Barack Obama's epic win

The young senator makes history not only in terms of race, while a determined Hillary Clinton delays the inevitable a bit longer.

The letters thread is now closed.

Take A Breath

And consider the debt she owes her supporters and those supporters' need for a satisfying outcome, some real payoff for their physical and emotional commitment to their candidate

That's exactly how I saw Clinton's speech as well. The level of emotionalism in these blogs and comments is just so ridiculous that people are now frothing at the mouth because she failed to concede-even though many predicted she wouldn't anyway. We can only speculate about what is going on behind the scenes-for all we know Clinton isn't interested in the VP slot or wants Obama to reconsider his optional Health Care coverage plan-she announced the issue as a reason for her candidacy in her speech and Obama proclaimed she would definitely have a leadership role in Health Care reform in his administration.

If she wants to use her most committed supporters as leverage she has to communicate what she wants to them-and presumably she wants to do so without alienating his supporters or Democrats in general. So far health-care seems to be the biggest issue she is talking about as the "Clinton difference", and its also something she has supported her whole life.

Obama campaigning in Appalachia is very encouraging, regardless of the outcome. Now he has time to really meet people and introduce himself on his terms. I think many voters will be surprised about the extent to which he addresses their concerns. The personal touch wins elections.

Treneee...

drink your kool aid like the rest of obamabots.

You can't argue and I don't blame ya...that's the power of brainwash.

indigo try to be objective

MO told SC voters during campaign that they were one of them so they should vote for them...yeah it worked! But then Bill got lynched to say the obvious that blacks voted for O for kinship reason, first and foremost.

That's what disgusts me about this primary and drive me away from any affinity toward Obama.

--------------------------

Bill got "lynched" by his own words and actions, not because of Michelle Obama. Bill also called Obama's vote against the Iraq war a "fairy tale" and hinted that since Jesse Jackson won SC when he ran that Obama's win wasn't as important. These perceived slights from their OWN campaign doomed her in future elections. All she wanted to talk about the "hard working Americans, white Americans" and forgot about the most loyal demo she had when the race started, namely black voters. It seems you are trying to do the same thing that she did and it's disturbing and inaccurate.

Thank GOD

I don't judge Hillary by her supporters. Then I might truly hate her.

The haters are out in full force today.

Red star for Ricardo

On page 38. without the F bomb.

We have a lot of Republican trolls on this site, along with lot of frustrated Obama/Clinton supporters. One is frustrated because they want the focus on McCain, the other because they are deeply disappointed.

I really hope that anyone casually viewing this thread realizes that those suffering from anger management issues are not representative of the majority of Obama's or Clinton's supporters.

TReneee...you are wrong

I am not anti black anymore than you are anti woman (perhaps you are but I won't presume that until proven guilty). But that's a typical "argument" from obamatons, there is no way any sane human being can reason with you. So basically you are saying the black dude who says the same thing is anti-black too, huh? Smart.

And you are wrong in your definition of affirmative action.

Try harder, google it... show us you are not brainwashed.

nope. nope and nope

"@rufus11

Hillary Clinton is not a recalcitrant child having a temper tantrum, to be "punished" for her bad behavior. She is a Presidential candidate who received 50% of the vote. She is not "blackmailing" Obama. "

So what. she doesn't have 50% of the DEMOCRATIC vote. She only started winning after rush limbaugh and fox started fighting for her. why do you think all these "hillary voters" are threatening to go to john mccain? they were anyway. They are republcain sabotuers. But even if she did. She lost. She is not owned anything, as she constantly claims. this is america. this is a democracy, not a monarchy, as much as the gop has turned it into one the last 50 years.

"In order to believe that, you must believe that she alone has the power to ensure that he wins the Presidency. All she can do is concede or not. "

Nope. Take your 40% to mccain, let us build the party/coutnry without your gop sabotage. We have two parties for a reason. We have three branches of government for a reason. She has zero clout, to me, and is holding no cards. The more she and you BLACKMAIL the less youa re going to get. I hope he gives you nothing. this is not elementary school trophies were everyone gets a medal. this is serious business and lifes are in the balance. hillary cares about no one but hereself. She has showed this. I don't want that cancer hurting the great thing we are building here.

"The media have declared him the victor and he stands to gain nothing by her conceding before the convention. Why is it so important anyway? "

No the voters in the american democratic party decalred him the winner. the voters and the party and the media and reality.

Just because she and you do not acknowledge reality does not change reality. It makes you a crazy person. to build a false reality if you do not like yours.

"As for her leaving and taking her supporter's with her - we are not cult worshippers who obey every word of our great leader. We have minds of our own, and will vote the way we feel is best, regardless of her views. She has already stated (repeatedly) that she will support Obama in the general election should he win the primary. You seem to be saying "Give in and we might throw a few scraps your way, eventually". Clinton is negotiating from a position of strength, and she is wise to do so."

I agree with you she can't take her supporters. So why the threat. How many really would go, including the ones who buy the false narratives like this you republcains, i mean clinton supporters, make.

If she will support the dem candidate when is she going to start. All gop for months now.

I'm saying she lost. She such concede like a professional and patriot and step down. Not blackmail her parties candidate

"As for race and gender having nothing to do with this election... what rock have you been hiding under for the past 6 months?

-- jebldmm"

And who made sure it was an issue? Bill clinton? clinton surrogates? Sean hannity? Chris matthews (hillary backer)? Bill o'reilly? Brian williams? Gibson? CBS abc news? headline?

the republcains. the republcains made it an issue. Divide and conquer. the gop has no candidate. all they can do is sabotage the oppostion. That is their only hope. The only people that are pretending to buy this are republcains grasping for a reason to not support obama. Whether race, or left-leaning stance, or religon, or what have you.

It's all about an excuse. there is no reason or excuse to why obama will not or cannot be the next president. We need clear thinkers. We need smart people. We need leaders in politics. We need statesmen. The gop, clitnon included, brand of poltiics is done. It has not served america well the last 50 years (as a whole). the sooner you clinton backers, i mean gop, realize you have been wrong and work toward progress the sooner we can fix the damage done. The first step in solving a problem is admtting you have it. :)
