I was surprised to read the comment that "most" Clinton supporters have moved on, although I suppose 52 percent does constitute a majority.
But when it's said only a "small army" of Clinton supporters have not, I've never heard more than 8 million people described as a small group before
It'll be Biden, but big deal it's vice president. I can't get hot over vice president. It'll be a flea circus here tommorow when the news is released. I'm really amused at how holding their seat everybody is over this. Biden's okay with me, but if burnt bridges are everybody's bold point to make in the wake - whatever. Fat Tuesday's not even here yet, roll out the floats.
...they'd at least chip in a couple of dollars each to pay off her campaign debt.
A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal national poll found that Obama has won the support of only 52 percent of former Clinton backers, with 27 percent still undecided (or opting for minor-party candidates) and 22 percent saying that they prefer McCain.
Assuming for a moment that the poll can be extended to all people who voted for Hillary with some reasonable margin of error (and let's include MI and FL) I don't see how you get to 8 million votes from there, unless you include the 27 percent undecided. By virtue of the fact that they are self identified as undecided that probably means they are not in a 'Hillary for VP or else' state of mind. So right now the hard core folks are around 4 million or less.
Personally, I think Obama should do what he can to show all former Hillary supporters why it is in their own self interest to vote for him. If he's worth his salt, he'll be able to do just that. I also understand that some people won't be reached, for whatever reason.
I take a away a different lession from the Edward Kennedy v. Jimmy Carter convention dustup. Sure one guy was able to persue his own self interest at the expense of his fellow like minded citizens and not suffer the consequences over the long term. But he helped create an opening that allowed a skilled opponent to shift the entire political viewpoint of the country against his party for decades. Only now is there an opportunity to shift back the balance of power. I don't think that was a good trade. Maybe Teddy should have fallen on his sword instead.
Earlier this year the Clintons released a financial statement about how much they're worth - 109 million dollars.
Half the Democratic Party, juneausmog? 18 million die hard Hillary supporters? Hillary's debt could have been paid off so much sooner if only her die hard supporters (not the ones that maxed out after $2,300) but you know, the ones who could have at least given her a couple of dollars would have saved her the great embarassment of still being in debt - imagine the Clintons having to dip into their meager savings of $109 million.
I don't think they can afford to rain on Obama's convention. Their 18 million (a myth that Keith Olberman quickly exposed - you know, numbers and the Clintons have a strange relationship - even rules - remember Florida and Michigan) has dwindled down to less than 40,000, a mere drop in the bucket of Clinton groundswell. When they tried to strongarm Obama into giving Hillary a VP spot with the VoteBoth campaign, all they could muster was 40,000 signatures.
Hopefully, the Clintons will behave and get behind the candidate. Not doing so, will jeopardize her Senate seat come re-election.
Did any one of you dig deep into your pockets to help Hill out with her capaign debt?
Silent as a tomb.
The reason the GOP hates Bill is because he attacked the racists in Arkansas without mercy, telling the man, Jim Johnson, who pressured Orville Faubus into his hard-line stance to keep blacks out of Little Rock High: "You make me sick; I'm ashamed you're from Arkansas." That man, after finally giving up on electoral politics (he tried to become governor), in some measure because of Bill Clinton, retired to his home which he named White Haven. Clinton also made sure the legal system in Arkansas was rid of the vestiges of racism. When Clinton ran for president, national GOP figures came down to meet with Johnson and other racist Clinton haters in Arkansas. One such national figure was Floyd Brown who did the Willie Horton ad for Bush I that helped take out Dukakis. All these men got together and tried to politically assassinate Clinton.
The GOP hates Hillary because she was on the House committee that investigated the impeachment charges against Nixon and because she is an uppity woman.
Also Clinton taxed the rich to get rid of the Reagan budget deficit, and, of course, he won 2 elections and everyone knows the White House belongs to the GOP.
The rank and file just mindless follow the leader and hate the Clinton's because their leaders told them to--that's why they have no reasons, or falsehoods, to offer in interviews.
PS The suffering caused the Clinton's by the Arkansas racists who hated them for their staunch support of civil rights is why Bill is so mad at Obama for saying that he, Bill, played the race card, was a racist.
"No, the old GOP hate talk against Hillary was that she was the living incarnation of Satan, Stalin, and Hitler and had some hidden death squad knocking off rivals while plotting some grand socialist utopia.
The rest of us realized that she was untrustworty, divisive, phony, etc from actually watching her career over the years. We weren't blinded by Bill Clinton as the great and shining star leaving his wife to fill some great political dynasty. Just because the Right Wing attacked Hillary doesn't mean she automatically qualifies as a Saint, nor does it mean that half the party follows in lock-step with the Clintons.
If anything look beyond the insular world of petty party rivalries to see where the election will really be decided.

"The rest of us" you mean those section of the Democratic party who all of a sudden because of Obama realized that the Senator from New York, the former first lady who senate colleagues hold in high regard, is now "untrustworthy, divisive and phony." Wow, how was she able to pull more than 18 million voters equal to Obama, the rock, perfection incarnated and more than 10 times Biden his obvious choice for V.P?
I have said it over and over again that I hope the VP decision fulfills Obama's wishes and puts him into the white house because, it will be devastating to have the Republicans again in the white house. Now that Hillary has been cast aside for the VP choice, can you guys lay to rest any blame game against Clinton should Obama unfortunately lose? What else can she do? She was gracious in her acceptance speech, she has campaigned more than any of those who campaigned against Obama for the nomination. Can you now cut this "divisive, untrustworthy and phony" Democrat who had raised millions for Democrats and the party some slacks?
The media, the beltway boys have now got their wish, with Biden, as they always do in proposing the Democrats nominee let us see how this pan out.I hope all of you Obama supporters in the interest of party unity tone down this anti-Hillary rhetoric and the idotic arrogance before it is too late. Remember, Hillary supporters are not phony and this crap about them supporting an untrustworthy and phony candidate is sure to inflame passions and can be a long road to the white house.
