¡Viva Obama!

In Denver, a group of Latino voters show why they may hold the key to power for Democrats in the West.

The letters thread is now closed.

Given McCain's Betrayal

It surprises me that this is even in Debate.

McCain has done everything in his power to pander to xenophobic whites to get where he is, obviously that leaves Hispanics no home in the republican party.

I have to say, Obama's best effort to win the Hispanic vote is nothing compared to the effort McCain has put forth to lose it.

Viva indeed

I luv it.

Couple this with the "ground game" in states like OH, FL, PA, CO, IN and we'll have a winner. Obamaistas are registering new voters by the thousands in these and other states.

They and Moveon also plan and a huge get out the vote drive.

Must get rid of these Busheviks and their ilk if we're to keep our Republic.

Viva Obama

The friction between blacks and Hispanics in western and southwestern States is negligible. I wonder how Hispanics will vote in States where blacks greatly outnumber Latinos and are part of the status quo? If Obama wants to win the Hispanic vote, he better explain how he differs from the scowling, nasty person at the MVA in Washington, DC, Newark, Detroit, etc.

Richardson?

Obama missed a real opportunity by not choosing Bill Richardson as his running mate. For those of you who live on the coasts, he is the very popular democratic governor of New Mexico. He also held cabinet posts in the Clinton administration and has lots of foreign policy experience. His also Hispanic (half Caucasian, half Mexican).

Choosing Richardson would have given him a huge percentage of the Hispanic vote. He would win New Mexico in a landslide and possibly Arizona and Colorado as well (rural southern Colorado has a large Hispanic population). Plus, Richardson has nearly as much foreign policy cred. as Biden, but without the baggage and the decades long voting record to pick apart. He also has a good, moderate policy on immigration. No one who lives east of Pennsylvania has any idea who Biden is...

I think Obama missed a chance here.

Obama

I think Obama should campaign more in the West. There is a tendency to think that surrogates (Richardson, Hillary) can win over the groups of voters that Obama lost in the primary, but Obama has to make the pitch himself. So far, I have not seen Obama spend much time in the West. Even last night, he was in Kansas.

Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado combined have 19 electoral votes, which is more than Michigan(17), Missouri (11), Minnesota (10), and Wisconsin (10), and Virginia (13).

I think Obama could easily win over Western states, but he actually has to visit them, and not just ASSume that people there will automatically vote for him because they're afraid of Republicans. If they're ignored, they might stay home.

Salon readers would be the first to complain

If Obama were to seriously entertain the socially conservative Catholic Latino agenda.

Obama

The majority of Latino voters are Democrats and have been for decades, so that makes no sense. There is no conservative Latino Catholic agenda. Secondly, Obama seems to have no problem pandering to evangelicals, and plans to continue funding Bush's faith based programs.

No chance

Most Mexicans will not vote for a black person. The only ones who will are the far left loonies in LaRacist/LaRaza. Marxism cuts across all ethnic lines.
