Barack Obama's epic win

The young senator makes history not only in terms of race, while a determined Hillary Clinton delays the inevitable a bit longer.

The letters thread is now closed.

@Taliesan

"Overpaying" and "underpaying" for something always depends from where you start from. As in "Oh, I got a real bargain on that shirt because it was 20% off and I only paid $15." Not knowing that the store got it for 5 bucks from the wholesaler, who got it for 50 cents from the manufacturer in China. Something a lot of "intellectuals" are completely ignorant of -- no offense intended.

So, you see, your "overpayment" is a matter of mathematical perspective. You do understand math and economics, don't you? Oh, I forgot. You're a lawyer. I think Shakespeare was completely on target, btw, regarding what should be done to lawyers.

The only reason you're getting your rebate is because you're being taxed less than me. Do your math. Learn.

The thing about you lefties is you actually believe that you are entitled to your share of my paycheck. Well, I don't agree.

Still waiting on another correction...

The one where Shapiro acknowledges that Bill Clinton was brand new to the national stage, as well.

Is anyone watching...

...bot Hillary and Barack kow-towing to AIPAC?

Obama is speaking live at the moment. Hillary will be next.

All the same rubbish here really...it doesn't seem like much will be different in the Middle East, in terms of American foreign policy. So much for 'change'.

He just added a nice touch about 'evil' Iran, and already he's said Jerusalem shall remain the Israeli capital (fair enough) and it'll NOT be divided (NOT fair enough.)

Plus ça change...

The emotional hole that can never be filled

So what kind of "respect" are we talking about?

Would welcoming the Clinton supporters into the fight to retake the White House be enough? Didn't think so.

"Respect" is another way for Clinton to say that she'll keep moving the goalposts because no matter how far you move them the drama just never seems to end. I am sure that many people have been in this relationship before.

So how does Obama earn the respect? Give Clinton the Secretary of State? Give H. Clinton the VP? Step aside and give her the Presidency? Her list of demands is vague enough not to be pinned down, and then there's the problem when Obama doesn't smile right or scratches his nose or says something condescending like she's likeable enough or whatever. Clinton's minions and the reliable sources between her and the MSM are going to float all sorts of contradictory demands and grievances.

Use a little class analysis to get past all this posturing.

Buh Bye!

Ricardo, you I respect. And by now you should know that I said way back in February that if Clinton does not win the nomination I will vote -- and campaign -- for McCain.

And this doesn't make you a GOP hack how, as you protested to me the other day? Thanks for proving my point.

Regarding respect...

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Obama has shown Clinton a tremendous amount of respect, capped off by his extremely gracious acknowledgement of her candidacy in his victory speech last night.

However, the same cannot be said of Clinton. Repeatedly, she has shown him little to no respect. Obama played by the rules while exploiting weaknesses in her early campaign strategy. He won the nomination fair and square.

Frankly, I found her speech last night just this side of appalling. I cannot help but wonder if her ultimate goal isn't to dismantle the Democratic Party as it now stands and remake it with her as its spiritual leader. It would somewhat like what Reagan managed to do with the GOP after he lost the '76 nomination. And in her order to remake the Democratic Party in her own image, Clinton is trying to use triangulation tactics -- women, working-class whites and Hispanics -- to marginalize the party's African American base of support.

Her approach would amount to an utterly selfish continuation of identity politics for the sake of grabbing and holding onto power.

Overpayment and underpayment is judged on your tax assessment.

You underestimate how much you have to pay, you pay to little, you end up paying for it.

You overestimate it, you pay too much, you get some money back.

It is not a matter of perspective. It is a matter of knowing how taxes work.

Where's the picture of Hillary?

Plenty of quotes from her on this epic night when some guy temporarily claimed to be the winner of what Hillary actually won if you count the numbers right.

Thanks for all the quotes from Hillary, though.

And Myiq, I hope that they're paying you more than ten cents a post.

More rhetoric on Iran at the moment...

...as Obama proposes more, 'UNILATERAL sanctions against Iran'. His words, speaking before AIPAC at the moment.

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 07:51 AM

So red

The reason why I am getting my rebate is because I pay in more than is really owed and claim it at the end of the year.

You on the other hand pay less than is really owed (Possibly by accident) and end up having to make up the difference at the end of the year.

@senorplaid

"GOP hack"? To those who lack knowledge of politics and political history, probably. For the rest of you, I will re-post something I wrote earlier so you can make your own decision as to whether I am a "GOP hack" or not:

No Way

"Unifying" behind Obama is to accept the following:

- New Liberal Fascist brownshirts on the internet and in the MSM telling what remains of the old democrats what to do and what to think, no questions or protestations allowed. If you don't do what they say they will spread all manner of lies and propaganda to destroy you, as they did to the Clintons.

- The Democratic Party becomes hostage to the Black Vote. 98% bloc voting for Black candidates. Not just in this primary, but in all elections, local, state and national. A gun pointed at the head of all Democratic officials at all levels.

- The death of the Clinton Center. A surge to the Hard Left by what remains of this political party, in the manner of MoveOn.org, Michael Moore, Rev. Wright, et al. This is not your parents' Democratic Party anymore. That political party is dead. You know I'm right. You feel it in your bones. It is a sad day for all of us.

The only way to prevent this from happening is for Obama to lose the general in November. It's your choice. It's your vote. Don't be railroaded. McCain will have at most a single term and the House and Senate will be dominated by Democrats.

The country will survive a McCain presidency. But don't give the party away to these radicals. Or it will die.
