Anti-science conservatives must be stopped

Americans must not allow global warming deniers to block the policies needed to avert catastrophic climate change. Our future is at stake.

The letters thread is now closed.

Well, if you believe in evolution . . .

what can you expect from a bunch of evolved know-it-all apes?

REMEMBER Y2K!

How many of you stocked up on duct tape and plastic to protect yourselves from a "person of interest" during the us government made anthrax terrorist crisis?

Remember Saddam Hussein was only minutes away from annihilating all of us with RC model airplanes loaded with WMD.

Yellow cake?

Can you really trust anything a species that would have corporate warmongering shills Obama or McCain lead them?

That is why I don't believe in evolution. The evidence is in and it is clear - devolution is a fact.

If you don't believe me, where is your tail?

If Global Warming Deniers Applied Their Same "Logic" To Fighting Terrorism

Hard to even begin

That anti-terrorism article is so ridiculously over-blown that it is hard to even figure out where to begin to comment on it.

Some random thoughts:

1. As I write this, absolutely no one on earth can predict what will happen tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, next decade. The arrogance of the anti-terrorist crowd is extreme.

2. If you go back and look at some of the scare tactic predictions from the earlier anti-terrorists, they were wrong.

3. The planet has had more terrorist attacks and less terrorist attacks warmer than now DURING THE TIME THAT MAN HAS BEEN ON THE EARTH. Imagine some Middle Age folks living a good life somewhere and then they get a premonition that they will get more terrorist attacks. They too would probably be scared. However, the world that came is the one we now hold dear and the old Middle Age is viewed as some crazy abnormal time. There simply is no way to know whether things might be better or worse a little more terrorist attacks or a little less terrorist attacks.

4. So, what do we do? We let all people make their own choices. Those who believe that terrorist attacks are bad can take action to protect their loved ones and property. Others can choose to use whichever anti-terrorist methods they believe is best. National security experts can continue to argue their points whether they believe there will be more or less terrorist attacks. As time passes, people will shift around but as with all other market based decision-making, people do interpret the signals and end up cooperating whether they want to or not. Why? Because the economics will drive it naturally and we will evolve to an adaptive solution. At least, until the asteroid hits or a nearby gamma ray burst fries us all.

@Trainman

What makes molecules move?

What makes molecules perform the tasks in the cell which makes life?

My god is bigger then most others.

It in those higher dimensions of string theory.

Even simple string theory is just a metaphor for that three letter group.

Each dimension is a projection, or slice of the higher one above it.

Only a atheist believes that 10 or 11 is the limit.

But for most, god is the almighty dollar. Political labels don't alter that.

oil

Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga.: "This bill will attack citizens at the pump" and "increase job losses."

Gee, do ya suppose bombing Iran might cause oil prices to rise rather quickly?

Sunday, June 29, 2008 09:19 PM

@AJCalhoun

Actually, I am sitting.

I beg your pardon.

Rupert...

My bad.

"Gee, do ya suppose bombing Iran might cause oil prices to rise rather quickly?"

HERETIC!

Quick, someone burn him at the stake before he ruins this scam for the oil companies.

Thank almighty GOD that no one has figured out that Iraq was the same scam.

I Gotta Ask ...

Has "elitist" become the new "librul"?

You must accept global warming on faith.

Let me explain.

Unless you are a climate scientist, and unless you understand the research, and the science behind it (thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, climatology, chemistry), you basically are relying on your faith in scientists, and the integrity of the scientific process.

Any semi-random weather events that you may point to COULD support the theory. Or they could be random weather events.

As time goes on, there are likely to be more and more consistent evidence that supports the theory.

But I can't blame someone too much who doesn't have a background in science to doubt it. They do have an obligation to keep an open mind.

Rejecting the Global Warming Scientific Consensus Is Not Keeping An Open Mind

Million-Year Picnic "I can't blame someone too much who doesn't have a background in science to doubt it. They do have an obligation to keep an open mind."

"Doubt" as in not being absolutely certain, sure. On the other hand, "doubt" as in rejecting the scientific consensus on global warming is not keeping an open mind - it is instead rejecting overwhelming expert opinion on something where one has no idea of what he or she is talking about.

coincidental weather disasters

since this was predicted in the 80s, hasn't the pattern sped up?

i mean, clearly the anecdotal evidence suggests this. when's the last time there wasn't a flood in a major american city, drought, wildfires, and above average number of tornadoes?

but does someone know the data on this? i know a saw an article around the new year...

Global warming is a scam

I own an environmental which distributes the only engine lubricant ISO 14064 process compliant to reduce CO2 emissions and I can fine NO EVIDENCE that CO2 from human activity is causing global warming as well as thousands of scientist. The temperature has actually been cooling so this fascist movement changes its tag line to climate change to include global cooling. This is a political movement and not based upon science. I am way beyond liberal and question everything so to disagree with computer models is not a conservative issue. This is mainly a cleaver method to find followers. Make it a liberal doctrine. The danger here is the government gaining more power and control over our lives. If human activity only contributes 2% of all CO2 contributed to the environment then how is small percentage going to bring upon us Armageddon. This movement is fanatical so wake up and stop following and start researching for the truth.
