Exposing Bush's historic abuse of power Salon has uncovered new evidence of post-9/11 spying on Americans. Obtained documents point to a potential investigation of the White House that could rival Watergate.

  • Who are you kidding?

Who are you kidding and how dumb do you think we are?

Looking forward to 2009, when both Congress and the White House may well be controlled by Democrats, the idea is to have Congress appoint an investigative body to discover the full extent of what the Bush White House did in the war on terror to undermine the Constitution and U.S. and international laws. The goal would be to implement government reforms aimed at preventing future abuses -- and perhaps to bring accountability for wrongdoing by Bush officials.

In other words, the idea is to allow the real criminal, President Bush, to escape unscathed and unimpeached, then put on some pathetic dog and pony show with the possibility of throwing a few scapegoats to the wolves in order to provide the masses with bread and circus. Nancy Pelosi has already made it clear that Bush will go unpunished for his high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment is off the table, remember? Why should we put any trust in any reform enacted by a Congress that has laid supine for eight years while Bush has trashed and dismantled the Constitution?

  • Makes me nervous

Talk about, in effect, putting Bush/Cheney & Co. on trial for crimes against the nation makes me very nervous. Cornered rats will do anything to save themselves and we're talking about very powerful rats. Let's just get through the election, okay?

  • @ voodooz

    d) Your potential. Our passion. (Their paranoia.)

  • The real question is who is being spyed on

People get all excited about spying. My question is what are you doing that is soooooo private? There is no shortage of those in power using or abusing their PEOPLE given power. Clinton used the FBI and their files as leverage for not being impeached. Was that in the interest of national security? Wake up America, those that hate us have finally got organized and are coming to get us. Too bad for too many years we have be saps to send aid all over the world ($48 billion to Africa for AIDS), to have sacrificed the members of our armed forces to protect freedom around the world, and let us not forget it is America that presently keeps oil flowing out of the Persian Gulf to European and Asian counties while their citizens curse us. I say lets let THEM take care of the problems and send the United Nations building to Iran. I bet ya President Bush cannot wait to get out of office and back on the farm after eight years of listening to all the whining children crying. God bless President Bush.

P.S. I have nothing to hide, but if you need to spy, go ahead!

  • A promising development, But...

I won't believe it until I see it. After all, Democrats are very busy running around, including Obama advisor Cass Sunstein, essentially saying that "political harmony" in Washington is more important than the rule of law, and pursuit of a Bush prosecution (or any members of his administration) would be blocked.

  • Bad people and getting worse!

The Cheney/bush Presidency has been an absolute disgrace. Over the past 8 years their actions have been virtually un-American; in my lifetime, even including Nixon, I don't recall an administration that has contradicted the American Way more than these crooks. Criminality should be easy to prove. They should be in jail for what they've done; the irreparable damage they've inflicted on this Country.

  • A simple choice. There are candidates for President who will pursue Progressive policies on civil rights and executive power, and apparently Barack Obama isn't one of them.

    @elefemman

when someone like elephantman sings the praise of Nader, i seriously reconsider the spoiler nametag, a nametag I have vehemently denied. the more republicans i see endorsing Nader, the more likely I am to vote Obama.

Of course, it may be the only strategy they have to beet Obama that will work... and why is that? Why would that strategy work?

    -- i_ween

I didn't endorse Nader. Or McKinney. But I challenged all of you to do that. For the simple reason that they represent your views far more closely than The Obama Show. And particularly when all of you complain that Congressional Dems are way too compromising. I just think that if Obama has abandoned your Progressive cause (he clearly has, unless you think that someday he really will do as you hope, and right now he is just lying through his teeth for purposes of the general election), you should support candidates who do care about your cause and reflect your views in their policies.

  • HUMANWINE once again provides guidance in these dark times . . .

    Big Brother

by HUMANWINE (M@ McNiss and Holly Brewer)

    Maybe you were right

    those steps behind

start and stop as you do

    Hiding out of light

    irises

    reset as you move

    Maybe in the

    bank they're watching

    At your job they're watching

    Television's watching

    what your clone is watching

    It's a blunt set up

    under Caesar's lens

and the beast is watching Everything

    Maybe you weren't off

    when you said

We're just slaving for the man

    Bred in martial law,

    veiled in plastic thought

of a secret means to ends

    Maybe big

    brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    Let 'em watch!!

    What are you gonna

    sit around and worry?

Chewing your life to its tomb

    What have you

    given up on freedom

before they've taken it from you?

    You're un

    happy and losing your mind

    You're naked

    weeping in the mall

    Shiveringly asking, "Why is

    Everyone looking at me?!"

    Arriving just in time

    Here's the men in white

blurried through your tears then you

    Roll off to rubber rooms

    With doctors watching

    and the cameras watching

    and he watched all watching!

    Even if the eye

    on pyramids

    Is keeping track of

    Your every move

    You can't contain your thoughts,

    they're all you've got

Just go and do what you do!

So what if big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    big brother is watching

    Let 'em watch!

  • Oh No, Bush Is At It AGAIN!!!!

I've read the ridiculous adolescent banter...but I didn't have to:

As soon as I read "the ACLU, the Center for Democracy and Technology, Common Cause and other watchdog groups" I knew where this Moonbat journalism was going...None of those are watchdog groups; they are advocacy groups (words mean things). I'm surprised they didn't list MorOn.org in their "sources".

The DumbasCraps have been Accusing Bush et al of civil rights abuses for almost 7 years (started in December 2001) and have LOST VIRTUALLY EVERY BATTLE!

Why is that? Because it was all fluff in order for them to regain power. The DumbassCrap assclown hordes have lapped up these accusations as fact and have been driven to drooling, simpering masses of idiocy hoping that this one can be "proven".

Good Luck. I have no doubt some libtard will "find" some super secret evidence somewhere...(talk about fascists).
