you can ask anyone actually on law review at harvard, columbia etc., if race is a factor and they will confirm this.
It is too bad Marx was ruined for everyone by the totalitarians (on both sides).
Can you rail about legacies too please? Or the children of CE0s? Because you're selectivity is making you look like a bigot.
And you never DID answer my question about who IS a "worthy" black person. Are there ANY? How is it you can tell?
I was never comfortable with it, didn't like it 30 years ago and don't like it now. But I can't help but think about what Chris Rock said: ".. affirmative action is like being sent to college by the Uncle that molested you..".
I feel ya!
hHatchett must not have seen the letter from Mister Buck (l0:34 a.m) headed "The Children of the Opressors (sic) declare" in which everything was colour-related. The liars are the politicians who promise the world at the beginning of a campaign and, when the going gets tough, go back on every word they ever said because ambition overrides principle. Think about it!
Everything I've written here about Obama (including the shafting of George Ryan and Blair Hull in Chicago), as well as what I've said about Joe Biden can be CHECKED. Wikipedia has its limits but it provides the bare bones in an impartial way. So far, Obama supporters have questione my sobriety (in terms of alcohol and drugs), my nationality, my intelligence, my mental competence and now my integrity. Well, I can say I never lied about my scholastic achievements (as Biden did) and I never cheated in an exam. (as Ted Kennedy did in Harvard). I'm not one to give personal histories either about my impoverished ancestors (like Biden) or how they, the ones who didn't have the money or opportunity to go to the New World, survived starvation through sheer courage and determination. The hatchet-job has called me a liar but I'm not asking anyone to take my word on Joseph Kennedy snr., on Obama's serendipity in Chicago in regard to Ryan and Hull, and, of course, Ted Kennedy's real character while coat-tailing on the reputation of his two elder brothers. This is the Information Age (that's how Biden was caught out plagiarising a powerful speech from Neil Kinnock, at that time leader of the British Labour Party). It's even easier now to check out the truth about important people and I suggest that you do before maligning me, Mr./Ms.hHatchett.
sorry, there's been so much crap lodged my way that i can't possibly respond to all of it.
it makes no sense to ask me who i think is a "worthy" "beneficiary" of a program that i have said is unjust, unfair and shouldn't be in place. it's as if i said: i think the death penalty is wrong, unfair and unjust, and you ask: but who do you think is a worthy beneficiary of the death penalty? and i say: oh excuse me, the man who ate too much pudding and then killed his parents.
i think only merit and aptitude should be considered in filling slots in school, business and government.
I agree re: Marx.
But then again I say this as the kind of guy who has Soviet leader matryoska (Russian nesting) dolls on his bookshelf...so...ya know...take what I say with a grain of salt ;)
p.s. you wouldn't be able to point me in the direction of some authors who write about that particular brand of feminism (is it considered Marxist feminism? Corporatist feminism?) would you? I'm always looking to curry some favour with the girlfriend! ;)
You seem to think that ALL successful black people are beneficiaries of affirmative action. Even your non-reply carries out that assumption.
Do you know that there ARE black people who are every bit as qualified? How do you know that Michelle Obama isn't one of them?
I don't know for sure. I can make an educated guess based on my experiences at an ivy league college, a top 5 law school, statistics, studies, etc. It would help if they would release their LSAT scores, which they won't do.
But I would know for sure that michelle obama was every bit as qualified as everyone else at princeton, etc., if there were NO SUCH THING as affirmative action. and then you would know for sure too, and we wouldn't have to wonder if it played a role in her accomplishments.
You know who AA hurts the most? Asians and Jews. Do you think its fair that asian and jewish students with top scores get rejected from schools so that lesser qualified students can take their place? It's totally racist and wrong.
Obviously there wasn't so much wrong with the largely Republican administrations under which Michelle and Barak grew up that prevented them and their families from living the American Dream, right up to the DNC. Obviously enough opportunity was spared the working man in the "world as it is" that it didn't require saving and restoration to the "world as it should be" by the likes of Barak and Biden. Obviously their lives and professed histories belie their politics and professed mission.
That paragraph has to rank as some of the flabbiest and most insipid analysis I've ever seen on this site. Republican trolls, even the most blockheaded, are usually capable of far better.
ah yeah, but why aren't you (and joan walsh) taking some responsibility of feeding fuel to the fire? by the endless attention you gave them on Salon, by the inane joan walsh blog posts...
this is the reason people said a long primary was a bad thing.
you can apply my past letter to traizer's PUMA article.
nevermind.
Ms. Traister praises the speeched lilt and cadence and claims that Ms. Obama is a highly-capable public speaker. I assume that Ms. Traister suspended her regularly scheduled critic's ear--Ms. Obama's speech was plastic, transparent, and heartfelt only by dint of stage direction. Her presentation was too practiced and studied; her cadence was as scripted as a May Day Red Square march, designed to show off goodness and light rather than military potency. I've no doubt that Ms. Obama is a whip-smart and sign-savvy woman, but Ms. Traister might at least try to pretend to objectivity while she backstrokes in the Obamas' bathwater.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
