    Polls schmolls

[Lovely post from matestgo: calling Nancy Pelosi the "c" word; your parents must be so proud]

Obama is not losing in the polls. Zogby is not the only pollster. Average of several polls released this week show basically a statistical tie. Zogby's was the only poll that had McCain with a 5% lead and there was another poll with Obama 5% ahead. (Source: www.electoral-vote.com) At this stage of the game polls are pretty irrelevant.

I never thought that this would be anything other than a close race. Many people are just getting to know Obama and he is reaching out to people who are traditionally ignored. This week he was in Southside Virginia (an area that's been hit hard by the poor economy and has been loosing jobs). He spoke to a mostly white crowd and his words very effectively showed that he understood their lives and he told them what steps he would take to help (e.g., tax breaks for companies that keep or create jobs in U.S. and take away tax breaks for companies that ship them overseas). By the way, no presidential candidate has visited Southside since 1955 when Ike visited!
