but the fire-engine is out immediately with the water-gushers if you don't genuflect to the Obamas and their over-emotional supporters. Half of Hollywood wears wigs/hair extensions and Madonna's long tresses have needed more than natural encouragement. Maybe I was being sexist in not paying enough attention to wig-wearing, hair-plugged, hair-extended men. A sore point I'm sure.
I agree that Ms. Obama's speech was brilliant, moving and pitch-perfect. I thought, how could anyone criticize *that*?
And then I did something I NEVER do.
I turned on Fox News. The pundits all sneered and yawned and agreed with each other that her speech was mediocre at best. They leeringly noted that the speech was absent of policy points. They pointed out that she never talked about religion and they jumped on the fact that while she said they both went to university, she didn't say that they were "Ivy League" universities! (this was a big gotchya moment; as though this shameful secret was something she needed to hide...).
As the cherry on top, during their discussion Fox was doing split screen shots of the crowd. They were struggling to find the craziest looking dancing audience members wearing zany hats. They went out of their way to make it look less like a political convention and more like a stoner reggae-fest.
My point is, the large and pervasive world out there in Fox Land tells a much different story. Let's not lose sight of the fact that we have a long way to go.
Binah and your ilk...Why must you always bloviate on and on about censoring the board...If you want a bunch of parroting Obamaheads start your own friggen blog, board or whatever...Let the big kids hash it out...

I am part of the great white middle America you talk about. I wasn't one bit fooled by this phony nonsense. I give her, as well as the occasion the credit she and it are due, that is kudos to the man and his family for the hard work and persistence of the last 2 yrs.
But Michele Obama as First Lady......the Marxist, America-hating firebrand who puts down her husband in public. And the phony messiah Mr O makes himself out to be???

I can see why you'd object to this subscriber's concerns. You poison the well and say some might like the poison.
Watching this speech all I could think about was the possible millions of people across the country thinking themselves that maybe just maybe Michelle and Barak aren't lying to us. Maybe just maybe they really are genuine. Maybe just maybe we should give them a chance and let them have their best attempt at bringing America back to what it was. We know what America is supposed to look like and maybe just maybe Barak and Michelle can bring it home.
I believe in these people. Not since discovering Bob Dylan have I ever believed in a public figure but I believe in the Obamas.
And for the first time ever I think I admire a beautiful woman purely as a role-model and not a sex symbol. (I know that's terrible but I feel I had to say it.)

OK, so I know this post will be ridiculed, but I can't help it.
I am so excited to think that my president and his wife are still madly in love with each other, still flirt, still make eyes at each other in ways that everybody can see comes from deep love and understanding. They clearly challenge each other, match each others' intellect, compassion, ambition and style.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a sexy couple in the white house? (Both of em, not just the man, like the Clintons).

Michelle Obama and her family will do the work necessary to take our country to a better place around so many issues, most importatly, race.
She gets it, and she and her daughters are lovely.
Barack married well.
People talk about her as his rock, not in the manner that Nancy Reagan was to Ronald, but in a different, more substantive and ultimately more independent manner.
She gave a nice speech. I could give a fuck. Nothing will change. Same as it ever was. That's not snooty or cynical. That's realistic.
