Barack Obama's epic win

The young senator makes history not only in terms of race, while a determined Hillary Clinton delays the inevitable a bit longer.

The letters thread is now closed.

respect

Two thoughts--

Respect is something you have to give in order to get. The AUMF vote, Kyl Leiberman, and clusterbombs are not in my rear view mirror, but front and center. Please consider that many voters may actually have considered the issues and found Clinton's foreign policy/human rights record wanting. There is no doubt in my mind that neither gender nor race compared with the war in the outcome of the primary election.

Will Obama Be In Jail ?

I was just wondering because it seems Obama might be in jail before November 4th. He was a close political associate with Rezko who was just convicted of political crime. I read that Chicago politics are more corrupt than any other city in the United States. The FBI has more offices in that city to fight corruption than any other city. Obama is deeply immersed in Chicago politics.

I'm not sure though if Obama loses his right to vote that would disqualify him from running for office. I read that Obama was deemed not able to visit the Capitol because his background disqualifies him from getting security clearance and yet even though this is public knowledge he is still trying to run for president. How can anyone apply for the job of president if they do not even qualify to apply for security clearance to visit the Capitol?

No.

Christine,

Rezko and Obama are two different people, despite what the Right-wing media might want you to believe. I once had a roommate who got busted for a DUI - that didn't make me guilty of DUI just because he was my friend.

What is "political crime" anyway?

There's no shortage of corruption in Chicago politics, but anybdoy who knows anything about politics here knows that Obama was not a favorite of the local Democratic "Machine" - his appeal to Illinois voters was that he was, to the extent possible, largely independent of that scene.

"I read that Obama was deemed not able to visit the Capitol because his background disqualifies him from getting security clearance and yet even though this is public knowledge he is still trying to run for president." - This is insane. Why would a Senator not be able to enter the Capitol? What background does one need?

"How can anyone apply for the job of president..." - In America, one does not "apply" for the presidency, one conducts a campaign to try to convince voters to vote for oneself. In case you haven't noticed, that's what all this primary business is about. You should do yourself a favor and get yourself a high school civics textbook - it's all in there.

Can you please provide the sources of your misinformation or do you just make this up? Who do you think you're fooling?

Wow Christines

Wow Christines, I guess you are not old enough to remember the Keating Five! If you truly look back at McCain's past you will see a lot of things that are very questionable. It amazes me how people want to link a person to a candidate, that has nothing to do with the candidate. As far as the giving to someone's campaign, please google Keating Five, the Clintons have so much baggage in that area STILL, as does McCain. Your comments, if you truly have concerns or are sliming him as the emails about he not being a Christian, and worse, scare me as far as just how much do voters truly know not only what their candidates stand for, but what their moral fiber turly is. Please don't listen to the pundits, check it out. One great website for rumors is snopes.com, but you can find out so much on the search engines.

Letter to Hillary from somebody we all know

Dear Hillary,

Thank you for all your mean attacks to Barack Obama.

Please Hillary don't concede even when you know that you are unable to win the candidacy. Please go on. Go on... You have done it amazingly but you can still be useful.

I could never thank you enough for your help. You have been brilliant. Nobody could have done it like you.

Yours faithfully,

Signed: The next president of United States of America (because of you).

Senator John McCain

@sirphred

You are wrong about Michelle Obama. She was confronted with a surprise question on national TV, and I think a rather rude one (considering her husband was not only still running his campaign for the nomination but was winning and had an insurmountable delegate lead and the Clinton campaign had been going very negative on him, which is why the question was asked). The question was would she thinking about "working to support" Senator Clinton if she won the nomination. Michelle Obama responded, "Well, I would have to think about that."

It is not often that the spouses of politicians campaign for other politicians, so I don't see anything wrong with her hesitancy. Also, she has very young daughters at home and she has been away from them quite a bit lately, as has their father! Since he would likely have agreed to campaign for Clinton, it is a ridiculous assumption that Michelle would also be expected to campaign for Clinton as well.

I am very distressed that people have been spreading that rumor (are you really a Republican troll?). Please check your facts and stop it.

Also, a question for all Clinton supporters who are adamant about voting for McCain since Clinton lost the nomination: If Clinton had won the Democratic nomination, who would her opponent have been? IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MCCAIN! She, and you, would have been going after him like he's the devil to make sure she became president, but since she has now lost, you are going to support him, her antithesis in almost all things politic? It is truly a cult of personality if that is the conclusion you have come to.

Im voting for the fool

The most important thing is the economy and running the economy. The second most important is relations with other countries, especially those nearby. The thought of starting a war halfway around the world should be complete anathema. In a just world, the perpetrators of the mortgage crisis would be candidates for lethal injection even more so than your worst murderer, but instead they move onward and upward, or at least sideways. An economy which favors the rich gradually or not so gradually becomes like a third-world country and here in America we have the additional advantage of all the Mexicans and other immigrants to show us how its done. But I certainly blame them less than the upper class, also known as the Republicans, which rather likes having an endless supply of servants and nothing really to worry about, and who may be on their way to yet another victory. Why people constantly go on supporting the rich and all their aggrandizing is beyond me, yet we’ve seen it twice in a row here. The first one was a fluke. The second one was 9/11. This one it’s the black fool against the wizened veteran. I’ll say right now I’m voting for the fool. The Republicans basically always ruin the country because of their insane greed. It’s seen over and over. It’s seen right now. Unless we’ve just been Diebolded, it will be hard to tolerate seeing it again.
