"Depending on the situation, serving one ethnic or racial constituency "first and foremost" could be considered racist. It wouldn't be for a member of the House of Reps whose district was primarily of that race/ethnicity. It would be for a President, who presumably is responsible for all citizens of all demographics."
But that statement was from MICHELLE OBAMA'S thesis! She is not running for public office and has never held public office. When she spoke of serving the black community, she probably meant volunteering for Black charities, donating her money to them etc. etc. Ever heard the expression "charity begins at home?" That's all she meant by saying that her first responsibility was to serve her own community.
