The U.S. can greatly boost clean wind power for 2 cents a day. Now all we need is a president who won't blow the chance.
  • A Shift in the Wind

Sorry about the pun, but the conservative philosophy of depending on the market has put us in a real bind. All too often the market does not act until a crisis occurs. As a result, we are behind in almost all the alternative technologies being developed today. When Reagan became president, the development of alternative fuels and other things was put into private hands. As a result, other countries have bypassed us in the fields of solar, wind and other sources of power and in alternate forms of transportation. Now we buy our solar panels from Germany, our wind power equipment from Sweden, our high speed rail from various countries. Why?

Corporations were making money with existent technologies and other technologies would not be immediately profitable. The bottom line is still the bottom line and a good idea is still a good idea. We need to create a new mindset that not every immediately profitable thing is a good idea and not every good idea is immediately profitable.
