What do you expect from a population that is more interested in what a candidate has done than what he might be able to accomplish? How can anyone expect any show of intelligence from a pop that fears and carps mightily about govt interference yet nothing of demanding govt relief when hard times come. Talk about ignorance. In a land where teachers are paid little better than Micky D. fryboys is it reasonable to expect an educated population that can see or want to see outside their own neighborhood?
If Obama was Muslim or Druid or Wiccan should it really matter? Is the people faith so fragile it cannot stand up without disparaging another?
Obviously to be a politician in America it is necessary to appear in public with either a cross or star peeping out from between ones buttocks!

Although both his first and his middle name ( which has seemingly been banned from public usage) are of Arabic/Muslim derivation, there is not one ounce of true religious conviction in this chameleon like political opportunist. I know that aside from not being able to utter his middle name we are supposed to also avoid the topic of religion, but the glaring and unappetizing indication is that Barry used the expedient "Black Christian" church affiliation as a way of gaining broad acceptance and therefore political gravitas in the African American community that up until that point, rightfully viewed him as a bi-racial interloper with no genuine connection to their concerns and life experience. No, being raised in those all important "formative years" by an agnostic (if not atheist) mother and grandmother did not prepare Barry for either the life Muslim, or, for any other theistic association. It was POLITICS that forced his hand and like a true Machiavellian, he plotted his religious course in a very careful, albeit transparant6 ,way. MUSLIM? NOT BY A LONG SHOT!
You state that Barack Obama was in Pakistan in l98l, at which time he would have been only twenty years old. I think Benazir Bhutto was under house arrest at that time and it's very unlikely that she'd have been interested in meeting an unknown student, which is what he'd have been in l98l. Perhaps I misunderstood the reference to Benazir Bhutto.
Yes, this is a big deal. Remember John Kerry? Recipient of 3 purple hearts, the silver star, and a bronze star? I personally ripped down "Kerry is a traitor" signs posted on public property back in 2004. A genuine war hero painted as traitor and liar. Kerry lost that election because his campaign didn't respond aggressively enough to the swiftboat bullshit artists. Obama cannot let this stuff go unanswered. Jesus, get that man some bibles and have him swear some oaths. Photograph him with hand over heart and a million fricken' flags on his coat during some national anthems. Show him with a crucifix. Do whatever it takes. And respond to the next round of bullshit just as aggressively. Someone should also be just as aggressive with McCain by the way. Hagee spewing his anticatholic rantings should have been all over the airwaves! Where was moveon et al.?????
Why is an African American called black even if he is multi racial as Obama is. You call him a black American. Why not call him white since his mother is white?
I think this is a form of racism and has not been challenged as far as I know. You consider anyone black, even if he has only one drop of black blood in him. I think that needs to change.

Could you please get over yourself? That Hillary-bashing you continue to shovel is old, tired, passe and boring. Those of us who are and have been Hillary supporters are being asked to support Barack for "unity and the good of the party". Obama trolls such as yourself are the primary reason why I haven't signed-on enthusiastically to that idea as of yet.

Wow, I don't often chime in to criticize Salon's editors and writers about how they spin a particular issue, but this piece is a clumsy latecomer that merely perpetuates the very problem it is supposed to be covering. The headline takes the cake. Nothing in this piece is novel -- the topic has been covered ad nauseam. Perhaps the writer and editors felt there was merit in pursuing this story, but its execution & publication show poor judgment, in my opinion.
now he needs to focus on the fact that he lies like a rug. You can't believe a word that he says about an issue because what he says is what is beneficial for him at the time, not what he really plans to do. Some of us knew that at the beginning but now I believe the press understands that but they've made their bet and they don't know how to fold.
He can lie and get away with it because the east coast media have given him a pass on everything. The voters see that and they don't believe the media any more than they believe him. Money and commercials can't change that as he found out in the primaries in the big, diverse states. African Americans will still vote for him en masse because they don't care what he says...he looks like them. He has formed his reputation and it's not a good one. He talks about issues one way but does the opposite...just what we don't need running our country now. For the first time in my adult life I am not proud to be a Democrat. For the first time in my adult life I am seriously considering voting for a republican(s) just to teach the DNC a lesson. They have forced this person on us and we don't appreciate it and the only way we can let them know is to vigorously campaign against their candidate......and we can and we will!
