Please, don't go hanging this Barack Muslim Spam nonsense on the McCain campaign. It started a loooooong time ago, back when Rudy had higher polling than McCain.
There's no shortage of hateful idiots who will believe whatever crap they hear about about the candidate from the other party, believing that s/he is evil, simply for being other. Conservatives do not have a monopoly on that hate, as evidenced by the snide shit that gets written here about Cindy McCain.
Rampant misinformation is par for the course for anyone running for office. Smear generates more clicks. The many fools who will believe Barack is Muslim also believe rumors of McCain's black love-child. I respect that the McCains stayed focused on issues, and never trotted Bridget before the press to prove the rumors false. My advice for Obama, is that he do the same. A simple "I'm proud of this country in that we are each free to worship as we see fit and free to assemble with whatever congregation we choose. I am a ______, but that is not relevant.." and then change the subject. Sadly, kicking out the women in headscarves made it seem like he's got something to hide.
