The internet is the perfect attack line for Obama... most Americans understand (or understand the need for) fast internet. Especially the 'free market' economy, and companies (large & small). It's also a way of growing the economy that hasn't been discussed knowledgeably in years (daily show has a great piece on internet gambling 'tubes'). It also, brings up the age issue without bluntly stating it outright.
Obama has shown to be forward thinking in the use of campaign technology, it should also be his attack strategy.
Not understanding how to use technology, or, perhaps, how others might use technology, is to today's world is like not understanding the importance of the wheel to the automobile industry.
Thanks to you right-wingers who continually mock intelligent people and don't want smart people in the White House for reminding me why I will never vote for a Republican. Larry the Cable Guy for Preznit!
OK if we bury the tailings upwind from your trailer park?
I know it's not as important as say actual experience in the Federal government but we can't all have 134 hours of experience in the Senate like Obama.
Perhaps Obama would or would not 'give it all away' but it's entirely moot.
Republicans have already accomplished that with the obvious results.
Way to go, Republicans.
Since the B actor and the fake cowboy and his Dad, the CIA spook and son of a Nazi financier didn't really pan out, perhaps a fake war-hero septuagenarian panderer in the White House could finish the job.
This should be a given. The internet is not just an email tool. Knowledge of the internet & computer science & technology is vital to having a basic understanding of how the world works in the 21st century. It is inseparable from economics, politics & national security.
How can the "war" candidate not understand the role the internet & technology play in our military & defense? How can he be clueless as to the ways the enemies of this country manipulate technology to attack us & remain credible on our security?
The short answer: he's not credible. McCain is out of touch in ways that are more than just funny - his ignorance of the technological realities we live with are flat out dangerous to us all.
....Um... in this day and age.. we are fast approaching a point when computer / internet use is required for almost all non-physical labor... and a contender for the presidency is just learning about "the Google" !?!?!?
Those of you arguing that McCain should get a pass on this because he's not spending all day on ebay (as if that's what most people do on the internet / computer) are pathetic. Computers and the internet are not just some passing fads for the "kidz", they are fast becoming the foundation of global communication and commerce. In the past, leaders were lauded for their intellectual prowess and their understanding of the world around them - including new and emerging technologies... now, it's a plus if John McCain is a technological moron?
Oh how low we have sunken as a country. Really scary.
The internet is a tool. I am a retired woman of a certain age, who reads two newspapers a day, about five books a week, the Atlantic, Smithsonian and Harper's.
I also am on the internet several times a day for various types of research.
The more tools you have and use for gathering information and knowledge, the better off you are. In the case of our country, the more tools our president has for gathering information and knowledge, the better off the country is. The advantage of the internet is the accessibility and speed of information--no running down to the library or bookstore, no waiting for Amazon to deliver your book--as well as the difficulty of others to censor what you read. If a president says to his staff "Get me some books and articles about XXXX", you can be assured that the books and articles provided will be reflections of the views of the staff. The president is not going to a books store himself to leaf through the volumes.
Yes, I am a little nervous that a possibility for president is not computer literate and even more worried because he does not see that is a problem.
Oh sure poke fun at the guy who doesn't know Diesel Sweeties, Cosplay or xkcd but you lamers rarely put down the bong to get up off your Seth Rosen flabby asses to vote anyway.
You sir... are truly an idiot - yes... that's right, your posts can be found in almost every thread on this site, but yu are the one telling us to get off of our asses? You must sit here all day and just wait for the right time to post.
Get over yourself - and enjoy losing in Nov.
... this candidate for leader of the 'free' world should be running for, oh, maybe chief of staff in the military. Economics, technology, foreign affairs - they are all over his head. He will merely listen to whatever lobbyist gets his ear.
On military matters - maybe McCain has a claim to some role in the military. But certainly not except under civilian control - given his bad temper. As president, he will allow the military to run rampant. Run society. Run purchasing. It will be further militarization of the U.S. He will even believe them when they say their bombing is 'surgical' because of the swell technology they use!
Alas, the choice is between the proverbial rock and hard place...
Yes, McCain is an old fool--too old and too foolish. Many of us would have laughed at the notion that we could ever vote for him. But times change.... In these times--times when the alternative is Barack Obama--both I and my 90 year old mother (a woman who, in almost 70 years of voting, has NEVER voted for a Republican), will hold our noses (cross our fingers) and pull the lever for old, foolish John McCain. Most of our friends--in both age groups--will do likewise.
If McCain wins it reflects the electorate's Internet-phobic stance. We sell McCain and Obama campaign watches and we track the results on www.lectionwatches.com. Obama is outpacing McCain on the websales with 77% of sales. That's much greater than the difference in the polls, which could lead you to believe that one reason for the discrepancy is that McCain supporters are less likely to surf around and shop the Internet.
