Let me preface, I agree under American view of the world BHO can claim to be whatever he wants. We are discussing an Islamic view of the world.
publicola:The Islamic call to prayer is NOT the Shahada - the Islamic call to prayer is the Adhan, which is not the same thing. And the recitation of the Adhan does not make one a Muslim, from an Islamic perspective or otherwise. (Nor does the recitation of the Shahada, unless it is stated with belief and conviction.)
OK. Technically you are right. The adhan is not the shahada. The adhan is the shahada plus additional sentences calling muslims to the mosque. Now, if BHO was "never" a muslim how come he went to koranic school to make funny faces (according to his book) and learned the adhan (shahada plus to be precise) in perfect Arabic? In Indonesian schools only declared muslims take the koranic classses in school. At some point he was declared muslim.
publicola:Sherman A. Jackson, a professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Michigan, cited an ancient Islamic jurist, Ibn al-Qasim, who said, "If you divorce a Christian woman and ignore your child from her to the point that the child grows up to be a Christian, the child is to be left," meaning left to make his own choice. Jackson said that there was not total agreement among Islamic jurists on the point, but Luttwak’s assertion to the contrary was wrong.

OK. I couldn't find any information about this Ibn-al-Qasim but let's say it's true. Whos saying it? An American muslim for American consumption and worse, with a loophole "there was not total agreement among Islamic jurists on the point". So there are Islamic jusrists that would consider "If you divorce a Christian woman and ignore your child from her to the point that the child grows up to be a Christian", the child is still a muslim.
Ibn-Qasim's opinion not withstanding, I would hate to be a Hawaiian with a muslim father in Saudi Arabia claiming "I'm not a muslim, I'm a christian". Good luck with that one if you don't have the protection of the Secret Service and connections in the leftist political elites of the USA. Your head will probably roll under this scenario.
