moved. They are not thinking any more, just reacting at the animal or child level.
It's amazing to think that 40 years of feminist advances are going to be destroyed by these people. That's the end result of course - the destruction of feminist power in the Democratic Party. They do not seem clear about this, but that is true.
Windhover, I trust you were smart enough to explain to your daughter that Hillary Clinton was still talking because Barack Obama asked her to.
If I wasn't convinced of it before--I'm convinced of it after the big girl panties comment.
Meanwhile the BBC is pointing out that the US may be making the problem in Georgia worse by seeming to promise help that we cannot provide.
Eight years of mismanaged Republican rule and Democrats have found a way to blame eachother (it's Hillary's fault! No it's Barack's fault!) endlessly while the crooks in charge are just sitting on their heels with big grins on their faces.
Ridiculous. When will it ever not be like this in our country? I was so disappointed in 2004 that this country could have allowed GWB a second term...now we are the verge of offering him a third one....
If McCain is elected, I will never have been so ashamed of my country. The Republicans found a way of insisting Hillary didn't state in so many words that Obama is ready to lead? What do so many words consist of? I heard her say he was ready to lead when she stated how proud she was to be supporting him for the presidency.
ugh.
and by the way--John McCain is not read to lead--no person who cannot keep the sunni and shia straight is ready to lead--no one who considers GWB correct on the issues is ready to lead--no one who is not willing to admit the mistakes of the past eight years and was willing to vote to help privatize social security along with the Republicans is ready to lead....
nuff said.
I can't believe the vitriol still raging between the Clinton and Obama camps -- and in the middle of their own convention no less. For the first time, it's clear to me that John McCain will be the next president of the United States.
(That would be John Irving's "Garp" EJS, not the indie rock band.)
retire the phrase "big girl panties?" That became tired in about its second week of popularity.
because unlike HRC, Kerry, and Gore, Obama has "had a voice" from day one. It took humiliating defeats for the the other three to act, look and speak like a president. Gone was the harsh tone of her voice and robotic delivery we all heard during the primaries (although she still needs work on cadence).
Kudos to HRC for a great speech, but maybe, just maybe, if she was a more effective manager of her own campaign and message, she would be the one speaking Thursday night instead of Obama.
I believe the phrase was "NO WAY, NO HOW, NOBAMA!". A phrase that clinton considered using during the primary. And I must say, it is a fine phrase! Seems there is a subliminal tag line clinton is sending out. :)
And I most heartily agree.
I could not have been more delighted that Clinton spoke to the issues that we as Americans care about, rather than giving another rousing autobiography of the Obamas and how they are a) humans (lucky Michelle Obama who gets to prove that she is human by giving a speech...presumably non-humans don't speak nearly so eloquently) and b) that they really do love their country despite the legacy of racism that still pervades swaths of this country's history (and present) we are all still a part of.
Autobiography is lovely and it's fun--but Democrats need to win this year by speaking to the issues. Like them or love them, the Clintons have a way of framing complex issues into populist message form...I'm looking forward to a rousing populist message from Bill tonight (although I hope the rivalry between he and barack can be subsumed beneath his wife's plea for no way, no how, no mccain...)
