This kind of smacks of John Kerry's half assed late attempt to deflect swift boaters. Either you're above it all and you lose or you're not and you attack. One or the other.
Nobody's really saying that he's a muslim anymore. That's sooo 5 months ago.
The only real reason that anybody said that in the first place is because he calimed that his "world experience" will make him more able to deal with the middle east. The question is, what do you know about muslims that will make you better at dealing with them? So the question was: were you one? Are you one. I forgive the question because it's vaild. This guy fell out of the sky and were not allowed to question his background? He does come from a muslim family. Fact. So why not speculate?
Since then most right wingger types aren't talking about him being a muslim anymore. This whole line of thinking is smoke and mirrors, and it's being done by the Ob campain to Ob fuscate. They cast any right wing criticsim of him as just more of the same question. Which isn't what the right is doing, not at all.
The questions being asked now are more along the lines of: how deep does this Rezko thing go?

How bad is Obama's grasp on history, really? Is he really that stupid?
http://mendingtime.blogspot.com/2008/05/obamas-flawed-grasp-of-history.html
Both of these are plenty to talk about, and by the way perfectly valid. I don't know how Salon, the MSM and slate sleep at night while avoiding these 2 topics.
Obama is an empty suit, and he's corrupt. Hope? Change?
Please.
For an advanced country (supposedly), one would think that people would not be so stupid, but, lo and behold, they are.
If he's found a bigger medium for circulating information than the internet, he should probably patent it.
I often see a missed nuance by most media (even Salon) when describing any campaign's neglect in 'getting the word out'. The unnoted is the 'receiving end' of this exchange-'the non-readers'. As with most things, communication is a two way street and when prodigious millions are spent in the earnest transmission of accurate information to the throngs, its a MSM media cop out to later review and suppose from the outside that any campaign's word is still 'not sufficiently out' when its pretty obvious my otherwise revered fellow Americans-unwittingly or willfully shrouded its hard to know-are ultimately responsible for whatever inane messages they create, express, facilitate and other wise spread.
The addage about making horses drink water comes to mind and I just hope these unwilling citizens get called out on the carpet more often. It does help to know however, each of our readership and intelligence levels are immediately on view just as soon as our mouths open.
I think before you cut off your nose to spite your face Obama supporters, you should accept the facts. Facts don't lie....and as for the trinity church....muslims do belong and are active in the church.....if Obama has nothing to fear then he should come up with his birth certificate and baptism papers. Isn't that what presidents need to provide before taking the oath of office? Or are you yet again going to give him a pass on this requirement. Michigan has the largest Muslim population in the country and it was stripped of it's votes because the Democratic party did not want it to hold an early primary. Iowa where two mules and a donkey vote was given the preference....Obama spent more than two years setting up his naieve impressionable students to help him win the Iowa caucus. Why not Michigan, as Senator Levin asked? Michigan has the most diverse population of the country. I will tell Senator Levin and all who want the answer....it is because the press would have reported the voting statistics of the muslim population and Obama would be outed. Muslims are americans too! But his campaign does not want them. The Obama campaign up until the sunday night incident in Michigan has been able to avoid the issue....but you have to be deaf, dumb, and blind, to ignore it any further...these were american muslims who are working for the same ideals we americans share.I hope you are not too closed minded to view it!

One of the things that irritates is when people knowingly, habitually lie about stupid crap to distract from the fact that there candidates essentially have no redeeming features.
That is the whole deal behind people who make a big deal about patriotism, what a nasty elitist the candidate is and whether a given candidate has enough of the right religion - it is mostly there to distract people away from anything real.
Of course! The obvious response to gutter charges toward the the candidate whose appeal achieved unimaginable success as the Nominee of Hope and Change from two generations of such scurrilous attacks is to respond with the slimy methodology of his attackers. That would certainly accentuate his message. His and his erstwhile opponent for the Nomination are doing just fine in elevating our civic discourse, thank you!
First: There is no requirement for a baptism certificate in order to become president.
In fact the US Constitution specifically holds that there shall be no religious bar to who can become president - Baptism is specifically a Christian religious ritual.
Second: In this story there was a link to "Fight the Smears."
On the front page of that site there is this:

A copy of Obama's birth certificate.
You sir, are a fucking moron.
I don't think these kinds of attacks really sway anyone, they just reinforce preconceived notions amongst a group of people who were dead set against the candidate to start.
I don't think the swift boaters hurt Kerry as much as his record and general lack of charisma.
In general these issues become usefull strawmen to blame defeat on, but I think their actual effect on voters is negligable.
That being said however, it's all the Republicans seem to have, and reacting to it, loudly a vocally debunking it, even showing fear on the topic may be part of Obama's plan.
Think about it, if these issues don't really effect the electorate, then what better way to fool your oponant then to make them think you are really worried about these attacks. By loudly debunking the attacks, and by some theories giving credence to the attacks, you encourage more of the same (as opposed to an ad focused on real issues that might sway the electorage).
So I'm thinking it's a classic rope a dope, let the opponant think they are hurting you, let them blow their funds and energy on an unsuccessful mode of attack, and then come on strong in the solid pocket book and security issues that do sway the public.
The Crypt Keeper is already on the ropes and doesn't letting him swing wildly, infact encouraging him to swing wildly will likely just exhaust the old man and his limited funds, while the far more capable politician steps up, knocks him out, and win November in a Landslide.
Sounds good to me.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
