I care more that our next President will be competent, compassionate, capable, honest and insightful and less that he might be a Muslim, smokes or chews his fingernails.
End the war in Iraq, repair America's infrastructure, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, create jobs, fix the break with America's traditional allies worldwide, engage our enemies in peaceful dialogue, help end our over-dependence on foreign oil, stop global warming, encourage green technology and return America to the fair and honorable place in the world where it was prior to the bastardocracy of George W. Bush.
THAT'S what I want in a President!

Barack Obama is a Muslim..and as Dorothy Parker wrote, " I am the Queen of Rumania." The malicious and utterly stupid lies circulating on the internet only serve to emphasize the extent of the ignorance in this country and how little the media has done to dispel them. So long as the mainstream news organizations are the willing mouthpieces of the corporate world, and as we saw with the run-up to the Iraq invasion, they remain unwilling to speak truth to power, we can expect more of the same.
Morons get to vote. Yes, democracy is still the best, the fairest system (not that ours couldn't use a few tweaks) but we don't give people an IQ test before we let them mark their ballots. Or even just a general knowledge test. Think Obama's a Muslim? Inch'Allah, pal. Come back in four years. Can't find Iraq on the map? Go home and bone up on your geography. Still blame Saddam for 9/11? Sorry, you can only vote on American Idol. Of course, we can't do this, because idiots deserve representation too. Unfortunately, they tend to vote for other idiots. 'Nuff said.

If Barack Obama is a true American, he will refuse, if elected, to take the oath of office on a Bible. Unless he is prepared to take it as well on the Koran, a Torah, and any other book sacred to any other American citizen he will be serving. Or how about a book actually written in America by an American--LEAVES OF GRASS, perhaps?
This is just what Hillary wants. She and her campaign operatives did everything they could to marginalize, trash and otherwise hurt Obama during the campaign for the nomination, AND IT HASN'T STOPPED.
Hillary hopes to: 1) still have a chance at the nomination at the Democratic convention; or 2) if she can't get the nomination, she hopes Obama will LOSE in the November election. If he loses, she can run in 2012.

Mike Madden, I have a 1939 book on the concept of a Balkan Federation by LS Stavrianos. The the gory details of the Greek - Macedonian dispute bored him THEN! What is really interesting to me is why all those journalists (mostly liberal ... but not all) ignore the plight of ethnic Macedonians in Greece ... NOW!

Not what I want to see when I arrive here in the morning, the latter part of the headline doesn't diminish the assault of the first. And I'm from the "so what if he is" camp, but I've heard enough from the "sound bite fed" camp to understand that these folks aren't going to try to get at the truth because it's work to do so. Obama's efforts to fight the smears, while maybe a necessary response, is nonetheless a sad thing. The people I've talked to aren't interested in countering their misinformation with facts, they're a little uncomfortable and unwilling to bring that into focus. And they are not uneducated people, maybe just complacent?
So fight the smears will be like snopes for those of us who do respond to the rascist emails. Easy information. Shrugs on the other end.
I was stunned by the reply I received to my reply to the sender of one of those mass rascist emails. She said it was sent to her by her church & she was just forwarding as instructed at the bottom! Too much. How do you reach that mindlessness?
I believe I could guess the outcome of the vote were we the people allowed to vote on whether swearing in was conducted with hand on the holy bible or hand on the sacred constitution.
Still, it'd be another exciting exercise.
Please, don't go hanging this Barack Muslim Spam nonsense on the McCain campaign. It started a loooooong time ago, back when Rudy had higher polling than McCain.
There's no shortage of hateful idiots who will believe whatever crap they hear about about the candidate from the other party, believing that s/he is evil, simply for being other. Conservatives do not have a monopoly on that hate, as evidenced by the snide shit that gets written here about Cindy McCain.
Rampant misinformation is par for the course for anyone running for office. Smear generates more clicks. The many fools who will believe Barack is Muslim also believe rumors of McCain's black love-child. I respect that the McCains stayed focused on issues, and never trotted Bridget before the press to prove the rumors false. My advice for Obama, is that he do the same. A simple "I'm proud of this country in that we are each free to worship as we see fit and free to assemble with whatever congregation we choose. I am a ______, but that is not relevant.." and then change the subject. Sadly, kicking out the women in headscarves made it seem like he's got something to hide.
