Joe Biden steps up for Obama

The energized vice-presidential candidate uses Saturday's rally to chain John McCain to George W. Bush and propel the Democratic ticket toward the convention.

The letters thread is now closed.

Great choice, because...

1) he voted for the Iraq war. This is not bad like when Hillary did. Get it?

2) He voted for the bankruptcy revision that was designed by the credit card companies to help themselves at the expense of the little guy. How Democratic (big D) can you get?

3) He helped enact the Biden Law. You've heard of it right? Also, many other sterling statutes during his 35+ years in the Senate.

4) He has vast executive experience, just like Obama.

5) He comes highly recommended. Remember who said he has a higher IQ than a random voter asking him a question?

6) Finally, he's change we can believe in.

Voting for Iraq not a sin

Remember, please, back then, that we all felt at least somewhat obliged to support our president...

And we (we includes Biden) did not know yet what an evil over-the-top lying, unconcerned killer our president was. At that time, nobody imagined that any president ever could be so irrational in such an evil way.

We did not believe any president would lie so flagrantly, so that we tended to believe him at the time. And afterward, we could not imagine how little any president might care about the truth, his victims, and us.

W. Bush still skates away, far ahead, on our drop-jawed incredulity. Biden is no worse than we are. Is he any better?

not all of us were fooled

by the evil-doings of George W.! I, and most of the people in my community that I had extensive dialog with in the build-up to the Iraq war, saw clearly the lies that were being perpetrated on the American people- and the world.

I think it was beyond bad judgment to support Bush's inanity!

However- I like Biden and what he brings to the table-- most importantly (IMO) is experience. Foreign policy experience, and Washington insider experience.

Good judgment- yet again- Barack!

@Timbuktom

Plagarism, is that the worst you can come up with?

I love how Repubs try to play manly all the time (I'm related to all-too-many of them so I know) yet flaunt pink-hankie transgressions like this in your face.

"No Lapel Pin!"

"Funny Name!"

"Knew a radical when he was a kid!"

and now....(snare drum roll):

"Plagerism! Um, 20 years ago, but PLAGERISM!"

And as to:

"It's going to become more and more apparent to voters that the experience and knowledge needed to be president is not at the top of the [Democratic] ticket," commented one Republican operative.

OTOH, when Dick Cheney picked himself to be VP, the word was: "gravitas. He has the gravitas Shrub lacks. That's a good thing, see?"

Pointing out such blatant contradictions may even get through a rightie's thick skull, you never know until you try.

Voting for Iraq was/is a "sin"

It's clear that most Senators either didn't do their due diligence, or ignored the facts for political reasons. It's pretty clear now that the top level of the executive branch cooked the intelligence. Our system depends on checks and balances. Biden didn't vote like Byrd, Chaffee, and Stephanie Tubbs Jones to name a few. At least he acknowledged his mistake, which is more than I can say for McCain. But it was a mistake, and an extremely costly one.

Obama-Biden

Just watched both speeches from Springfield today on the web. Happy days are here again--I feel it. Biden is going to bring a lot of energy and humor to Obama's campaign.

The lack of specificity from Obama during the primary drove me nuts. From Joe Biden, I've already gotten more reasons for supporting Obama than I heard during the primary. These two guys seem like they will work together very well.

I keep hearing what a brilliant guy Obama is. The Biden choice gives me concrete proof!

I had the wonderful experience of caucusing for Hillary Clinton during a blizzard on February 5 in Wichita, Kansas. I see her great instruction at work in the Obama-Biden ticket: You need to connect with voters over the issues that affect real lives.

This Hillary supporter is going to be happy to vote for the Obama-Biden ticket, and I'm looking forward to the Hillary Clinton Universal Health Care Bill becoming law under President Obama.

Obama/Biden ticket in huge trouble

Obama is crashing and burning! The forced shouting, the new hair frosting, and the incessant harping on McCain's houses is pathetic and predictable. There isn't anything new about Obama except his morally bankrupt position on babies who survive botched abortions. Thanks for finally admitting to what you actually did, Barack! Obama is obviously graying his hair (or just not coloring it anymore) to create a look of experience because his mouth has informed us over the last couple of weeks that he has precious little real experience. And the best his running mate can do when he gets the mic is keep harping on McCain's houses! Brilliant! This doesn't look very much like a new kind of politics.

Plagiarism and Christian heresy

Honest to goodness, my friends, dim Americans confuse plagiarism with Pelagianism. Dim Americans do not know what either word means, but Pelagianism is a (debatable) Christian heresy from about 500 CE, and the word has an odious odor for many thick-of-mind-and-body, never-had-an-original-thought, sons-of-the-sons-of-the-sons-of-the-pioneers-at-least-in-their-own-minds Americans.

Plagiarism is not good, but dimwits will make it worse than torture. Not knowing what the word means only makes it worse, for electoral purposes.

Good night, and good luck!

I'm thrilled with the choice of Biden

I was an early financial supporter of Biden and would have voted for him if he had still been in the race for California's primary. My differences with Biden are no greater than my differences with Obama and some of the recent positions that he has taken.

His biggest blemish seems to be the plagerism charge. My understanding is that it was a quote that he frequently used in his speeches with attribution and that they found and highlighted the one time he was captured not attributing the quote. Since plagerism has nothing to do with sex, its hard to imagine how significant it will be. (Although with the apparent intelligence level and ease with which a signicant number of Repug voters can be manipulated, I'm sure they will find some way to equate it to homosexuality or abortion.) This charge seems to me to be very similar to the charge against Gore that he claimed to invent the Internet.

We think of Obama's determination to not be influenced by special interests as a progressive position. But for Biden, that is business as usual. Obama, with questions about how he got his house, doesn't come close to the standard set by Biden. The reason that I have more assets than Biden (other than my retirement is in a 401k and IRA rather than a pension) is that he has never taken special interest money. Try that for 35 years in the Senate.

I am willing to have politicians in office that I do not always agree with, provided they are smart, willing to listen to all stakeholders when making a decision, don't have a hidden agenda or are beholden to special interests, and that they have integrity when it comes to "doing what is right".

I am more concerned with restoring democracy in this country than in any single decision. That means reasserting that politicians serve at the pleasure of citizens, that we are a country of laws, that we are not owned by special interests, that there is accountability in government, that we take back running this country from the contractors who are unaccountable to us, and that we restore integrity to our media.

I want leaders who will improve our educational system and reteach our citizens that education should not teach someone what to think but rather, how to ask questions and learn and to think for themselves. That listening to multiple points of view and analyzing them is an obligation of a participant in a democratic society and not a sign of weakness and most certainly not an anti-American act.

I want politicians who will restore quality and integrity to our government agencies with leaders like Joe Wilson and Richard Clarke. How will we get rid of the anti-American, anti-democratic infiltrators and convince skilled people of integrity to join the government.

I don't know of anything in Biden's background to indicate he would be anything but an asset in meeting the requirements that are most important to me.
