I'm not sure if you are a serious poster or not because you have only written two letters--but giving you the benefit of the doubt your point is an interesting one to me.
My parents are Republicans who have voted single issue (at least my mother) because of the abortion issue for many election cycles. But this cycle presents a new challenge for my mother's position for three reasons:
1. abortions decreased under Clinton, not under Bush. why? Because Clinton had more family structured benefits that may have increased women's economic power to keep their babies/and or get adequate health care. Anyway, it's an interesting idea why abortions didn't go down under Bush since he is pro-life.
2. Obama, as I'm sure you know, has changed his position on late term abortions which is more in keeping with the actual roe v. wade ruling. He stated that his issue with the bill you mention was that it made no exception for the health of the mother--which is a concern of some in the pro-life as well as the pro-choice movement.
3. McCain is an older candidate so his choice of vp may be very important if he does not run for a second term, or if he has any health problems. If he chooses a pro-choice running mate (as he seems to be promising some of the women who carli fiona or whatever her name is--who is pro-choice and heading up former Clinton supporters who are now moving to McCain--but are also pro-choice) then is it safe for you to vote for a ticket that may be only partially on your side on this issue depending on who McCain selects as his running mate?
And/or even if they are on your side of the abortion issue--what do you have to say about abortion not decreasing under Bush where there was a clear Bush/Cheney both sides committed pro-life ticket? (I thought that Rick Warren, in not addressing this issue, failed his supporters...)
I'm just wondering. One last item--as a person who owns zero houses, I don't consider the house comments to be completely irrelevant. Also, don't you remember in 2004 how Republicans were calling John kerry a gigolo for marrying a rich heiress and living off of her wealth? Does not what goes around, come around? Or are there different standards applied to political candidates based on their political party?
Just wondering.
