Barack Obama's epic win

The young senator makes history not only in terms of race, while a determined Hillary Clinton delays the inevitable a bit longer.

    @IzzieDizzie

    "delay, timetable, alternate universe...just give her some time to breath. It's been a roller coaster for both of them."

    Why does Clinton need "time to breath" any more than anyone else? That's like asking the loser of the Super Bowl--even if it was a close game--to get a few days to recover before having to watch the winner accept the trophy.

    Obama won fair and square. He followed ALL the rules of the party, but even more, he was gracious and took the high road throughout--no matter what anybody tried to sling at him to engage in the unfortunate mudwrestling mentality of recent political races with 24/7 pundit coverage. And THAT is exactly what the massive numbers of young voters who signed up to support him mean by "CHANGE"--in spite of the attempts by others to make that a small thing it is not. It is absolutely time to change the small-minded, divisive, attack mentality that allows Americans to treat one another like dirt, and become once again a nation where we actually believe in some standards of civil discourse while we work towards actual goals. If ANYONE should understand that, I would think it would be Hillary--after the way she and her husband were treated by the rabid rightwingnuts and their "contract ON America" when Bill was in office.

    Clinton had all the time in the world to prepare for a gracious, party-uniting, exit from the primary race. It's been obvious it was coming for months now--certainly as the superdelegates who were once ALL looking like they would vote for her AGAINST the popular vote started actually paying attention to their constituents and declaring for Obama.

    She needs to face it. He won an uphill battle against her--the deck was stacked in HER favor, not the other way around--and he did it through the kind of gracious diplomacy that got MANY of us excited about what we might see as President again. Not like the last two elections where, frankly, while I worked hard for the eventual nominee, I found it difficult to get fired up for them with their wonky, boring speeches and their out of touch mentalities.

    THIS guy excites people! Young people! Elders! Republicans who are switching parties because they actually believe in his leadership qualities! The pubs who switched for Hillary, by contrast, will all be switching back to McCain for the GE--they just wanted to have her to run against because she will not inspire a crossover/independent vote the way Obama has already proved he does.

    So can we please stop sniffing the hanky for Hillary? She's wonderful. She's a strong woman (I am, too, and I admire her for that). But she's done as a Presidential candidate this time around and if she doesn't get her act together soon, probably for the rest of her life.
