This is big and exciting and scary. I hope to God it comes to fruition. It looks like America has a chance I thought long gone... a chance to redeem herself for her crimes against her own citizens.
Part of me can hardly wait for the blockbuster thriller movie that will be made in the aftermath of this.
Maybe the dems will show the stones that they shouldv'e shown long ago. Good to see it considered.
If some of these accusations can be proven, I hope they string the bastards up! How much freedom has been lost in the name of "patriotism"? The names of Perle, Feith, Wolfowitz, Rove, et al shall live forever..... in the sewer.
after reading the headline.
I don't care if you have film of Bush Fu%$ing the corps of Abraham Lincoln on a pile of dead babies while wearing a nazi/french maid outfit (I hear this is Larry Craig's ultimate fantasy though).
Congress and the media have to have the will and stomach to go after Bush! They have proven they do not.
As American voters our work is just starting. Just getting rid of the repuglicans that have been ruining the country is just a start. If we get do nothing Democrats in their place we are way short of where we need to be to repair the damage the right wing has wrought on this country.
Vote the bastards out if they don't prosecute these criminals.
(P.S. eggplant man and other repuglicans, that does not mean vote for repugs, it means better Democrats. The repuglican party has finally collapsed from internal rot... and the stench is sickening.)
So let's see, the most secretive US administration has been wiretapping US citizens at will. Who's doing the listening? People like Rove and his cohorts? Why not? Who are they listening to? Suspected terrorists? Members of Congress? Noted Democrats?
Is the Administration suddenly going rise about partisanship when they can tap anybody they want and not have to answer to anyone? What would those resulting dossiers look like? Gee, is blackmail a possibility? How about extortion? Impeachment off the table? A free ride on damn near everything? Some Senator's second cousin twice removed is know to be screwing goats!
Damn, SPECTRE must have won. OMG! Cheney must really be Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
just before this was leaked? Something stinks. Some Dems were giving themselves coverage. This isn't just about Republicans.
>During the Iran-Contra congressional hearings in 1987, questions to Reagan aide Oliver North about the database were ruled out of order by the committee chairman, Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye, because of the "highly sensitive and classified" nature of FEMA's domestic security operations.
Inouye = In No Way was Dan going to stir up any dust whatsoever -- he's a team player. Kind of a Pelosi forerunner. We'll just smooth it over and pretend it never happened. It's not as if Bush41 was running a government within a government or anything...
The rabbit hole that PROMIS and Inslaw reside in is fantastically deep.

Well-written and clearly well-researched. This is what journalism used to be. Now will some of you folks get off Joan Walsh's ass.
BTW Joan, this makes up for the pig articles.
yawn . . . .as if anything will ever come of this.
None of this will ever be investigated in any meaningful way. Let's remember, first off, that Bush doesn't leave office in November, but in January 2009. That gives him a good long while to draft all of the blanket pardons necessary to cover anyone who was ever remotely involved with anything that could conceivably be illegal, including himself. And he only has to worry about that if Obama wins the election.
In fact, if he were especially crafty, he'd pardon everybody involved except for key Congressional Democrats. That would guarantee the swift death of any attempt to get investigations off the ground.
The lawsuits against the telecoms was our last, best hope for bringing these issues to light, but since those are dead, there's no possibility for accountability.
McCarthy era and Watergate? The McCarthy "era" was started by a paranoid acute alcoholic who wanted an issue to gin up his campaign in Wisconsin for the U.S. Senate, so he claimed to have the names of "200 known communists" in the State Department. After a long and costly investigation it was revealed that he had nothing, just the delusional rantings of advanced alcoholism. The President, Eisenhower, was opposed to McCarthy and never supported McCarthy's wild ravings. The only reason McCarthy lasted as long as he did was because of the fear of Communism and the constant harping on that fear by the news media. Everyone was afraid of being called a traitor or disloyal. That was the "McCarthy Era".
Watergate was a case of Political Paranoia generated by the chief paranoiac himself Richard Nixon. He was on the threshold of one of the greatest election victories of all time and his paranoia moved him to the stupidity of a two bit burglary of Democratic Headquarters. The sloppy coverup that followed was the real political crime of Watergate.
Lumping 'McCarthy Era' and 'Watergate' together and comparing it to some vague abuse by the Bush Administration is sloppy work. Whatever machinations of an evil nature that may have occured can be laid at the door of the paranoid Dick Cheney.
Trying to paint the Government as a monolithic entity of evil is childish oversimplification. There may be a small group of committed zealots who populate some departments but their numbers are overwhelmed by other people in those same Depatments that are decent loyal Americans. If you want a real investigation find out how much money has been stolen by Cheney's cronies, Haliburton and the others, it is about the money and the Oil. The invasion of Iraq, all the death and destruction was motivated by money and oil, greed the simplest of human evil. Do not be mis-led by the Phantom of the NSA or some other boogey man, the culprit resides behind the door marked Vice President.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
The accountability imposed by another country for the CIA's kidnapping and torture reveals much about our own.
