With Jewish voters critical in such swing states as Nevada and Pennsylvania, Republicans hope to exploit a supposed softness in Obama's support for Israel. So far, it's not working.

  • Whatabout Muslim American Voters?

As long as pundits keep slicing and dicing the population, how come nobody is talking about Muslim American Voters. They must be pretty insulted by now with all this anti muslim rhetoric.

Jews don't vote lock step any more than the rest of us do. Stop putting everyone into a box. Obama wants "united" states of America. Besides he has never said he does not support Israel.

As far as I concerened we need to be working on better diplomacy with EVERYONE in the Middle East, not just Israel.

Farrakan? Rev Wright is not tied to him. In fact Christian Liberation theology that Rev. Wright follows was in direct contrast to the Black Muslim movement. It's a real stretch to connect Wright to Farrakan and an ever BIGGER stretch to connect Obama to him.

  • You're wrong

I live in one of the most liberal places in America, the greater San Francisco Bay area. I have no doubt that Sen. Obama will win over my well-meaning, empty-headed neighbors, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. But I have to tell you... I can count on one hand, possibly two hands, the number of couples I know who will be voting Democrat this time around.

For the Jews I know, Obama's problems have less to do with his stance on Iraq or even Israel than his Muslim background (something he takes great pains to hide), his moral equivocation about all matters Middle East, his alleged associations with Hamas supporters, and his near total political naivete. Many of the people I know even said that they voted for Obama in the primaries so that their candidate, Sen. McCain, could beat him in the fall.

In California, Democrats of all stripes will vote for Obama. However, Republican ranks have swelled over the last 8 to 10 years with Jewish voters, especially those with religious backgrounds. It's not because those Jewish communities have really changed at all. It's because they've seen the Democratic party of Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson turn into the party of Carter, a party of elitist boobs with no moral or ethical center. Are the Republicans any better? No, not really. But McCain seems to speak to these people with the kind of gravitas that comes from experience and not arrogant presumption.

  • Nonsense: NONE of my Jewish friends like Obama

The left declared war on Jews since they attacked Joe Lieberman. That was bad news for the Dems, but the way they attacked and offended the Dems best base of all, working women, this time around was even worse.

It's history for Obama. He knows it. The Democrats know it and the Republicans know it. The only ones who can't deal with it are the nut lefty-lefts who once again insisted on shoving a candidate down our throats that has no appeal at all to anyone else except less than 20% of the electorate in concentrated areas.

Way to go. Hope you like McCain's supreme court, lefties.

  • Thank goodness we can ignore the polls,

the evidence and the logic. JPincus knows some people who won't vote for Obama.

  • @jpincus

Another post from a zionist shill that claims to be liberal. If you aren't already a Jonah Goldburg staffer, you have put some points on your resume.

  • jpincus

Oh, get over it. Nobody but frum Jews would consider voting for McCain, and even they can tell what a loser he is.

American Jews aren't one issue voters...and they aren't Republicans, either.

  • obama is white!!!

How can anyone question Jewish support for Obama? Really. As best I understand, you're not really a "Jew" unless you were born of a Jewish MOTHER. So, what's the prob??? Any self respecting Jew must see Obama as what his is, WHITE. I don't understand why were talking about Jewish support, as if there's any doubt. What am I missing? And as best I can tell, I seem to be the only person on earth (so far) to see what should be obvios to anyone with a brain.......even those without.

  • I believe Obama has his work cut out to claim Jewish support

In Florida, it's been noted, much of the Jewish population in the key counties is elderly and that is a demographic that is already a problem for him. I think a lot of his liberal supporters are hoping that he makes changes in our middle east policies and are disappointed to hear him go stalwart on Israel in his attempts to woo the Jewish vote. He, evidently, thinks he's got a problem attracting these votes or he wouldn't be working so hard to overcome it.

  • Is jpincus really Hannity or Rush?

Sounds as if jpincus' rantigs came fomr either Hannity and the FOX the KKK, or from the idiot Rush. jpincus is obviously a wing nut.

  • Why are they called "the" Jews?

Just curious... The article refers to them as Jews. The headline calles them THE Jews.

Is this some hot new band sporting the latest style in hip, emo, klezmer-tinged dreidel-rock?

  • the headline is a play on an expression

"Is ______ good for the Jews?"

Hence the "the." You can plug anything into the blank, that's the joke.

  • All it took was the headline

Talk about getting it backwards. What's next? Are free and fair elections good for Barack Obama? When the hell are some of you going to start asking whether Obama is good for the Jews or any other interest group, for that matter, for this entire country? Jeesus, talk about acute fluffy pillow syndrome. This is getting beyond creepy.

  • Let's pat ourselves on the back

We must have come a long way eradicating anti-Semitism and promoting religious freedom if the only issues the Jewish community cares about is Israel.

I personally think Jews are a lot smarter than that, as even many Israeli Jews disagree with US and Likud party's stand on the Palestinian issue. And I also think Jews do not weigh support for Israel (which all the candidates have expressed) as the sole basis of their vote. More likely it is the fundamentalist Christians that will only accept the most extreme pro-Israel position, and they are not going to vote for Obama anyway.

  • The question alone is insulting

how condescending to "the" jews, as it would be to "the blacks", "the hispanics", or any other group singled out for demographic dissection. All these folk are bright, capable of thinking for themselves, and do not vote as monoliths. Oh, except for rabid NRA evangelicals. Those you can lump. LIterally.
