Get Rielle

The life of John Edwards flame Rielle Hunter has been a novel, literally, with Bolivian marching powder, movie scripts called "It's All About Uranus" and electrocuted horses.

The letters thread is now closed.

Honey, You're Too Old for Headbands

Just sayin'.

She seems like the complete antithesis of smart, stable good girl Elizabeth Edwards

Which probably is what got John attracted to her.

Basic human nature - we are tempted by that which is different from our regular experience. Of course, many of us resist such temptations, multiple times...

But sometimes - especially when you've been married for a long time - a person succumbs to that forbidden breath of fresh air.

WFT

I don't know who the hell Justin Jouvenal is (sounds like a drug addled Hunter S. Thompson wannabe without the talent) and I sure as hell don't care who Edwards F@#$ed when he was out of town as long as he wasn't spending tax payer dollars to do it.

This is nothing more than a two bit hit piece not to be confused with a piece of journalism.

Salon... this is pure crap of same variety Corsi and his right wing cronies crank out every four years. I guess this confirms that at Salon we're going to have to pick through the excrement uploaded to your site in order to discover if there are any pieces of journalism here.

You better hold onto G. Greenwald because once he's gone most people are going to have to give your half ass site a flush.

Oh, come on...

This was a fascinating profile. The press examining the "other woman" has been media SOP since the days of Evelyn Nesbit. And it was of (oddly coincidental)interest to me because I started catching up on Jay McInerney's books a few weeks back and the Hunter-inspired STORY OF MY LIFE was next on the list.

A lesser sin

Oh john E. You let so many people down, but for this piece of work? You are guilty of bad taste as well.

WHO GIVES A RAT'S ASS?!?!?!

It demeans Salon to waste space on this person.

Whatever happened to Jay MacInerny, Bret Easton Ellis and Tama Janowitz?

They wrote, what, 2 or 3 good books each, and then what?

How did John Edwards end up connected to these people?

What became of the Coma Baby?

Two words for Rielle Hunter: "Disappear here."

Oh yeah, also... "I wonder if she's for sale."

(those are lines from Ellis/MacInerny books, by the way.)

a psychological explanation for the pairing

There is a website deciever.com that has the most extensive investigation into this, and one comment on that site speculates that Hunter has borderline personality disorder, which encourages a sort of idealization of focussed-on people; and Edwards is textbook narcissistic, just as he said, I suppose (I don't think the diagnosis includes that you can recover from it!). So possibly she was idealizing him and he was, well, believing it. Good for them. I mean, I imagine they have a future. But what would someone like Elizabeth Edwards have ever seen in a narcissist? They are not (according to the descriptions I've read) good parents; in fact they are huge burdens on their children. Just don't get it.

Also, the interview with E. Edwards on this site in 2007 has her saying, "There's just a lot less investigative reporting on political campaigns than there should be."

We are to believe she really said this while covering up her husband's donation-funded affair? It's not possible is it?

I just wish some honest, decent people would run for office. Once in my lifetime.

"Sometimes a person succumbs to that forbidden breath of fresh air"

And then has a baby with that forbidden breath of fresh air, and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover it up, so as not to put a crimp in one's campaign for President of the United States of America. And incidentally, that money quite possibly includes campaign contributions.

Same old story. Yawn!

On an unrelated note: No offense, but I question the judgment of anyone who can't even spell "WTF."

Who Stole The Nookie From The Cookie Jar?

Well, the secret's out. John Edwards finally 'fessed up to his affair with Rielle Hunter.

It's not surprising that she changed her name from Lisa to Rielle. Girlfriend is grandiose, possibly even more grandiose than he is. I assumed it was short for Gabrielle.

But she pronounces Rielle as RILEY. Riley! How hideously trendy is that? She might as well have renamed herself Destiny or Madison or Brianna.

Thank goodness she named the baby Frances.

@ katandmoon

"demeans Salon"?

No kidding!

Who is the editor?

Mission accomplished?

Isn't Rielle Hunter tired of being a train wreck and punchline?

Lisa...Rielle...honey:

Enough with the coke and f*cking around and acting classes and gurus. Please try to contribute something to this world before you kick off. And no, having a politician's baby, or the politician's aide's baby, doesn't count.

Why do people like this exist? I think we can safely lump Monica Lewinsky into this category--although it seems she's moved on from wallowing in self-imposed victimhood celebrity. Where do they come from? Don't they feel guilty about all the problems and damage they inflict from their selfish, destructive behavior? Why do we give them time on TV or space in newspaper print?

I really, really wish that this country gets over its repressed fascination with sex and especially celebrity sex. Sex is a natural impulse and with precautions taken it's safe, healthy, normal and a private matter. But we go nuts when a politician's caught with dropped trou. Does playing this "gotcha" game make for better policy, elect better leaders or improve the effectiveness of our governments? Guess not.

Maybe we should all stop worrying about who's sleeping with who and Girls Gone Wild and focus on keeping our country from roaring over the goddamned cliff...

Let Google Do Your Reporting For You!

What a piece of poorly reported dreck! As we've seen elsewhere on the web, Hunter (as Lisa Hunter) did have some tiny roles in feature films, but she was never "enscounced" in the film industry.

Did Jouvenal just take a quick tour through Google and cut and paste some old stories, a new conversation with O'Brien (who spoke to Salon, but to whom?) and some blog posts together and call it work? This is really lame.
