Barack Obama is a Muslim, and other stories

The Democratic nominee's campaign is working overtime to combat rumors -- yet misinformation is still running rampant across the Internet.

    @maureenodonnell

    Hi, "M.O.D."

    I like reading your comments (not always agreeing 100%) but always getting good, competent, reasoned commentary; so I hope you don't mind if I hi-jack your post, and add some of my own thoughts to it.

    Its no big secret that during the Dem. Primary Campaign, I preferred Sen. Clinton. Now that that avenue is closed to me, I went from being a Hillary supporter to a Democratic supporter. I’m like many, if not most, prior Clinton supporters who always knew I’d support the Democratic nominee. But I also, like most,I presume, don’t like people shoving it in my face and yelling “hurry up.” Everyone has a different level of enthusiasm for their particular Candidate, but it shouldn’t be a requirement that we dunk our heads in the Obama River and publicly proclaim, “I’m Saved!” He’s got my vote, and that’s that.

    Issue #2.…..Wipe out the rumors, once and for all. Are all these posters here serious when they mockingly deride and slur those that don’t “go to the Web-Site” for clarification of Sen. Obama’s positions? Isn’t that what this long, long campaign is all about? Have we come to the ultimate point of adulation for our candidate that his/her “word” is all that’s required on important, substantive questions? I don’t recall too many Obama supporters having said, after a Hillary speech or comment, “ Yup, that’s it; if She said it, its Gospel, no confirmation needed.”

    Hell, in New York City, every bar/nightclub has a big sign at the entrance, “We Proof….No Exceptions!“ And they mean it. How much easier for all concerned that they “proof” everyone, 80 year olds, and those barely out of puberty.

    I don’t think, in a post 9-11 world, and after a very competitive primary, with tons and tons of smears and garbage still waiting ahead, that its too much to ask the candidate to “proof it” and get on with it.

    I sat in my office on the South side of the East River (in Queens), directly across from Manhattan, and watched with my own eyes, in real time, on the morning of Sept. 11, both buildings fall.

    Lets just grow up, do what you have to do, and move on.

    Why is it even an issue?
