When we go away from Iraq, if we never had been there, who would be fighting whom? If we never had gone in, we would not be responsible for training these guys.
Why are we in charge now? If we were not training them, they would be fighting each other less competently. Who cares? Please think about it.
Are we on the side of the Shiite terrorists or the Sunni terrorists? Which side are these Iraqi SWAT guys on? Both sides?
Beats me why any self-respecting Iraqi nationalist would be a stooge for an occupying foreign power anyway. These Iraqi collaborationists are justifiably afraid -- when (IF) US forces ever leave, they will be fair game for revenge attacks by Iraqis who didn't bend a knee to Uncle Sam.
Even though others bring up even more important points: like who would we be fighting and why would the Iraqis want to be our stooges, the bottom line remains they're wholly dependent on us.
They have no intention of breaking that cycle any time soon. Hence we're f*$&ed again. As we have been since we've set foot in that country.
It's time for them to sink or swim. Cut the cord already, they're never going to think they're prepared. Now is as good a time as any. Eventually the Iraqi Security Forces are going to have to do it on their own anyway. There's no reason for any more of our soldiers to die babysitting them any longer.
They don't even need a police force among the peaceful peaceloving people of peace of Babylonia. There won't be any crime at all after we leave.
We trained Al Qaida, the Pakistani secret service, and most recently the Georgians. Are we ever going to stop instructing our future enemies in the art of warfare?
Whenever there are news reports where Iraqis don't want us to leave now, they never ask what "now" means. Do they think we could leave in a month? Why does no one ever follow up and ask what Iraqis think of the US leaving in a year? Maybe we'd find Iraqis share the opinion of their government, that we can stay , provided we get out by the end of 2010.
I've always thought it demeaning towards Iraqis to say they would start acting responsibly once they see we're going, but I bet they would be less inclined to attack once they see we're going.
