No peace for Obama on Israel

He's facing nervous Jewish voters in Florida, attacks by Joe Lieberman and smear tactics in a political war that threatens his campaign.

The letters thread is now closed.

Obama's "Jewish problem" is very much hotly overstated

I know few people in the Jewish community who are falling in line with the views of Bill Kristol, Joe Lieberman, or John McCain, all whom will be ready at a moments notice to widen an already worthless war in Iraq, to also include Iran. Believe it or not, Israel's strategic interests are not the end all or be all to all who are, or consider themselves Jewish.

Don't make a problem when there isn't one

As the article stated, most Jews are voting democratic and I don't believe this is going to change. Yes, there are the religious Jews will will go for McCain, mostly in blue states where it won't matter. I also think that when it comes time to vote, the older Florida Jews will reach back into their conscience and pull for Obama. They are not voting for Israel, but will be voting for what will matter to them and know that Obama is the right choice.

peacelady

I'm sorry you have not received the memo. Jews bad, Israel is the worstest nation ever to blight the surface of the world. Dems won't be happy until they drive off all the Jews so then they have someone to demonize when they lose in November.

Gregory Levey's article is inadequate

Most Jews I know whether religious or secular in their sentiments belong to some form of modern reformed Judaism. Joe Lieberman might be able to swell some support amongst the Orthodox community, but that is a very tiny fraction of the American Jewish community as a whole. A further factor to consider is that war burn out is still a huge factor for Jewish voters in just a very generalized sense, and this fact doesn't hand out much hope to McCain in overcoming Obama this November.

there is no problem

Obama doens't have Jewish vote problem. Once again a distraction from the real issues facing us.

I will choose to believe you, son. I am assuming your opinion derives from decades of experience and scholarly derivations. Right? No? Yes?

What I really want is BHO elected and our hero McCain not.

Obama Doesn't Merit the Benefit of the Doubt

Barack Obama doesn't merit the benefit of the doubt on Israel. He clearly is not pro-Israel in the way that many American Jews want or expect. Joe Lieberman's office is only a few feet away from Obama's in the senate and took to mentoring him when he first arrived. He knows Obama's views. He chose to support McCain for a reason. Lieberman was also a conservative Democrat when he was one. Obama's opinions and views change with whom he is talking to. He has no solid views. He won the primary by making the leftist Democrats that he was leftist, others fell in line with him because he appeared to have similar policies to Hillary Clinton. Now he is calling the shots and going for evangelicals and more right wing voters because he feels the left is sewed up and they have no one else to vote for. That is his idea of "unity."

It is offensive the way he has been going after "rumors" and comments that he considers anti-Obama. He is grown man and if they are not true, they any allegations will go away, if they are true they will come to bite him no matter what. I don't think he should be given sympathy. He not only has the problem with Jewish voters in Florida but also Cubans are very wary of Obama's policy for Cuba. I don't think he can win Florida or should.

Attack Politics

This will all be academic when Israel attacks Iran. This could happen this year before the end of Bush's term. American influence in the Middle East is at its high point. Russians are selling air defense systems to Iran as we speak. Gates claims he know nothing, NOTHING! about the drum beat.

No need for Obama to pander to the extreme

Joe Lieberman is a staunch supporter of John Hagee and his Rapture Ready Movement. (I read that Lieberman actually thinks Hagee is a modern Moses of some sort.)

Certainly, it is not necessary for Obama or any other candidate to pander to such people.

Why would Jewish voters vote for a Republican?

Under the last Democratic president, one who took a full hands-on approach to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Israel came as close as its ever come to an all-encompassing two state solution peace deal with the Palestinians. Sadly, Arafat's failure to go that last mile, doomed it to failure.

Under the last Republican president, one who took a full hands-off approach to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, Israel is incredibly far from a peace deal, and the Gaza strip is in the Hands of Hamas. Not to mention Israel's greatest enemy, Iran, has become a hegemonic power due to the ill-timed and even more poorly executed invasion of Iraq.

The Republican's have a horrible track record on Israel. Meanwhile, the Democrats have a much better one.

McCain endorses the policies of George Bush. Obama does not.

And there's a good chance Obama would send Bill Clinton to Israel to work with Tony Blair in finding a peace deal. McCain won't send Clinton, he'll send bombs and body bags.

"there's a reason Lieberman chose McCain."

Is it the same reason he chose Bush?

Looks like big money has significant influence. If Israel attacks Iran, Obama is history--We're at War!

Oh Goody!

Oh Boy!!

As if Salon doesn't have reasons to hate Israel...

They go and hire a reporter to make a new One!

Oh what Joy!

Next Salon Headline " OBama loses and its the Jew's fault!! "

Yippee.

One wonders why Salon's editors get such a woody when it comes

to Israel?

Fortunately Obama isn't anti-semitic, which is more than I can say for most of the democratic party these days.

Obama doesn't have a Jewish problem...

LIEberman, Kristol, and the rest of the neocon whackjobs have a REALITY problem.

Tuesday, July 1, 2008 09:19 PM

Klytus what do you consider a tiny fraction?

20%? And here we're told day after day after day of super human inscrutable Jew power so that 1.2 million are so powerful they run the whole world. Why else would Salon devote 10% of its total effort and column inches to the mystery that is those darn super powerful goverment/world/media/banking dominating hyper Jews?

BTW why does Salon always go back to Greg Levey? Haven't they heard of anyone else? I thought journalism was about balance.

Anyway long story boring, The Ultibama of the Barackaverse will conquer all.
