WHY SO QUIET?

I'm sure it's just an oversight, but the estrogen-soaked minds at SALON have been conspicuously silent about John McCain's statement regarding reactivating the draft. I am stunned at the number of women who have cried SEXISM on the most trivial issues. Yet, it has never occured to them that the selective service laws are, in fact, the ONLY laws that apply solely to one gender. But, even the most ardent "feminist" must surely have some concern about her sons, nephews, husbands and brothers being slaughtered, maimed or permanently damaged psychologically. They must be concerned even though the possibility of being forced to particpate in a war based on lies does not directly affect them. THEY MUST!

Obama Clinton McCain Blow Me

Never even bothered to read the article. Who cares? We all know that American politics is just a crock of shit. Obama is raising $55 MILLION Dollars a month. Clinton is spamming her supporters to help her with her campaign debt and the PUMAS are responding. Lord knows to what evil depths John McCain has sold his soul. The Russians are now on the verge of invading the Ukraine and retaking Poland. Will the Poles ever get a break? If Barack Obama had a soul he would donate all his campaign contributions to help re-build New Orleans. Otherwise he and Oprah are just a couple of rich Niggers with an agenda. If Hillary Clinton really cared she would be screaming her fat ass off about Health Care, about HPV and how the Pharmaceutical companies are marketing every vagina born in the last 15 years into a Love Canal crisis. Otherwise she is just a power hungry cunt waiting to squirt on the vest of some congressional page. If John McCain were still alive, he would turn the VA into a model of healthcare efficiency and extend that success to every American. Otherwise he is just another limp-dicked old fart waxing nostagic over times that are long gone and have no fucking chance of ever returning. Earth to McCain; Go Fuck Yourself. So that seems to be this year's universal campaign slogan. Go Fuck Yourself. As for myself, come November I am voting for Satan. God is Dead, the Devil has escaped, and I can't wait for all Hell to break loose.

err

"To me, the best analogy is really '92 with Bill Clinton, who, in many ways, was a more flawed candidate than Barack Obama. Certainly, on personal issues. And if you remember that year's Republican convention, the campaign was really an attack on Clinton's inexperience, and how he didn't have proper family values and what have you, and that approach didn't work because people were very worried about the direction of the country"

Nope. Bill Clinton was a three term governor, former state attourney general and Chairman of the National Governor's Association. Surely that any accusation of inexperience would not sound as convincing. On the other record Obama has no administrative experience.

@ redshooz

If it's any comfort to you, I am a feminist, I have nephews in their 20s, and I oppose a draft. Military conscription is an improper attempt to control another person's body and labor -- just like slavery.

I also oppose most restrictions on abortion for the same reason. Women also have a right to control their own bodies and determine what direction their efforts will take.

You seem to have issues with feminists. Maybe you should examine whether or not the tendency is for conservatives to attempt to control people's individual choices and for certain types of liberals to do this as well -- generally for their "own good" or for the "larger welfare" of course.

Liberals who don't believe that everything can be engineered, libertarians who recognize the value of a safety net but not the right to use force against people, and conservatives of a civil libertarian stripe all recognize that individuals count, that individuals have rights.

Feminism has little to do with this. Feminism is merely about promoting the rights of women. It is not some complicated plot to enslave men do die on the battlefield.

Also, redshooz,

some people here at Salon are not capable of reading four whole pages.

Did you read them?

@redshooz

I read about the reinstatement of the draft thing today too. Salon didn't say squat about Lieberman's scheduling to be speaking at the GOP convention either. But what did you expect? Salon isn't a parlor of ideas, it's a second rate shithouse.

Mind Boggling

I can not believe that a few days before the convention with Obama nosediving in every poll, McCain pulling ahead in every swing state, there is any question that PUMAs are DEMOCRATS.

We are NOT Republicans. In fact, we are the most loyal part of the base, the volunteers from every Democratic campaign for the last few decades, the people who max out every election cycle. We are not volatile progressives, college kids and first time voters... we are the BACKBONE of this party. And we were shown the door by it by those who had more interest in "redefining" the party in a year they thought they could get away with it. What did you think was going to happen?

I mean, my God, what is it going to take to get it through your heads, and I'm talking to you, Elaine Kamarck, that half of Clinton's supporters (per a WSJ poll today) HALF are on the verge of leaving this party for good. Why? Because the primary was rife with corruption and undemocratic behavior from the top down. You of all people should know that as you were on the RBC. May 31st was the day this party died. It was the day you lost our trust that the principles this party was founded on meant ANYTHING to those currently running it.

Let me make this clear. We are absolutely committed to saving this party from itself. We will not tolerate undemocratic elections. This must never happen again. We will not support yet another losing candidate. We will not support leadership that continues to push losing candidates on us. This will be the last year for that. We will not be "coming home" as this party in it's current state is no longer our home.

So. If this spineless party has half a brain it will cut its losses with a flawed, inexperienced candidate who will not win. Nominate Clinton and you will get the White House. Stick with Obama who is already polling far worse than Kerry or Gore and he will have the same fate.

Our only solace is knowing we have four years to purge those in this party who are responsible for this mess. We will not forget.
